McCain seems to be somewhat ignorant of history, as do many of the posters. Dictators get started by using violence to advance their political program, like the “Beer Hall Putsch”, the burning of the Reichstag, or the storming of the Bastille, or the November Revolution, or any number of other examples. It is not Trump and his supporters that are engaging in violence, it is Trump opponents who are.
Exactly.

They outright took control of all forms of communication in Germany: newspapers, magazines, books, public meetings, and rallies, art, music, movies, and radio.
Most of which are dominated by the left. The only real exception is radio.

The rise of anti-Semitic and anti-Islamic violence that has sharply increased? That’s a direct consequence of his language.
I’m not sure you can count that violence in Trumpland. Only that of the relatively few protesters on the left who have engaged in violence is what gets their attention.

Yes, very serious.

Yes.

Exactly, so who in the campaign did the media pander to? The idea that Trump controlled or controls these press groups is laughable considering their hostility toward him.

By, lets say ‘hate speech’ laws? where have I been seeing that? :hmmm:

And Trump has done nothing like that, while others such as Clinton are far closer with things like hate speech laws, with hate speech laws anything anti abortion or anti same sex marriage, could be legally removed.

So where again have we seen those tactics? It has been from the LGBTQ activists, not the other way around. It has been from the Trump protestors who shut down rallies, not the other way around.

lol, I know that’s not true, anyone who followed just the main stream media, would have thought Clinton was an angel and that Trump was a joke.

lol okay, give me a positive thing about Trump during the campaign.

God Bless

:clapping:

Classic left wing tactic 101: They are always the victim even when they get their way.

Trump is not Pence. LOL

Media hostility towards him is not because of his personality or his demeanor. He is their antithesis - his policy and what he stands for.

Deliberate attempt to demonize him is part of what they can do to bring him down probably with 2020 in mind.
I did write ‘half of these accusations.’ I’m aware of this. The press is mostly hostile to anyone critical of abortions on demand or in the case of Donald Trump willing to implement some measures that are pro-life. Same thing for a whole set of social issues. If it were President Cruz, Rubio, Kasich or Pence instead, they would still face a hostile press but they wouldn’t give any ammunition to the predominantly left-wing press and the whole Cruz, Rubio, Kasich or Pence being a dictator meme wouldn’t gain any traction. Trump is in this situation because he couldn’t civilize himself.

You are missing the point. This about getting started. We have an unprecedented situation in which the POTUS is engaged in an effort to undermine the press.
By, lets say ‘hate speech’ laws? where have I been seeing that? :hmmm:
Well… you see them in post-Nazi Germany, where Nazi proaganda, Holocaust denial, etc. is banned. If you are referring to the US, tell me what specific law you are talking about.
And Trump has done nothing like that.
So far. But he has already taken us into uncharted waters.
@realDonaldTrump
The FAKE NEWS media (failing @nytimes, @NBCNews, @ABC, @CBS, @CNN) is not my enemy, it is the enemy of the American People!

Eternal vigilance is the price of liberty.

I distrusted the main stream media long before Trump came along.

After all, if they consider free speech and free press so important (I certainly do), why did they not report on laws like 18C being used to silence free speech here in Australia? Instead they attacked those and used the same narrative of ‘hate speech’ in effect aiding the silencing of free speech and free press.

Where were the reports on France’s law silencing free speech and free press on anti abortion? I guess this was a favor to them considering most of them are pro abortion anyway.

And where was the defense for free speech and free press when it came to Islamic Immigration in places like Europe, which is also silenced by hate speech laws.

These people are silencing your free speech and free press, all the while so many people who seem to have turned a blind eye to and the height of hypocrisy to accuse Trump of it for simply calling out biased and deceptive reporting.

I hope this has helped

When a media outlet decides not to publish a story about something, they are not silencing my free speech. I still have the right to speak up however I want. The news media does not have a free speech obligation to give voice to everyone’s concerns. All the examples you gave above where instances where the media did not report something. So at most we might develop a distrust that all issues will be covered equally.

But when you say you distrust the media for what it does publish, your examples do not support that variety of distrust. How do you get from “the media not cover everything equally” to “the media publishes untruths”?

I think you are misinterpreting the role played by the “Beer Hall Putsch”. This was a failed coup attempt by Hitler. It got him arrested and found guilty of treason. The violence did not give him his start or his power. But the arrest and trial gave him national attention. That attention was the real start to his power - not the violence that got him arrested. He then leveraged that attention to sway public opinion, which he quickly established by silencing the opposing press by discrediting them. That was the real start to his power. McCain is absolutely right. If Hitler had gotten his national attention by being a reality TV star, things would have progressed exactly the same as they did. The violence in the failed coup was not the critical factor in his rise to power. Of course once he had public opinion on his side, and with it political power, then he could wield violent force with impunity. Violence is the end, not the beginning of the process.

and if the sky falls and the sun doesn’t rise tomorrow we know who to blame…

your accusations are really getting tiresome.

I said if they cared about your free speech, such media organizations would write stories on such hate speech laws. It’s often the Hate Speech laws which are being used cleverly to stop free speech and free press.
The news media does not have a free speech obligation to give voice to everyone’s concerns.
I never claimed they did.
All the examples you gave above where instances where the media did not report something. So at most we might develop a distrust that all issues will be covered equally.
That’s not true, I’m talking examples of reports being reported and then writers being charged by law for so called ‘hate speech’ such as here in Australia on issues such as same sex marriage, abortion and Islam.
But when you say you distrust the media for what it does publish, your examples do not support that variety of distrust. How do you get from “the media not cover everything equally” to “the media publishes untruths”?
Because I didn’t argue that, a lot of the main stream media does publish very misleadingly and dishonestly, the media doesn’t cover everything equally nor do I expect it to. Even a lot of the stuff they do cover, if it’s in regards to abortion or same sex marriage, I can count on it being very dishonest and manipulative.

But nevertheless, so long as I can go elsewhere, than it’s okay, but when other press is being silenced for so called hate speech, which isn’t actually hate speech at all, then that’s a major concern and alarm bells should be ringing.

Try to go on one of these media outlets and say you disagree with same sex marriage or abortion, and I bet you, you will be labeled a homophobe and all sorts of other things such as anti women, anti health care, and they will accuse you of all sorts of things. Even ‘hate speech’ such as they did with Trump during his entire campaign.

People are scared to even say they don’t support same sex marriage. People are scared to say they oppose abortion. And yes, people are scared to say they are a Trump supporter, because they know they will be vilified and possibly attacked in some cases and some of the main stream media certainly wont report on those, like that Trump supporter FOX reported on who was beaten up, which is why I think the silent majority won, thank goodness too.

I hope this has helped

Agree! Perception is reality for a lot of people. These paid protesters’ give the illusion that they represent the discontentment of the majority of Americans. In turn those unhappy with the trump victory are caught up in this frenzy,Talk about fake news!

lol, I guess that’s why Benjamin Netanyahu had nothing but good things to say about President Trump and his daughter Ivanka and son in law Jared are Jewish and why Jared Kushner is a senior adviser. Because Trump is so Anti Semite as we can all clearly see lol.

The “Beer Hall Putsch” was only an early example of the Nazis penchant for political violence, it wasn’t the only one.

My thoughts exactly,!

The problem is there is nothing critics of Trump can say or do…Trump supporters dismiss all criticism of Trump as “fake news”, so we’re stuck. It seems there is no source that is trustworthy, no authority that can be turned to, other than the word of Trump himself. The bishops condemn Trump’s actions and we are told on this forum that the bishops are simply “misinformed”…so they can’t be trusted as a source. I have often wondered, and asked, where else Trump supporters go to learn about the world around them (other than Trump’s direct utterances)…CNN and all other cable news stations are “fake news”, so they’re out. I would really like to know, what do you listen to / read?
I read and listen to multiple sources to get my news. I don’t listen to CNN or MSNBC or BBC or The New York Times or The Washington Post or The Huffington Post. I don’t trust AOL or Yahoo for all the news they present.

The “Beer Hall Putsch” was only an early example of the Nazis penchant for political violence, it wasn’t the only one.
But you said it is how dictators get their start (instead of the way McCain proposed). There is no doubt they have a penchant for violence, but it is not what gets them started. Manipulating public opinion is generally the first step.

The real problem is that the dominant news media has thrown away their credibility. Trump supporters have good reason for distrusting them.

And I think you will find it’s been the other side manipulating public opinion, especially on issues such as abortion and same sex marriage. As it’s about ‘health care’ it’s about ‘love’ etc.

And in Australia, it’s not about gender theory targeted toward kids, it’s about ‘safe schools’ and ‘anti bullying’ what kind of a monster could oppose that?

I hope this has helped
