That’s correct. I was answering his hypothetical and asking about the other parts of the bill (with mandate removed).

I did miss the timeframe of the employer fee…it’s $295/year - peanuts! For a 20-hour per week employee, they’d be looking at <30 cents per hour. Big whoop! Just delay raises accordingly, if necessary.

Now, what they don’t detail what constitutes “not offering health insurance.” As I mentioned, the amount subsidized by the employer varies wildly. My wife has worked for companies that pay 100% for the employee. Coverage through her company costs us $60/month for the whole family. If we used my company’s plan, it would be nearly $300/month.

I do have a problem with the mandatory insurance provision. That’s ridiculous.

What Koda was referring to was a hypothetical situation. The actual bill does require individuals who have a family income of greater than $48,000 to purchase their own health insurance or pay a fine that starts at $1000/year.

You are correct on the portion regarding private businesses.

Yeah, thats my problem with it too. I can’t stand it when the Elite’s think they know whats best for everybody. How would they like it if I got a law passed requiring that all non-felons over 21 had to carry a loaded firearm? Its the same kind of thing, just from the opposite end of the political spectrum. They think its dangerous to not have health insurance, and I think its dangerous to not carry a gun. 😃

Looks like someone else thinks it will be bad for business:

Romney’s Health Plan Will Harm Business

The Massachusetts legislature has approved a bill, backed by Gov. Mitt Romney, that will provide all residents with health insurance – a bill that critics say will hurt small businesses and lead to outsourcing.

The plan would use a combination of financial incentives and penalties to expand access to health care to the state’s estimated 500,000 uninsured.
