The wedding at Cana is a perfect example how Mary intercedes for us? Jesus was not ready for He said, “Woman, how does your concern affect me? My hour has not yet come.” He was not ready to help people, but with his mother stepping in He did help them. She does hear us and she does help.

I am well aware of your beliefs. I am commenting on your false dichotomy between the Catholic Church and individual Catholics. I could be more politically correct and always write Catholic Church,* but I think anyone moving an ounce of grey matter in their brains can figure out what I mean.*

Well, ok… I won’t be responding to your posts anymore… have a good day! 😃

“At the end of a wedding, the minister announces that the couple has become man and wife. They exchanged vows, and so they are married—without having consummated the marriage yet. When the marriage is consummated, the marriage—which was already valid—becomes indissoluble. So Joseph and Mary’s marriage was a real marriage, even if it was never consummated.”
That is in TODAY’S culture. I think we can all agree that the way things were done back then was quite different when it came to a cultural standpoint on marriage. I will try to find the links to what I described earlier… it’s been a while since I looked for them.

I wanted to ask you, singinbeauty, do you believe that angels can hear you?
When they are here on earth… yes. But I don’t believe that they are bothered with us while serving God in Heaven. These beings are those that God sends to us in times of need just as He keeps the Holy Spirit with us to help when triumphs and tribulation arise. Now, I have not done much research into Angels and their roles when it comes to us so I can be wrong… This is just my opinion.

So you think that a 2000 year old Church (institued by Christ no less), with all it councils, and even codifying the Bible, may have just missed that? I don’t think so. I can state the Sacred Scriptures, the early Church Fathers, encyclicals, and councils throughout all of history that point to (if not outright state) Mary’s perpetual virginity. That’s A LOT of evidence! It is not my desire to argue with you - in fact I would love nothing more than for you to see the beautiful Truth in its fullness - so if my attitude comes off harsh, please forgive me, a sinner, and give the evidence a second, prayerful look.

Peace of Christ.

This is a parable. Meant to teach them of the separation and the consequences of our actions here on earth. This did not really happen. This story was set after the resurrection. This is the interpretation I have come to…
Nice try, sister!
If the parable of the rich man and Lazarus is set AFTER the resurrection, as you say, why, then did the rich man ask if he could warn his brothers so that they wouldn’t suffer the same fate? Why did Abraham tell him that they have the “Moses and the prophets”?
Hmmmmmmmmm???
Hey, your name isn’t MarineBoy, is it???

"Ignorance of the scriptures is ignorance of Christ" - St. Jerome

At the end of the period of separation the groom would come to take his bride to live with him. The taking of the bride usually took place at night. The groom, best man and other male escorts would leave the groom’s father’s house and conduct a torch light procession to the home of the bride.9 Although the bride was expecting her groom to come for her, she did not know the exact time of his coming.10 As a result the groom’s arrival would be preceded by a shout.11 This shout would forewarn the bride to be prepared for the coming of the groom.
After the groom received his bride together with her female attendants, the enlarged wedding party would return from the bride’s home to the groom’s father’s house.12 Upon arrival there the wedding party would find that the wedding guests had assembled already.
Shortly after arrival the bride and groom would be escorted by the other members of the wedding party to the bridal chamber (huppah). Prior to entering the chamber the bride remained veiled so that no one could see her face.13 While the groomsmen and bridesmaids would wait outside, the bride and groom would enter the bridal chamber alone. There in the privacy of that place they would enter into physical union for the first time.14
After the marriage was consummated, the groom would announce the consummation to the other members of the wedding party waiting outside the chamber (John 3:29). These people would pass on the news of the marital union to the wedding guests.15 Upon receiving this good news the wedding guests would feast and make merry for the next seven days.16
During the seven days of the wedding festivities, which were sometimes called “the seven days of the huppah,” the bride remained hidden in the bridal chamber.17 At the conclusion of these seven days the groom would bring his bride out of the bridal chamber, now with her veil removed, so that all could see who his bride was.
This was jewish custom and there is nothing in the bible to say otherwise when it comes to Mary and Joseph.

Elvis – who do you think you’re talking to here? Singin’ has come on board with perfectly reasonable questions and fairly common assumptions, and has posed them with courtesy and decency. Now, be a good boy and say you’re sorry. :tsktsk:

Thank you mercygate… I just wasn’t going to respond. People like that turn me off and I choose to ignore them… But thank you, I was hoping that that was the way I was coming off! 🙂

Errr, there is nothing in the bible to suggest that the ceremony you describe exists. What you say proves nothing.

did you read about the Protoevangelium of James at Mary: Ever Virgin

Can you refute that there were any other type of marriages besides the one you describe?

Wisdom indeed, simply not to respond. I, too, do not react to such stuff when it is directed at me (which, of course, it *never *is because I am such a model of peace and decency . . ). Anyway, the kind of posts Elvis put up is agin’ the rules!

Never mind. Sister Mercygate hasn’t rapped any knuckles in a while, and it felt good to have the ruler back in my hand.

(OK I was never hit by a nun in my life, nor did I ever see anybody else smacked by a nun – but it was too good an stereotype to let pass on a Catholic forum!)

SINGINBEAUTY, I read your definition of the Trinity and wow you are way off. Its is GOD the Father, God the SON(Jesus) and God the Holy Spirit. It is not three representing One, it is One (GOD) Being in three persons.

On my way:

And that is the way it has been represented to you. But not to me. To me YOU are way off. Please give me BIBLICAL references to this. Thank you! 🙂

What are your biblical references for the Trinity? I have a hard time coming up with the idea of the Trinity from the Bible alone.

I think that fundamentalism and Catholicism are pretty much in agreement about the nature of the Trinity as One God in three persons. God the Father, God the Son, God the Holy Spirit. Perhaps you’re just using different terms to describe the same thing?

Ok, well let me ask you this question…

While Jesus was here on earth who was He speaking to in His prayer before He was crucified? Was Heaven divoid of God while Jesus walked this earth? How about now… I mean we still have the Holy Spirit here… Why do we call it the Holy Spirit and not God if it is Him.

Hi SingingBeauty,

Welcome to the forums. You have been exceedingly gracious in your discussions so far, even when it may have been a temptation to get frustrated. I commend you for that! Thank you. 👍

I re-read your idea on the Trinity, and I don’t think it is too far off from the way most mainline Christians understand it. I agree with Robert that you may be just expressing it in different terms. As he said: 3 persons in 1 nature. Although the words “person” and “nature” have percise theological and philosophical definitions, the shorthand conveys the idea accurately. So, perhaps by “from the same country” you mean that country of the Godhead – Divine Nature (and only Three Persons are “from” that country.)

The Trinity is a mystery, beyond our comprehension. That doesn’t mean that we can’t say anything about it, or are unable to say anything about its nature, just that we can’t fully understand it. C.S. Lewis supposedly remarked that “trying to understand the Trinity is like trying to bite a wall.”

I’m glad you are on this forum and asking these questions. I hope that you continue to do so!

God Bless
VC

The doctrine of the Trinity is encapsulated in Matthew 28:19, where Jesus instructs the apostles: “Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name (singular- not names) of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.”

In this passage the Father, the Son, and the Spirit are said to share one name, and that name is almost certainly Yahweh, the personal name of God in the Bible. We know this because the name Yahweh is applied to both the Father and the Son in the New Testament (cf. the Old Testament parallels to citations such as Acts 2:30–36 with Ps. 110:1 and Phil. 2:10–11 with Isa. 45:19–24).

Jesus himself declares that he is Yahweh (“I AM”). In John 8:58, when quizzed about how he has special knowledge of Abraham, Jesus replies, “Truly, truly, I say to you, before Abraham was, I AM.” His audience understood exactly what he was claiming about himself. “So they took up stones to throw at him; but Jesus hid himself and went out of the temple” (John 8:59).

The parallelism of the Father, the Son, and the Spirit is not unique to Matthew’s Gospel; it appears elsewhere in the New Testament (e.g., 2 Cor. 13:14, Heb. 9:14), as well as in the writings of the earliest Christians, who clearly understood these verses in the sense that we do today—that the Father, the Son, and the Spirit are three divine Persons who are one divine Being (God).

This is a mystery. There are some things that are of God that are not fully comprehensible to the human mind.

Then you misunderstand the mistery of the Trinity (we all do to different extents however), but you are borderline starting to sound like you believe in polytheism and not monotheism…is that what you are trying to say?
