McCain: Dictators 'get started by suppressing free press'

We wouldn’t have had 8 years of Obama so it has everything to do with it. If Obama had been defeated in 2008 we wouldn’t be in this mess. I voted for McCain in '08 holding my nose just like I did for his reelection last year because the democrat candidates were so terrible.
I am glad Trump won because I got so tired of whining from the GOP. Unfortunately it still hasn’t stopped in spite of the victory. So lets see what they do. So far appointing a cabinet who’s secretaries are anti the departments they head sounds pretty wrong minded.

Right. Pointing things such as this out is merely good reporting. It is strange though the king of talking about “fake news” is the one spreading such fake information.
I find it ironic that the day after Trump takes the press to the woodshed, the AP runs with an un-vetted story about “Trump to use National Guard to round up immigrants”. Many news outlets then quoted the AP report…then Schumer has a press conference starting with “If this is true…”

What is being “suppressed”?

Apparently, “suppression” now means:
  1. Challenging the press over the accuracy of their stories
  2. Refusing to call on ABC, NBC and CBS first at press conferences.
  3. Trying to allow more news agencies into the WH press pool

Trump isn’t suppressing free press, he is simply calling them out when they run such biased and deceptive reporting. Seriously, watch the press conference, and then watch how incredibly biased and deceptive a lot of the reporting of it is. If Trump won, you would think these discussion panels would have at least 1 Trump supporter/voter on there to represent the other side.

Dictators control the press and they do it on the quiet to give the illusion of free press. Kind of like Clinton, the so called ‘free press’ a lot of them, were simply apologists for Clinton and her campaign, that are far greater signs of dictatorship than anything one can come up with in regards to Trump. So the greatest of Irony, is that if anyone deserves that label, it was Clinton and her campaign.

And you can tell, because even the slightest dirt that came up in regards to Trump, was heavily (and in many cases deceptively) covered by biased press, and yet when Clinton had serious allegations against her, they were downplayed and often ignored/brushed aside.

God Bless

Seems nothing ever changes,does it?😦

I am not sure we will ever see a more teflon presidency in a long time. Trump does have a way of playing fast and loose with the facts, for example he proposes having mexico pay for the wall and then proposes a tax on Americans. There is nothing however, that suggests he is suppressing the media, just complaining about them. And yet they give him the coverage. Go figure.

The best way to curtail the free press is to actively work to make them seem unbelievable. Trump is gaslighting us - making us believe that what the press reports isn’t true.

It’s much more effective than raiding newsrooms and stopping publication or halting news shows. They are still right there, but no one thinks they are telling the truth. Beloved Leader has convinced them that only he tells the truth (he doesn’t).

The free press can fact check him minutes after he lies, and still his supporters blame the reporter, not the liar.

That’s not quite what Schumer said. He said:
“…that’s despicable. That would be one of the most un-American things that would happen in the last century. And I just hope it’s not true. The fact that it might even be considered is appalling.”

A story like that does not go to press unless it is based on something solid, especially by a news organization like AP.
So while the media can make mistakes or be given wrong information, an organization like AP would not deliberately put out false facts. And if and when they are mistaken, the upstanding ones add a correction.

The memo from Homeland Security, on which the story is based, is online right here, dated Jan 25th:
documentcloud.org/documents/3467508-Trump-National-Guard-Draft-Memo.html

Schemer would not have anything to say without the AP story. AP should have vetted the story…they did not.

Well…we have to give him the coverage: He’s the president! You can’t *not *cover him. Trust me, we don’t wanna.

He may not be actively suppressing – yet.…but by calling all press “liars” and “dishonest” over and over again and trying to turn people against them…and by bullying them at press conferences…that is the first passive-aggressive stage of it.

We’ll see what happens next. If he starts banning specific journalists from the WH pool just because he doesn’t like what they write, that will be cause for concern…

More than playing “fast and loose” with facts, he outright lies. About his voting numbers, about the polls, about crime rates, about terrorist attacks, about Clinton, about the press, about…anything and anyone and everything.

Here’s a highlight list that goes up to November:

I posted earlier the fact-check corrections for his “alternative facts” that he espoused during his rally and recent press conference.

yeah, and these so-called reporters are playing “fast and loose” with the facts and are angry they got busted!!!

This is the narrative. Where’s the proof? So, far, I see Trump lying every time he holds a press conference.

The left wants a dictator. The left needs a dictator. The left cannot function without a dictator. The left has been begging for one for decades - thought it had its messiah in Obama - but he could only change the signs on the restrooms. Bernie burned out under the bus and Hill was just a hill of beans - speechless. Now that someone who opposes the left (generally) is in power and keeping promises, the left is suffering incontinence and crying “Dictator! The sky is falling!”

This is the greatest political revelation of our lifetimes.
You don’t need to label to make your point.

Bush jokingly said he wanted to be dictator and probably many other Presidents have wished to be so too. Has one President ever said “I can’t do that, I’m only the President”? I rest my case.

Yes, proof that, “yeah, and these so-called reporters are playing “fast and loose” with the facts and are angry they got busted!!!”
Well, they continue to call the travel ban a muslim ban, they all ran with the fake story of a supposed refugee whose mom supposedly died because of the ban and it turned out to be false. None of the media fact checked it, just ran with it. How’s that for starters? Yep, they’re angry they got busted!!!

Number 1, yes, It’s a Muslim ban, just like Trump said it was on the campaign trail. Just how he asked Giuliani to help craft it. Trump proved it when he said he wanted to give priority to Christians. All in contravention of US Law (8 US Code 1152)

Number 2, reporters try to discern the facts and report on them. Yes, sometimes they are told incorrect things by people. It happens. It’s not “fake news”. Someone lied to them. Breitbart, which makes things up, is fake news. Infowars is fake news.

Number 3, Trump lies to reporters much more often than other people do. But the kicker is, TRUMP OWNS THE FACTS he’s lying about. They are easily verified. He. just. lies.

you say in your post “WE don’t wanna” (cover the president).
so are you part of the press?

So you know they lie. Why did you ask me for proof of something you know?
