Roy exposes the whole problem with his faulty view of the priesthood. NOBODY is “worthy.” The fact that God calls certain men to this unique sacrament and ministry doesn’t change that. If he thinks the priesthood is some sort of mark of spiritual ‘worthiness’ then no wonder he got so proud.

Oh no, the media will cover it, but all the coverage will have roughly this tone : “Vatican attempts to silence priest speaking in favor of woman’s equality;” or “Pope strips priest of rank for supporting women,” or maybe even “Priest excommunicated for speaking in favor of woman’s ordination.”
It will all have that typical drawl to it; hateful, spiteful, deriding and completely biased.
Good for the Bishops though, it’s time we cleaned house and got back to focusing on the Truth.

Made the mistake of reading the comments on the article and started thinking “what the… oh wait, this is on NCR no wonder so many are praising him.” 
While it is always sad to hear of a priest being laicized or excommunicated no one can say it should be unexpected. When clergy continuously speak against the teachings of the Church there can be no other solution but what was done. To allow him to remain would have been silent ascent that the church would allow attacks from the inside.

It is sad that he is unrepentant but Good News that the Maryknoll order is showing some orthodoxy. We should pray for them to return to their original charism.

^^ This. I’m not sure that something like this will make it to the media (I don’t see much coverage of Church inter-conflict on the news), but if it *does *it will most certainly have a “war on women” spin to it.

We should pray for ALL orders to return to their original charism. Dozens of orders have abandoned those charisms, to the detriment of the entire Body of Christ.

Yes, the religious orders have certainly not been immune to infection by the plague of heterodoxy masquerading as “modernism” and “progressivism.”
Parenthetically one place I know I won’t ever hear support for the abortionist, same sex “marriage” loving politicians, female priests or marryin’ clergy is among the Opus Dei membership and cooperators. That’s why I love, love, love my monthly EOR’s!:dancing:

Yeah, and there was that other male priest who worked with at least one ordained female priest. The pope fought with him, and yet he remained defiant even in the face of officials sent by the pope himself. He called the pope himself a hypocrite. He went on teaching, even after the throw-down with the pope and what seems to have been an ecumenical council in which all the bishops of the Church agreed to speak with one voice.
That female priest, by the way, was named Junia. The male priest mentions her among in people he greets in one of his grandest theological works. He calls her out in explicitly, in absolutely certain terms, as a woman, who is an apostle, the predecessors to the bishops of the modern Church.
The male priest working with the female apostle was named Paul. The theological work in which he describes Junia is called the Letter to the Romans in chapter 16, verse 7. There is no serious biblical scholar who claims that Junia is a male name. There is no way to dismiss the fact that she was a woman.
There are other less direct signs of female bishops in the Bible, including the recipient of the Second Epistle of John, which begins: “The Presbyter to the chosen Lady and to her children whom I love in truth.” Other translations call her the “elect Lady.” The Greek apparently could be the proper name name “Kyria,” which is a woman’s name. The author of the Epistle ends the letter with the line, “[t]he children of your chosen sister send you greetings.” There’s no proof that this lady/Kyria was in fact a woman in authority over a congregation, but there’s as much evidence to support that interpretation as there is to support the alternative interpretation that “the elect lady” was just a metaphor for a congregation.
The claims that the clergy have always been men is simply back-casting of theology that was developed later.

You have to keep in mind that the priesthood was once a privileged class in Europe (especially the bishops). Moreover, many of the arguments used to bar women from professions like medicine or the law in medieval times (that women were too emotional, stupid, delicate, sinful, etc.) were also used to justify barring them from the priesthood.
So the Catholic Church’s credibility is compromised when it says that barring women from the priesthood has nothing to do with valuing or respecting men more.

Well…he took a vow and then broke it. Most people find that distasteful. A man makes a vow to forsake all others when he gets married. Most of society frowns on him taking a mistress.
It’s upholding the “company line.” If you work for Coca-Cola, don’t be coming out in public saying you think Pepsi tastes better than Coke and 7-up beats Sprite hands-down. You’ll likely get fired, and nobody’s going to feel too much sympathy either. They’ll just think, “He should have kept his mouth shut.”
