Why is this question always exclusive to men.Although I find it uncomfortable as well to see all these threads about masturbation…but it’s all about you guys! Is it that Catholic woman just don’t talk about it, or they just don’t do it, or have the problem. As a woman I struggle as well, especially after losing my husband. It’s hard to admit, but there you have it. it does not just go away For the most part I’ve learned to live with it as any addiction and that I know that there are steps I have to take everyday to keep my chastity. You have to work at it.

you compared the people here to Osama bin ladin, I pointed out a difference between us and Osama bin Ladin. We are taught to love our enemies, and do good to those who hate us. He has been taught to fight the infidel where he finds him. There is a difference. Thankfully, most of Islam does not find the same things in the Koran as he does.

the Chruch (and it is stated as such in the Bible) teaches that masturbation is a sin and that is the reason enough for its members to avoid it.
It is more of a problem with men than women, I think statistics show that 90% on men have had the problem at some point in life but fewer than 50% (maybe even as low as 10 to 25%) have had this problem. But just because many folks have a problem with it does not make it okay.
Stopping or restricting masturbation does NOT in any way make someone more or less likely to become homosexual. The two activities are not in any way remotely related.

He simply pointed out the simple evils of sin, and our responsibility to label it as such! Folks who talk like you do either have some serious personal issues or just like to live in darkness, I think.

Hello to all.
First I would like to point out sexual fantasies and then I would like to ask an honest question to guys who have successfully mastered this addiction and are unmarried.
Sexual fantasies i.e. lustful thoughts are in my opinion the cause of this addicting habit, while the act of masturbation itself is just the symptom. I would like to cure the cause, rather then “cold turkey” to stop the symptom. The “cold turkey” method just proved to not work so many times, usually after 5 or more days of abstinence. While restoring my Catholic faith for a few months now, I discovered the blessing of prayer to God and blessing of Rosary. Surely I will continue to put my trust into prayer and confession (I’m still collecting courage for first confession after 5 years). Here goes the question:
Did you become asexual after stopping masturbation, i.e. did you loose interest into mating women, and do you have still sexual fantasies. How can you advance from phase “just knowing a female friend” into phase “I would like to marry her”, without considering any sexual fantasy of her.
Namely my fear is that if I eventually will be able to stop sexual fantasies, in that moment I will also loose interest in women. What is your experience? Have you lost interest into women? Is my fear valid?
Now, it is quiet probable that I am just so well brainwashed by our sexual explicit society, from the newspaper, TV, magazine, movies to well dressed women on the street, that I just am not able to see the alternative. Is an alternative style of life even possible in our sexual explicit society? do I have to become a monk with limited contact with outside world? (At least this seems also as an acceptable solution)

I hope some guys answer you here but having now reached the point of life that some people kindly refer to as “seasoned” I can say that in my youth, I too was harassed by imaginary sexual visions and fantasies (who isn’t?).
When I got serious about my fiance, I put all my effort into living in the real world. My experience was that when you engage with reality, you are in a much better place to interact with a spouse in EVERY way, not just sexually. Sexually, when you are in the REAL world, you are engaging with that person and not with some miasma of what you might wish that person to be.
I work with young people on purity issues, and the literature now suggests that pornography and vivid sexual fantasies burn tracks in your brain that are next to impossible to pull up. The farther from humanity these fantasies lie, the harder it is to relate to a real person.
So I answer your question in the negative. You may have more peace and calm without these things racing around in your brain – and you might interpret that as “lack of interest” – but believe me: the good God has given all of us about 40 million times more sexual energy than we need. You’ll have plenty to spend on the right woman when you need it!

I’m 100% sure. I believe what the Church says. I don’t doubt that it’s a sin any more than I doubt adultery is a sin. Sex is pleasurable whether in marriage, whether solo, whether out of marriage… but only married sex is holy. Anything outside of sex with your spouse is a sin.
