April, you must also realise that as Catholics we do not consider ourselves Children of the BOOK. We are Children of the WORD INCARNATE - that is, we rely upon Holy Scripture (complete - not bifurcated for political purposes) and Tradition.

Remember, Jesus did not walk around with a printing press and the Bible did not fall out of the sky fully formed. In fact, Christianity existed for almost 300 years without a formal Bible.

Reid is correct - you do not have to save any Catholic. And I would not advise learning about the Holy Mother Church from fallen-away Catholics. Most of them don’t know what they left and blame being Catholic for their own shortcomings - I know that from personal experience.

Hello Diana,
How do you do mamn? This is possibly for another thread or maybe there’s already been a thread about this. But if the Catholic Church originally put together or formed the Bible then, how come there’s a Catholic Bible and a regular NIV? Oh another thing, if the Bible was formed by Catholics, how come so many of the Caholic Traditions arent in the Bible? Sorry if you couldnt tell I’m pretty attatched to my Bible.
Sorry, I’m just now getting back to you on this. I’ve been really busy!

April, there are no Traditions (capital T) that are not either explicitly or implicitly in the bible. Traditions (capital T) are direct teachings of Jesus and the Apostles such as the Eucharist, no women in the priesthood, the Sacraments, the divinity of Christ, etc. The Church has no authority to change these things. traditions (small t) are better known as disciplines and can be changed depending on the norms of the day such as holy days of obiligations, fasting, women covering or not covering their heads at Mass, prieslty celibacy, etc.

Someone did start another thread on the bible because of this thread and many people have answered your questions concerning the bible - including me! Go there for some great answers and information. I didn’t check the name of the thread before I posted this but look for a recent one strated by MonicaC on the subjuect of the bible.

See ya there!

April,

I grew up Southern Baptist and just this past year I discovered the truth in the Catholic Church, I pray that you will continue to learn more about the Church and our traditions.

I know why you are here and I know that you are offended with some of our traditions and teachings. I encourage you to take it slow and pray that God will reveal the truth for you. This will be very hard for you but you need to stop trying to “save us” and continue to grow in your faith with Jesus Christ.

The Catholic Church is the only Church that has continued to look back at the history and learn from it, tested science, philosphy and reason. Unlike your Church that follows one preacher or at some point founder of your particular denomination, the Catholics were founded by Christ in flesh and He promised the gates of hell will not prevail against it.

I am sure you go to a very good Christian church, but you need to stop judging our faith and beliefs and you need to make sure that you know why in your heart that you believe in what you do, I hope and pray that you will continue to grow as a Christian.

And if you believe that all you have to do is accept Jesus into your heart and ask for forgiveness of your sins and you are onced saved always saved then why does he tell us in the bible that the road to heaven is not an easy one and the gates are narrow?

Pardon?
No sir or mamn, I am not offended by the traditions of the Catholic Church. I just dont understand the logic behind a lot of them. But its beginning to become not so foggy. Atleast regarding Mary and Catholic Tradition. Another thing, I cant save you. Sorry but that job’s been filled.
By the way I’m a Baptist, but not a Southern Baptist. ( I like dancing ;)) My church is a different story. I do know in my heart why I believe what I do. Thats because all of my beliefs can be found in the Bible.
I’m not condemning Catholics to Hell because majority of the Catholic Traditions arent in the Bible (another forum). I have no desire to do so nor is that my place. I fully respect Catholics. The one of the ones I know is the best repensentation of Christ I’ve come across in person.
Your last argument. I suggest you read the following verses John 3:16 and 17, Ephesians 2:8-9, Romans 3:21-26, Romans 5:12-21, Romans 11:6, 2 Corinthians12:9, Ephesians 2:5, Titus 2:11. The Bible is God’s direct word to us. It is more preciouse than anything in or of this world. Because the Bible holds the truth. Regarding your question. I believe your referring to Mathew 7:13. This means there is only one way to live eternally with Godand only a few decide to walk that road. Believing in Jesus is the only way to heaven, because He alone died for our sins and made us right before God. His way is the only way to get to heaven. JOhn 14:6 " I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father but through me." This IS the good news, the Gospel. How could you disregard it? But this is definately for another forum.
