Shhhhhhh, Detroit and Chicago are wonderful places. Canada would be delighted to have them…
Not so sure about Detroit, but Chicago, yes. Almost as exciting as NYC, and in some ways, it offers more!

When I take the train to NYC rather than fly, there’s a layover in Chicago. I use that time to visit museums, Navy Pier, the ethnic restaurants in the city, and more. The horrid part about Chicago is the dreadful rush hour traffic and the winter cold. Being on the Lake is no help. NYC, on the ocean, is warmer - the record low is 6 below, and that’s a trifle in Chitown. 😃

Enough off topic!!!

So anyway, back to the topic at hand: Praying daily with my daughters for the victims and their families.

I don’t believe any amount of “gun control” would have stopped this from happening. It appears the perpetrator isn’t quite right, and would have found another means.

19 men killed 3,000 with boxcutters on 9/11

Timothy Mcveigh killed 168 with fertilizer.

And our most deadly school attack that killed 44 and injured an additional 58 was also from a bombing.

Determined people will still find a way to kill, regardless of the laws involved.

True, but that doesn’t mean that we don’t need laws regarding killing. The presence of a law is enough to deter at least some who would do evil.

Norway has some of the strickest gun laws in the “free” world. They are also home to the largest mass shooting in history.

The same could be said of this incident.

I’ve seen quotes in other forums:

“80 million legal gun owners didn’t shoot anyone today”.
Actually closer to 100 million.

If guns cause crime all of mine are defective.

It has, at least, detered me from murdering some people, so it is working.
Great. So why does the country need more laws making murder a crime?

How would you go about banning anything and everything that was ever used to murder someone? Or is it just guns you are after?

Not quite.

Switzerland issues nearly all adult males of military age an assault rifle (and some hand guns) and trains them to use them.

Adult females “get” to volunteer.
Still, it drives home the point, “An armed society is a polite society.”

Simplistic.

Swiss males who have completed their military training are required to keep their army-issued weapons - a rifle for EMs and a 9mm pistol for officers. These are to be kept at home.

To carry firearms in public or outdoors, those individuals must have a permit - which in most cases are issued only to private citizens working in occupations such as security.

Switzerland is not the model for what American gun lovers would like to see in this country.

Profound, though off topic. 🙂

Not what I’ve read:

Conditions for getting a Carrying PermitThere are three conditions:

fulfilling the conditions for buying a permit
stating plausibly the need to carry firearms to protect oneself, other people, or real property from a specified danger
passing an examination proving both weapon handling skills and knowledge regarding lawful use of the weapon
