The morally relativistic tripe we hear from the left about the Founding Fathers is ridiculous. If you sinned, you have no right to claim being a role model in any regard, apparently.

Peter denied Jesus. Became St. Peter.

Augustine lived a sexually impure life. Became St. Augustine.

Thomas doubted the Resurrection. Became St. Thomas. And had a sweet resort island named after him to boot…

Havings flaws does not disqualify you from being quite erudite or wise in other areas. This sort of comment only serves to tear diwn America, make you feel better about your own failings, and equivocate on all sins.

And for the love of all that is holy and pure, and also choclate eclairs, stop comparing slavery during a time when it was acceptable in society to killing children in the womb, something that has never been acceptable anywhere.

In Colorado, there is not a registration of handguns, rifles and shotguns. There is no licensing of owners of rifles, handguns, and shotguns. There is no permit needed to purchase a rifle, shotgun, or handgun

Why pass more regulations when the current regulations aren’t being enforced? Regardless, the executive branch of the state is under no obligation to enforce the laws anyway, so what good are more laws?

The popular idea of a crazed gunman shooting randomly is a myth; victim selection is not random, and statements from many spree survivors describe how something about them, their looks, their history with the killer, or even how they pleaded for their life was able to make the killer’s attention shift from them.

From what I understand, praying for the shooter as well as the victims is completely in line with the spirit of Christianity. Jesus told us to pray for our enemies. I think this is one of Christ’s teachings that we forget. Remember that St. Therese prayed for the conversion of a convicted murderer and God granted her request by giving her a sign of his conversion. Right now our focus should be on supporting the victims through our prayers and offering prayers for the shooter such as this one, not placing blame on this policy or that.

But has no one else heard about five apartment buildings having to be evacuated because Holmes’ apartment appears to be filled with explosives and booby traps? This goes far beyond guns – this man, if the unknown devices actually are bombs, intended to kill law enforcement officers and his neighbors after he was killed or arrested. This evening dozens of families are out of their homes with nothing but the clothes on their backs.

I’m just overwhelmed by the intensity of evil that apparently consumed this man. And yet, he surrendered peacefully and told police that his apartment was booby trapped. Then later he stopped cooperating with police and asked for a lawyer.

A lawyer? Really? 200 witnesses, a car and an apartment filled with weapons and perhaps bombs – and he wants a lawyer to, what, help him claim his innocence?

Don’t know why I’m expecting this all to make sense 🤷

Meanwhile, our new Archbishop Aquila offered his first public mass since his installation Wednesday this evening at Queen of Peace parish in Aurora, for all those impacted by this tragedy. The archdiocesan website has links for help for victims from the archdiocese.

What a slice of hell, and a response of heaven.

Oh, and forgive me, but good is already coming out of this tragedy: all negative campaign ads have been suspended until Tuesday in Colorado. Wow, that should help. Give those candidates a medal :rolleyes:

Yes, a lawyer. Every person has the right to a fair and speedy trial and is presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
 
I believe in sensible gun control laws but neither side is touching this issue. It’s “policially incorrect” at the moment.

Clinton was the last President who did- and I applauded him for it but no federal politician is touching this.

Of course not. If you’re watching this news from 100s or 1000s of miles away, well, it might seem like something commendable. But really, in the midst of wondering whether any of my friends, family, or colleagues might have been injured or killed – and just aching for the pains of those families involved – announcing this decision on the news in the midst of this horror just seems stupid. If they want to do the right thing, thanks be to God! But really, let’s not use the gesture as yet another way to garner votes – “see how great we are? we pulled our ads FIRST!”

Also, please note that I posted that message at nearly midnight – not much patience with turning a horrific tragedy into a political grab less than 24 hours after the event.

Done. Gotta get back to life and my son’s needs – Cub Scouts this morning. No guns. Just games.

Yeah, I am clear on that, thank you. I’m not advocating trashing the Constitution.

I’m just venting my frustration as dozens upon dozens of families are in mourning, or sitting in hospitals praying, or displaced from their homes because of this man’s actions – and now he decides to stop cooperating with police.

Please try to discern the difference between just honest venting of deep frustration and actual advocating for destruction of the laws that (at least in theory) sustain our freedoms.

If he was the son of a murderer or brought is a nasty environment, but no: he was a churchgoer. Again with so many situations like this, I ask: Why? Was this pure evil? Mental disorder? Physical deficiency? Social disorder?
 
I’ll go with mental disorder, but obviously not the kind of mental disorder that would interfere with his inability to plan; this was one thoroughly thought-out crime.
