I think it`s a way to curb our passions
I vehemetally disagree with you. So does the Bible and the Catechism as well as the Magesterium. It is a direct violation of the 6th commandment. Thou shall not commit adultry. Unless you have 1623 edition of the King James. Explain how masturbation doesn’t violate the 6th commandment.

To question the Cathechism does not speak well of your faith. Accept all of it, or call yourself something other than Catholic.
for the fact he uses “catholic” instead of Catholic says it all. “catholic” used in such a way can be a slander to “Catholics”

He won’t hes been asked before, and he falls back on the “humans are sexual beings and its natural” nonsense.

Explain how masturbation doesn’t violate the 6th commandment.
So, the 6th Commandment (for Catholics) is Thou Shalt not commit Adultery.

The dictionary shows Adultery as:
a⋅dul⋅ter⋅y
   /əˈdʌltəri/ Show Spelled Pronunciation [uh-duhl-tuh-ree]
–noun, plural -ter⋅ies.
voluntary sexual intercourse between a married person and someone other than his or her lawful spouse.

The dictionary shows Masturbation as:
mas⋅tur⋅ba⋅tion   /ˌmæstərˈbeɪʃən/ Show Spelled Pronunciation [mas-ter-bey-shuhn]
–noun
1. the stimulation or manipulation of one’s own genitals, esp. to orgasm; sexual self-gratification.
2. the stimulation, by manual or other means exclusive of coitus, of another’s genitals, esp. to orgasm.

There is no violation.

I am catholic & I will call myself catholic always. A lot of us catholics are confused about a lot of things we dont understand. We dont have to be scholars , & Know it alls like most on here. When I sin I go to confession & leave nothing out, I probably pray far more than the average person. The Catechism was put together by men, men make mistakes, also there are a lot of man made rules in The Church, But My pastor assures me that God loves me just the way I am , so what can I tell ya

Your pastor is a Priest. Get it right. No we don’t have to be scholars, but we have to constantly be learning. There are no man made rules in the Church. Your user name and lack of respect to call your priest a priest instead of pastor makes me think that you are Methodists. Catholic is spelled “Catholic” and not “catholic” GET IT RIGHT

The Magesrerium is infallible when it comes to faith or morals. This is a morals issue, and therefore the Catechism is not CAN NOT be wrong. If you feel the Catechism is wrong on this issue, then what makes it right on others? You sir, have put yourself in the place of the pope. I’m not saying God loves you any less. I’m just saying its time you submit to the authority of the Church. Its one thing to sin. It is quite another to label a sin as a virtue.

you are forgetting one major thing. When you masturbate you are having sex with someone other than a lawful spouse. You are screwing yourself

That’s a very weak explanation and untrue to boot. You will have to be either very limber or freakishly huge to be able to screw yourself.

Sexual intercourse is not the same as masturbation.

but masturbation is sexual pleasure and any sexual pleasure outside marriage is wrong.

yes I can be a pain in the arse. Again “Catholicity” is the correct usage and “catholicity” is slanderous. If you think this forum is a joke, then leave. I am here to promote and teach the Catholic faith and nothing other than the Catholic faith.

The act of sex is mainly for procreation and then a gift for married couples to enjoy their love together. To remain chaste when one is not married is a virture. Self-pleasuring is not chasteness. Part of our goal to be heavenward bound is to deny ourselves of things that are pleasureable. It helps keep us humble. It keeps us in the light of the Church’s teachings. It keeps us closer to God.

Mary, our Blessed Mother remained a virgin because she and St. Joseph took vows of chasity. Many couples of old remained in this type of marriage. It seems preposterous to us, for sure. The very act of self denial is what is most important!

Don’t let someone else religious views cloud your judgement and don’t allow yourself to rationalize your right to do this. You are in exteme danger with your soul> I will pray that you may see the light and that satan goes back to his hellhole and leave you alone. Peace be with you!

God Bless!

but masturbation is sexual pleasure and any sexual pleasure outside marriage is wrong.
And how does that equate to adultery? Is there another person involved?

The point of this whole thing is that masturbation is a violation of the 6th commandment. It’s the basis of the whole teaching.

Sorry, it’s not gonna fly.

You dont tell me to leave, this thread is about masturbation, not a sin, I happen to think its not a sin, but because the church says it is I abide by it, If I do masturbate which 9 out of 10 men do, I will confess it, I will not dare to approach the altar to receive, unless I have. also, there are about three forths of catholics who sit in church every week & are cafeteria catholics & they all go to the altar, How am i any worse them them. & U need to go to confession for the way U talk to people
