Marriage Dilema

Just to clarify, the reason why my wife does not like intercourse, is because she is very overweight, and to make intercourse possible, she has to get into an uncomfortable position that can leave her hips painful for days afterward. Unfortunately, this makes the prospect of " entering her at the last minute" unlikely as well.

Thanks for the advise everyone. I have decided to bite the bullet and tell her, I just don’t know how I’m going to bring up the topic. I will also be telling her that I am against IVF which will not go down well, as the doctors have told her it ay be her only chance to conceive. But the way I see it, everything is possible with God, you need look no further than the mother of John the Baptist, she was considered barren, and past the age of childbirth as well, yet the Lord saw fit to bless her with the honour of giving birth to a great Prophet. So I will pray that the Lord may bless my wife with a child as well. Thank you again for your advice.

First of all you needn’t worry about causing problems in your relationship.
You already HAVE problems in your relationship.

Were you married in the Catholic Church?
That’s a primary issue in determining what you might do next.
We were married in a Church of England Church, but I received permission from the Catholic Church to marry there.

Hey Phil, it’s Phil.

Why is IVF her only option? How old is she? Has she tried to lose weight? Are you yourself overweight as well?

Hi Phil, IVF is not her only option. It just may be. I am overweight myself, but the problem with her fertility stems from a medical condition she was diagnosed with at age 15.

Things are going ok now to be honest, I had a frank conversation, and she was very upset at first, but she is trying to accomodate my beliefs now, as long as I consent to a fertility test. I know that involves masturbating into a cup, but I would rather do that once than to ruin my marriage, because it was made plain that if I wasn’t prepared to do that then she would leave.

I have arranged a meeting with my Parish Priest next week, so I can talk this through with him and give him my confession. I will feel heaps better once I have had a chance to discuss this with him.

Thanks everyone for your advice and encouragement.

Phil.
