The church’s top leader has not been truthful, said the Rev. James Scahill of St. Michael’s Parish, violating an important tenet of the faith. His strongly worded sermon echoed sentiments he shared with parishioners several weeks ago, but this time, he spent more time and spoke with greater conviction on the controversial subject…
And so it begins as we turn on one another…

:nope::crossrc:

For our holy father:

Our Father who art in heaven,
hallowed be thy name.
Thy kingdom come.
Thy will be done
on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread,
and forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those who trespass against us,
and lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil.
Code:
                            -- Amen--
Truly a sad day.

:signofcross:
:crossrc:
St Michael the Archangel, defend us in this day of battle.
Be our safeguard against the wickedness and snares of the Devil.
May God rebuke him, we humbly pray.
And do thou, of prince of the Heavenly Host,
by the power of God,
cast into Hell, Satan and all the evil spirits
who prowl the earth seeking the ruin of souls.
Amen
:signofcross:

How can you dismiss as “anti-Catholic bilge” a homily by a Cathlic priest? You may disagree with the priest, but are you denying that he is a priest? Are you saying that his bishop is to be faulted for ordaining a anti-Catholic to the presbyterate?

I think, (and PLEASE correct me if I’m wrong) that Massachusetts priests signed a letter of no confidence in the leadership of Cardinal Law. Maybe it’s the water? 😉

Just a couple of quick notes:

#1 It is not our place to ask The Holy Father too “step down”. God has put him into that position and only God can remove him. Period, priest or not, those that do not believe this are not truely Catholic and need to go and join the rest of the fallen away churches.

#2 Rejoice! Christ told us that there would be attacks against His Church and His People. This may not be easy, but it does not come as a shock. But remember, not even the gates of hell will NOT prevail against the Church founded by Jesus Christ–THE ONE TRUE CHURCH, THE CATHOLIC CHRUCH!!!

MAY GOD BLESS OUR POPE!!!

NOT JUST STRONG…CATHOLIC STRONG!!!

Probably in the same way that you could describe the utterances of Fr. H Kung and a heap of others who have gone off the rails to a greater or lesser extent.

No ones denying that hes a validly ordained priest.
Peter didn`t deny that Judas was a validly consecrated bishop. (See Acts 1:16-20.)

It is not “un-Catholic” to suggest that a pope step down. It is not a heresy. Several people thought JP II should step down for health reasons near the end of his life. That didn’t make them ‘bad-Cathoics.’

Remember, in the most old-fashioned / conservative / traditional sense of the word, it remains for the hierarchy to determine whether one has broken faith with the Church. It is not a call that laypeople are permitted to make, however often multitudes of them do!

Annnnd???

In a sick and festering world that is in its death throes, when even ‘the Church’ gluts itself on attacking Christ’s Vicar on Earth, I know whose side I’m on.

😛 Let’s look at this sentence. According to the way this is written, the author is calling out Rev. Scahill and accusing him of violating an important tenant of faith for calling the Pope untruthful. While that is accurate, I doubt it is what the author (who may actually fancy him/herself a journalist) meant to say. 😛 This is the third one of these I have caught just this morning. You can’t make this stuff up, folks.

Yes, Fr. Scahill is violating an important tenant of faith. He is committing the sin of calumny, doing it publically and in such a way as to sow dissent among the very flock he is supposed to be protecting. I hope his Bishop takes swift action. He may need some “time out”.

No, the Pope was elected to his position by men - the College of Cardinals, to be specific.

It is un-Catholic in the sense of it not being Catholic. It’s not heresy but it is a renounciation of the need to obey canon law - and that’s generally not what priests are supposed to do. I suggest you take a look at a recent thread “Can we fire the Pope?” especially post #57. JReducation is one of the most reliable sources here on CAF on how the Church “works”.

Even if a Pope were to step down, a) it would have to be voluntary - not under pressure by noisy groups of laypeople or the press and b) it wouldn’t result in a new Pope - only a vacant chair.

That might be good for some people who are looking for a big public show of remorse or someone to fall on his sword. However, it would be bad for the Church. Although there are processes in place to keep the day-to-day activities going there wouldn’t be another conclave to elect a successor until the Pope died (if I am understanding correctly). The chair of Peter would simply be vacant as it is after a Pope dies but for a forseeably much longer period.

Don’t they act through the holy spirit though? (I’m no expert-just asking!)
Yes. And the Holy Spirit continues to protect and guide the Pope in any teachings on faith and morals. I think that’s listed under benefits 😉

If this is indeed the way it would work, this would be beyond damaging for the Church. More damaging than what is taking place at the moment beyond a doubt.
I would think that this Priest in Mass. would know this, so evidently he is not interested in what’s good for the Church. Unfortunately his parishioners are of the same mindset, but if it were me, I would be calling for this Priest to STEP DOWN!
These people are actually believing the misinformation being published by our illustrious and oh so ethical MEDIA??? Incredible…Just incredible.
