The Dominican Sisters of Mary, Mother of the Eucharist are live-streaming the mass - complete with the act of spiritual communion.

Let us be at peace.

Thank you for this! A couple of my kids are exhibiting “cold” symptoms, and I am in inner conflict on whether to attend Mass Sunday out of concern for whether it might be “corona” or just contagious in general. I loathe missing Mass at all, but our Diocese had dispensed the faithful of the obligation through the end of the month, while Masses will yet be held at normal times. I figure if I am to miss, then I would at least like to participate in some visual way. This is perfect!

ridiculous to be cancelling mass, while shopping centers, restaurants, movie theaters etc are still open for business.

Well, actually, no. Our governor has said that any gathering over 250 people is to be cancelled.

And if you take a look at what has happened in Kirkland, Washington, you will understand that the elderly are most at risk; and if you look at the people at Mass in almost any parish, you will find that the majority are “elderly”.

So no, it is not ridiculous. It is a common sense response to a virus which is highly contagious.

Most are closing down where I live. No more swimming pools, movie theaters or museums. Restaurants, bars and night clubs limited to 50 people at one time, employees included.

Wrt movie theaters, you have a point. But stores? There is a huge difference between passing people in the aisle or being checked out for a few minutes and staying in one spot surrounded by people for an hour.

This is an opportunity for us all to rest and re-group.

I am usually so freaking busy, including at Mass (playing organ/piano, which means preparing and practicing for this ministry).

It is WONDERFUL to be able to come home from work and have absolutely NOTHING to do except cook a little dinner and relax! THANK YOU, LORD!! Pretty much everything is cancelled!!

And I love having an excuse to use up EVERYTHING in my freezer, fridge, and cupboards! So much fun to be creative (and have TIME to be creative) with food and make recipes from what I have on hand instead of shopping for more and/or going out for meals.

I still have to work (as do many of us, including my husband who works from home), and that’s pretty exhausting because I work in microbiology in a hospital lab and we are HOPPING!

And being home with no obligations gives me a perfect excuse to read my Bible and other devotional books, and pray!

We do have Mass in our city, but I don’t plan to attend but will gratefully take the exemption. I’m over 60, and because of long hours and short staffing at work, I’m quite exhausted, and that gives viruses a good opportunity to invade. So I’m resting this one out and thanking the Good Lord for the chance to “pause” for a while and re-group and re-think the direction of my life and my relationship with God and my Church family.

Over here Masses are being said by priests behind locked doors with the faithful being told to stay away, excused from the Sunday obligation. By the way that includes SSPX.

That is exactly what I’m talking about how we can help being peace to each other. Thank you @po18guy, for help this… I’m sure its easing the mind of many people who cant attend mass. God Bless.

@Gab123, if we can attend mass, yes we should but some churches have been closed, and a lot of news stations are saying if you are at risk you should consider staying home. We really shoud be supporting that by helping those who cant go mass, with this type of information.

Mass is still being celebrated here in New Zealand, although Cardinal Dew has wisely prohibited hand shaking and communion on the tongue to stop the virus spreading if there is a community outbreak.

I just hope that tomorrow’s Sunday Mass isn’t the last I attend.

Yes obviously. If one is elderly or has low immunities or is sick stay home. But cancelling all masses for the healthy and strong seems ridiculous at this point.

Common sense? what about subway stations and the entire airline industry. did the Illinois governor also shut down sky scrapers and any company with more than 250 employees? as for the mass, not sure where you live but where I go most are not elderly.

In Rome they have backtracked the shutting down of churches, while exhorting the faithful to be mindful of the regulations set forth by the government, and repeating that all Catholics are dispensed from the obligation to attend Sunday Mass until April 3, the decree says that all parish and mission churches are to be reopened to the faithful. Pope Francis, suggesting that “drastic measures” are not always best.

Earlier this week, the pope said that priests should have the courage to go out among the victims of coronavirus to attend to their physical and spiritual needs.

Our Bishop just mandated that Mass attendance be limited to 250 people or less while our sister diocese next door cancelled all of their Masses.

Pastors have until this afternoon to come up with a plan to schedule / accommodate multiple more Masses or SCAPs throughout Sunday.

But cancelling all masses for the healthy and strong seems ridiculous at this point.
Well, it would have been better a week or two ago, but better late than never! The “ healthy and strong “ are still potential carriers. Severely limiting gatherings of people is the most effective way to save lives.

May seem so, but it’s not. If things work out and we don’t find ourselves like Italy, Spain, France, etc (the data unfortunately is indicating otherwise) then folks like you will say “see, I told you so”. But the only way to stop an exponential spread if the disease is social distancing. Others have stated why you can’t compare to to shopping. Here, most Sunday masses are packed full. Unfortunately, they are z perfect place for the virus to spread.

South Korea turned it around early (one if few countries),. They cancelled all masses.

Masses will be cancelled almost everywhere. It’s just a matter of doing it early when it will really help (eg South Korea) or doing it too late (eg Italy).

AMC Movie Theatres announced that they will cut back to selling only 50% of available seats in order for people to sit apart from each other. I was to attend an opera today, it was cancelled.

Shopping centers are either swarmed with panic buying or empty.

Restaurants, think of how many of their staff depend on tips and as people begin to stop eating out, they will face difficult financial times.

It is not ridiculous, it is wise to suspend Masses.

If you were standing around with 29 other people and were told one person in that group would get pneumonia unless you stated away from crowds for the next couple of weeks, what would you do?

Yes same here as n Denver.Resturants are getting creative on n that some are now providing curbside delivery of meals rather than dining in .Even at that I hear they are removing tables to allow for recommended distancing between patrons

And sad to say cause this is my job but airlines have suspended travel to major international destinations… and are starting to reduce a number of local flights.
