Melania Trump is the first Catholic first lady since Jackie Kennedy

Really… things have gotten out of hand on the previous thread on this subject…who cares if she is Catholic…is not Catholic…who is not Catholic but considers herself one…who is Episcopalian…what relevance does that have to being the wife of the President of the US…she is not a religious leader…the President is not a religious leader…he is a political leader and she is his wife…it’s sad to see Catholics both on the left AND the right arguing over this because it just shows that politics is the new religion here on CAF…Catholics are supposed to follow the teachings of the Catholic church…here it seems if you’re a Republican you follow Catholicism from a Republican point of view…if you’re a Democrat you follow Catholicism from a Democrat point of view…it’s just sad that people are so blinded by their politics…no wonder we are a nation divided…isn’t that what Jesus said…“a kingdom divided among itself cannot stand” …Satan must be rubbing his hands with glee seeing all this bickering among people who call themselves followers of the church founded by his arch enemy…Jesus Christ

It is confusing. Because the CNN linked story says her spokeswoman confirmed to CNN that Melania is Catholic. But the Catholic Herald story at the beginning says the spokeswoman confirmed that Melania Trump is a practicing Catholic. But then further in the CNN story it says the spokeswoman would not comment as to whether the first couple would raise their son in the Catholic faith, nor did she answer a request for specifics about Melania Trump’s religious habits, including whether she regularly attends Mass.

But maybe after the holiday, Sean or Sarah Huckabee Sanders will confirm things.

I agree with much of this. But then no one should care about Biden’s or Pelosi’s or Kaine’s or Noe’s. 🙂 The mod said we are to take newsmakers at their word and not question their spirituality or religion. Granted I’m not a newsmaker but I wonder what would occur if I removed my adjective. One of the reasons I use it is to pacify CAF because I don’t practice. But do you think I could get away with just calling myself Catholic on this forum?
 
I don’t understand why we can’t answer the simple question of whether she is Catholic or not. We know the religions of every member of Congress don’t we?

When I first saw the story, my initial reaction was that she is a recent convert.

Members of Congrss are paid employees of the people they represent. Most publicly proclaim their religious affiliation, although the cynic in me says that’s a vote-getting ploy. Melania Trump is not a member of the government, and her religion is her business.

That’s why I don’t understand the eagerness of posters to proclaim her as a member of their faith. She’s a beautiful, elegant woman but hardly one I’d want to hold as a model of my faith.

Maybe it was addressed? She could have come into the Church as recently as this Easter season. The story is too new for us to know much of the details.

This is a forum. We discuss many things. In particular, religion. And politics.

It’s fun.

It’s not brain surgery.
I think everyone who’s sane realizes this.

If this topic is not to your liking, there’s a whole lot o’ other topics to which you can contribute.

I’m sure though you csn see in many cases in the US atleast it comes to the point where political idolatry and political tribalism overtake values and principles even to the point where rather than faith affecting ones political thoughts, it’s politics that distort and pervert faith. Where one excuses any and all things from their political tribe and demonize everything and everyone in the opposite political party leading to lots of hypocrisy.

Oh yes. And I think that’s what I object to so much in these discussions about Melania. The blind ideology.

The “so what if he made fun of a disabled person, his wife carries a rosary, so, checkmate!” type of thinking.

Hope you have the courage to act out such virtues in your real life: declaring to all your family and friends who are dolivorced and remarried the truth of their own marital state. I’m pretty sure you have what it takes to be a martyr defending the integrity of Holy Matrimony, which seems to your driving passion. Great calling you have there!

Indeed, but that won’t stop those who are anti-Trump and will use any means to denigrate him, and his wife and youngest child. IMO, this is disgusting.
