Every time we leave confession we must be of the mind that we will never commit that sin again. Even if we fully know that in our weakness, maybe we will.
Can you explain this further? I know you don’t mean to, but it sounds contradictory. How can a person be of the mind that he/she will never do something and also know that in his/her weakness he/she will fall again. It seems to me that this thinking is a no-win situation.

See post #266 for some of the reference. To the rest it, it comes from Theology of the body and interpretations by,Christopher West. I’m not sure if your familiar with his books, but they are Imprimatured. I don’t have any direct quoets right now but I could look them up. But if you read my post #275, please read post #278 in follow up. I think that is important.
thanks…don’t have a lot of internet time but will try to do that…

a married couple owe it to each other to look after all their needs. good communication helps greatly. and doing research and learning and praying off course will satisfy all the difficult questions we are seeking answers for. the catholic life is both challanging and rewarding. and living this life without prayer makes it unduly difficult and more vulnerable to temptation. as an aside i once heard that intimate acts within marriage are blessings and the same acts outside of this union are not. my experience is Mother Church provides all the answers but sometimes we too have to humble ourselves and acknowledge our inability to go it alone.
You’ve not been married to a breast cancer survivor have you?

Ok seems all this talk is about men having the need to masterbate. What if the husband is the one who can no longer “perform”, and HE wants his wife to masterbate? Is this a sin?

Actually **It is **permissable to stimulate oneself. In the context of a licit conjucal act. In fact I’ve read reference that the wife is allowed to stimulate herself to orgasm if the husband cannot.
The Doctor of the Church St. Alphonse Mary de Liguori teaches that the wife can stimulate herself before and during the conjugal act. He teaches also that, if the act ends without the wife’s orgasm, she can masturbate immediately after.

lol, the stipulations on sex are hilarious. What is this based on anyway? It certainly isn’t based on the Bible.

I’m really not sure how people could view this as being a sin for the man, but not for the woman. In either case masturbation is a mortal sin.

Masturbation is a sin, but only if you aren’t doing it during or directly after sex where you could not orgasm. But directly after only counts if you start within 1 minute of the sex ending. But then you can only masturbate for 7 minutes after you are done have sex, otherwise it becomes a sin again. Then the man can pleasure you, but only if you have sex again, and then you will be able to masturbate again, but not if you are thinking about impure thoughts, unless they are impure thoughts about your husband, but the husband must know about this, and if you are thinking impure thoughts about your husband, they are actually pure, and you can go and masturbate again, but only for the 7 minutes mentioned before, starting within 1 minute of being done with sex, but only if no orgasm was achieved…if an orgasm was achieved, but the woman wants to have another, it is a mortal sin and she will be guilty of mortal sin.

Anyway, do you guys see how stupid this is? This is pretty much what is going on in this thread. You guys are worse than the Jews that won’t use the phone on the sabbath because pressing buttons is considered work. Everyone on this board is WAY too scrupulous. There is no need to analyze every little thing you do and make yourself crazy wondering if it is a sin. Have good intentions, be a good person, love Jesus and your neighbor with the best of your ability, and that is all you have to worry about.

He writes that the orgasm is part of the conjugal act, so the wife has the right to have it.
For the same reason, he writes that the husband commits a mortal sin if he, on purpose, doesn’t take care about wife’s climax.

a lot of things aren’t… every truth known to God is not in the bible… that’s why we have the Church…

you can love Jesus all you want… & still not get to Heaven… if your so called love for him is self-centered & not real… Jesus said that many will say to Him Lord, Lord, but will not enter the Kingdoml… Only those who do the will of God will enter the Kingdom of Heaven… and the will of God is to avoid sin like the plague… There are diseaes (plagues) of the boyd & there is the plague of the soul… sin…

Jesus said that many will try to enter Heaven but will not be strong enough… they are not strong enough because sin has overcome them… the effects of sin on their souls…

Jesus even said that those who do “mighty deeds” in His name will not make it.

No it is not “mortal sin”. It is “grave matter”.

Whether it is a mortal sin or not depends on the other two conditions being present. As we are not privy to the state of a person’s soul, we cannot know for certain their level of guilt unless they openly admit to the other two conditions.

And I would much prefer that if they do openly admit it, they do so in private to a priest within the context of the Sacrament of Reconciliation, not to people in a public forum.

hellopeople, It is based on these.

John 21:25

But there are also many other things which Jesus did; were every one of them to be written, I suppose that the word itself could not contain the books that would be written.

John16:12-13

"I have yet many things to say to you, but you cannot bear them now. When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all the truth; for he will not speak on his own authority, but whatever he hears he will speak, and he will declare to you the things that are to come.

John 20:21-23

Jesus said to them again, “Peace be with you. As the Father has sent me, even so I send you.” And when he had said this, he breathed on them, and said to them, “Receive the Holy Spirit. If you forgive the sins of any they are forgiven; if you retain the sins of any they are retained.”

Matt 16:18-19

“And I tell you, you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my Church and the powers of death shall not prevail against it. ****** I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven, and whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.”******

baylee,

He did not say that we will know that we will fall again. He said that in our weakness maybe we will. We always must be of the mind that we will never do it again. I think it is better to not even let ourselves think that in our weakness we might fall again. We need to think I will not fall again. I know I can do this for God.

I reported the teaching of St Alphonse, because it is an interesting testimony of an autor of the 18th century about the right of the women to have the orgasm in the conjugal act.
If you ask me what I think about the thema, I can tell you that, in my opinion, the spouses should be free in the bed. They should be allowed to choose how they want have sex.

Who are you to say that? You are not the Magisterium; you are not Christ who gave us the Magisterium. Why play games with God and dare to tell Him what you are going to do as opposed to obeying Him even when it seems strange or inconvenient?

Masturbation is nothing like claiming that pushing buttons is work. The latter is genuinely scrupulosity as pushing buttons is pushing buttons; no amount of pressing little plastic objects on a telephone can constitute an abuse of something God gave us as part of our human bodies for a sacred purpose, that of procreation and the expression of marital love.

It’s not being nitpicky - it’s genuinely trying to pursue holiness and discern the will of God for us. Those who discuss masturbation or any other sin and try to understand the Church’s reasons (id est, God’s reasons) for forbidding this act are taking their salvation seriously and taking their faith seriously. That is to be praised, not condemned.

Indeed; and since God used the Roman Catholic Church to give us the Bible to begin with (in 386, at the Council of Rome), it stands to reason God used and continues to use the Church to give us all of His teachings on morality and faith. It makes no sense to accept the Bible but reject the rest of Catholic teaching, since both came to us from the same God and through the same Church.
