Point of fact.

I, Sister Amy, cannot prove to anyone here, anyone anywhere, that the Qur’an is the word of God. I can’t convince you. I’m not trying to convince you. I just wanted to say that up front.

But I do BELIEVE that the Qur’an is a miracle. You could say that I am convinced of it. But not because any man convinced me, rather just because I read it and believed it.

One miraculous feature of the Qur’an is the verses about iron. Only recently have scientists declared that most of the iron on earth actually came from collisions with asteroids. This is not something that could be known by Muhammad or in his time, but yet the Qur’an says that iron was sent down from the skies.

Please quote your source on this, i have to disagree since im currently studying science myself. Although it can be found in meteorites, a majority is found in the earth’s crust. When the earth first existed, it would have been combined by many elements from other things from space. Iron is just one of the many elements, so basically he could have named anything, sand etc, it is found ‘out there’.
What is a miracle, however, is the image in Guadalupe, the image had no natural, animal or mineral colourings. Keep in mind this happened in 1531 where the invention of synthetic colouring was not yet conceived.

Another miraculous feature of the Qur’an is the knowledge of stories in the Bible, despite no Arabic Bible being available to Muhammad, despite the fact he was illiterate and not learned in religion at all. In fact, rather than copying the stories as some have alleged, there are slight changes–why? Corrections.

How do you know he really was illiterate? How do you know he didnt learn about the bible? He might have ‘claimed’ these things, but we dont know if they really are true or not now do we?
When Jesus performed miracles, healed the sick, spread the teachings of God and most of all died on the cross for us, he did this in front of a LOT of witnesses and he truly displayed who he was, the Son of God.
Im sorry, but a man who claims that God delivered an entire book of rules and disclosed it to him alone, rewrite EVERYTHING God’s Son had delivered to us and claim its the truth by his word alone, im sorry, thats not very convincing.

Another miraculous feature of the Qur’an is the knowledge of stories which did NOT appear in the Bible, such as the birth of Mary, or some prophets which aren’t even mentioned in Biblical or Jewish traditions.

Ive read lord of the rings, chronicles of narnia, good fantasy stories. I was even going to read Andrew Morton’s book on Princess Diana, but i knew better. One mans view on the life of someone. How would he know her better than her family? A lot that was in that book was untrue as well, but yet he claimed a lot of it was true, and yet, he probably did manage to convince people… sound familiar?

Another miraculous feature of the Qur’an is that when the Jews came to Muhammad asking him three questions, to prove that he was a true prophet, a chapter of the Qur’an was revealed to answer them in detail, although there was no possible way Muhammad could have known those stories (they do not appear in the Bible.)

Another miraculous feature is that Muhammad was illiterate, and yet he is the Messenger–there is no possible way for him to have authored such a long and comprehensive book, covering such a variety of subjects. He couldn’t ever write it down to edit it, and yet even as he recited it to the people, it was so powerful that none of them ever so much as suggested a correction, even if they refused to believe in it!

Doesnt take long to learn and read and write, and yet, again, how do we know he really was illiterate?

Another miraculous feature is how the people of Mecca were made to prostrate at listening to the recitation of the Qur’an, even if they didn’t believe.

Yes, but how were they made too…

And how the Jews admitted that Muhammad was a prophet but they refused to accept him and chose to fight him instead! And how the people of Mecca admitted he was a prophet but they were jealous the revelation came to him and not them so they refused the religion!

Never heard the Jews admit that one… but ive not researched that for myself, must put that on my to do list…

Though like I said, I can’t convince you. You MUST examine it yourself and decide for yourself. But unless you read it, and sincerely read it, not a piece here and there–unless you read it, you’re not equipped to make that decision.

Why are some posters so determined to derail it to attack Muhammad?

Because there is only one thought of muslims on Mary. I wrote it previously - they use her in this way to prove and repeat that Jesus was not of God, but of a human being with a father who is unkown - “Jesus the Son of Mary”.

Other than that they are more concerned with jihad - basically converting, killing or subjugating us infidels.

The imams primary duty is to preach jihad, issue fatwas, and make sure to throw in how we resemble pigs and monkeys. Many are implants from saudi’s wahabbi schools of thought. There might be a handful that are actually peaceful - but if they are following the koran that is very hard to do.

So, I divert off of Mary again. If muslims were so concerned about Mary, or Christians, Jews and Zorastrians, they #1. wouldn’t have wiped out all the Zorastrians from the Middle East, #2. wouldn’t be trying to instill hatred and discontent against the Jews, lobbing bombs into Israel daily and calling them and making cartoons of them depicting them as pigs and monkeys, and lastly #3. they do the same thing to Christians and are also actively slaugtering them around this globe. I won’t include their murder against the Hindus and Buddhists in this thread since they are not ‘of the book’ (the Bible) and are treated even worse. (what is worse than what they do to Christians and Jews? well, they don’t give them the option of subjugation - they only get death or conversion to islam as an option to live).

His kind of argument would be good for small children, but we know better. Sorry to say that, but we know better.

By the same token, if I sincerely do not believe 100% that the Quran is from God, then by the logic of his argument, it it not from God. So I guess that’s settle it.

Zaynab bint Jahsh was a widow when she married Zayd bin Harithah at Muhammad’s suggestion. The marriage was very unhappy, though. Notice–it was Muhammad who suggested the match, and Zayd was unhappy (as was Zaynab.) So Zayd divorced her. It was only then that Muhammad married her, and in so doing proved that it was permissible for a man to marry a woman who had been married to his adopted son. You see, it is NOT permissible for a man to marry a woman who has been married to his son. But adoption is not equivalent to a blood relation in this sense, and the marriage was proof of that, and also an honor for Zaynab.

Actually, this is not true. mohammed basically made up a surah so he could get her from his stepson. The stepson quiesced in order not to disobey allah. Basically mohammed lusted after another’s wife and he got her through his ‘status’ as a ‘prophet’.

I do believe I have figured you out, sister mary. You are a muslim, practicing taqiyya.

You actually think that you can come on these threads and smooth over islam to us Catholics which is some more taqiyya.

Your defense of the indefensible is as only a muslim will do because I cannot believe that anyone else would do so without figuring out that all this violence against non-muslims hasn’t been noticed.

I find it ironic that Muslims accept that Jesus was created in the womb of Mary with no human father involved but have no explination as to WHY this was done. We Christians say it is because he is the Son of God and in fact GOd incarnate.

I do not understand Arabic. Is there any hope for someone like me then? To me the verses written are said by a narrator thus contradicting the claim that they are written verbatim words of God.

Since I don’t believe they are words of God by the style they were written, I therefore do not wish to pursue it any further. So is there any hope for a person like me?

Rueben, don’t go studying it as if it were anything good for the soul. Study it to know their tactics against us. It is a book of tactics. It tells them to lie to us to smooth over islam. It tells them to wage jihad against us because we are going to hades because we don’t believe in their moon god, allah. It tells them that shirk is worse than killing, or basically doing anything, to infidels.

mohammed was a pagan who fashioned islam after his religion of his day. The rites and ceremonies of islam are fashioned after that same religion and allah was the supreme god over other lesser gods. He figured it would be better to make allah the only god after consulting with some of his companions so he did. He almost threw in three godesses but ended out not doing that.

mohammed would make up surahs to fit his needs as time went on. For example the surah that said it was ok for him to take his stepson’s wife. He lusted after her and so he had to make something up so he could have her.

He quite often forgot what he said previously and then said something to counter it the next day and that is why muslims believe that the newer passages replace the older passages. The Medina surahs (the newer passages - the violent passages) replaced the older Meccan surahs (the older - more peaceful passages). An example of the newer, violent passages are surahs 8, and 9.

Muslims believe Jesus had NO father, and the Qur’an is justification for this belief. Mary asks Gabriel, as reported in the Qur’an, “How shall I have a son, seeing that no man has touched me, and I am not unchaste?” See Qur’an 19:20

I am sorry that the words of God in Genesis irk you. It is what he said. “It is not good for man to be alone.” In Christianity, your main purpose is to love God, serve God, and parise God in this life so that you may do the same in the next.

To your second point, what was the purpose of the sign? A sign indicates something. Also, God does not perform pointless miracles. What was the reason for this one?
