This could be an excellent opportunity for you to share the
Catholic faith with them, so just pray before you meet with
them, get in a good frame of mind, offer it up to Jesus, and
prepare yourself for your discussion. It could be that just 1
of them might see the truth. Pray about it, don’t get frustrated
and offer it up to Jesus immediately if you feel like your
not making any headway, ask them to come back at a
different time. You want to have them leave your home with
food for thought,

As an ex jw what do you think is the most important, or most convincing thing to share with a JW? I find that those who have been there often have very good insight.
 
the most important thing for them is to realize that Jesus is God, and that if you leave the falsetower, your not eternally damned.They need to be shown that there is life outside the falsetower, and that there is a community of Christians that will support them if they do leave, but this is after they are shown the truth. They need to realize that the falsetower does not speak for God, they speak for themselves, and their own agenda. jw’s need to know that the Trinity does exist. That it is okay to take blood, that the falsetower is responsible for the deaths of thousands of innocent people.but start out small, try to get their focus as you mentioned, about the Trinity. print the page i made here from Jason Evert’s book, if you can, please get a copy of it. Once the witness you speak to starts to see the truth, if they are willing to accept it, be prepared to offer them support if they leave the falsetower, if they do not want to accept it even if they know it is true what you have told them, then all you can do for them is to pray, because you never know if that person will question that belief once you have planted the seed, this is the most important thing you can do, is to plant the seed of truth, Let God take over from there. Keep praying, and if you can handle it, keep on talking to them. your time spent with them might save a soul.

another important thing, i read in Jason’s book, take all
the literature they offer because if you don’t, then that
literature will go to someone else, and that soul could be
lost to them. so if they offer the literature, take everything
they have, and if you are inclined, dispose of it. do not let
them see you do this, perhaps if you take it, they will be
more than likely to come back. they can be notoriously
hard headed, but don’t give up on them. if my mom and
my family had given up on me, and my mom never took
me in when i left my husband then i would have likely
gone back to them and would still be a witness today.
But, i had a good support system, and knowing that i had
people who did not give up on me brought me back to the
Catholic faith, so do not give up on them, you might reach
one person and that person might be saved as a result of
your patience and kindness.always be chartible with them,
because they are not expecting you to be. they have a
mind set that they expect people to be rude to them and
so on, and when your friendly and charitable, it makes them
want to come back and talk to you.

Regarding how one can talk to witnesses, here are a few tips from Jason Evert’s book Answering Jehovah’s Witnesses

Chapter 19: How do you witness to the witnesses?

Do not be threatening, intimidating, or pushy- you do not want to give them a reason to leave. They expect hostility; they must be met with hospitality. You cannot hope to change people unless you love them- and they know that you love them. This approach cannot be overemphasized. Even if Witnesses totally disagree with your theology, they will not forget the kindness, respect, and Christian charity that you show them- and this may be the starting place for them to turn from the Watchtower organization and embrace the truth of the Catholic faith.

To avoid appearing confrontational, use questions as your arguments. This is very helpful when dealing with people who do not expect to learn from you. It is especially relevent with the Witnesses because they are at your doorstep with the intent to instruct you. If you become overbearing or confrontational in your dealings with them, however, you will be preceived as " an opposer"- this is the Watchtower term- and they will seek to end the conversation.

The Witnesses are well trained in how to deflect arguments concerning the Trinity. for this reason it is wise to begin with a more useful topic, namely the issue of authority- whose should be trusted and why- and later come back to the subject of the Trinity. It is a matter of authority.

Not until they have learned to see the Watchtower for what it is rather than what it claims to be. You must focus on the Watchtower organization’s lack of credibility. Then the doctrines will fall with it.

Keep in mind one key point when talking with a Witness: They are notorious for changing the subject whenever they see themselves being back into a theological corner or discussing a topic thatis problematic for their belief system.

Whatever you do, keep the conversation on track and on one subject at a time.

Witnesses are told to avoid people who wish to convert them, and if you come off as an opposer, they will not allow you to offer a laundry list of tough questions. They will be eager to teach but slow to listen. So take advantage of this, instead of expecting them to sit and learn from you.

If you only have a moment to speak with them, verses such as Matthew 8:11 and John 2 : 18-21 - where Jesus predicts the resurrection of his body- are useful to ask them to study and pray about, since they are such blatant contradictions of Watchtower teaching. Have them read aloud to you the verses from their own translation, since they will be less influenced by listening to you read it from yours.

You need to play the student in order to talk a Witness into taking any information from you. For example you might say, "These few pages of arguments I found give him a tract, or pages from this book ] make it very difficult for me to consider becoming a Jehovah’s Witness, since it appears that your beliefs are unbiblical.

Don’t jump from topic to topic, and make sure that passages are read in context! If the Witness tosses out twenty-five objections against the Church, take the one you feel most confident in answering and stick with it. Leave a topic alone if you feel you aren’t getting the point across. Never attempt tomake the Witness admit to you that he is wrong, but let your words germinate in his mind and heart.

At some point during the conversation, inquire if the Witness was once a Catholic, and if so, why he left. Sincerely ask what the Lord has done in his life. This will open his heart, and to the extent that you are a good listener, he will be more prone to listen in return.

So prepare yourself to give a reason for the hope that is in you [1 Pet. 3:15 ]

Always realize the delicacy of the conversion of a Witness. It is not simply a matter of a person’s switching doctrinal positions but of reordering his entire life.

So patience, sensitivity, and love must be present in all your conversations with a Witness. Let him set the pace at which he ingests the information you present to him. when working to get someone out of the Watchtower, make sure to provide a loving alternative, a community that will accept him. This will make the transition more realistic- and less daunting.

As in all efforts of evangelism, lead him ever closer to Christ. Remind him that the Watchtower is not his Savior. Ask him to read the Bible more than The Watchtower.

Watchtower literature, on the contrary, is written by fallible men
and contains many errors, some of which it has admitted in print.

The sooner you witness to a Witness, the better. It is easy to sway someone who has only begun looking into the Witnesses by exposing him to the real history of the Watchtower.

If the person you are trying to reach has been involved in the organization for a long period of time, be especially patient and prayerful. God desires his conversion more than you do. See God’s mercy and patience as an example to follow.
 
Hi Tracey, in their KIT go to 2 Thess 2:2 “day of Jehovah” ask her what the greek word for Jehovah is? kyrous, then point to verse one, " Lord Jesus Christ", the greek word is also, kyrous. So, does not the text mean “Jehovah Jesus Christ”? after all both verses share the same grammar, and both verses use the same word that we know means Jehoavh.

Hi Denise,

I just noticed that their was no reply to your question, so I decided to come back and answer.

JW’s claim that Jesus was present at creation, and the world was created through him, but God created Jesus before he created anything else. Jn1:1 they translate as " the Word was a god". So according to them, Jesus is “a mighty god” but not “Almighty God” and is not due worship.

(I know it just gets wierder, the more you learn about them.)
 
Well, I met with my JW’s today. We discussed the references to Alpha and Omega in Rev. 21 and 22. The Greek woman did some research. She had a book that explained that in Chapter 22 Jehovah is speaking in vs. 12 and 13. This makes no sense when you read the text, but by golly that is what the WTS says so it has to be true. :confused:

So, everything went pretty well, we had a nice discussion. I have invited them back next week. They gave me a pamphlet that just came out today, and is being distributed world wide called “The End of False Religion is Near!”

It mentions in there that false religion tolerates immoral sex, and tolerates religious leaders who sexually abuse children. This made me think of a site called silent lambs that is devoted to ex-JW’s who have been sexually abused. They always claim to know everything about the organization, but I wonder if this is known by the average JW.

okay folks, i need alot of help here if you wouldn’t mind. i cannot possibly put down each chapter of Jason Evert’s book because that would take to much time and effort. Chris1888 needs help with these issues, and iam going to post the link here for him from the CAF library, as that would be far better than me manually typing everything for him on the post or in a pm. He wants to know how to talk to the jw’s about the Trinity, as well as his jw gf’s mom said that Catholics think Mary is greater than God because she bore God. I would like some scriptural back up to prove what we believe about Mary, as well as they as you know, alledge that Christ has brothers and sisters. so any help you want to contribute here would be really nice. he needs all the help we can give him. So Chris, here is the link at CAF’s library for you to see, and please print out the info for you to study and give to your gf and her mother. God bless you!

May I suggest that maybe something from the Catechism, or maybe a Catholic Encyclopedia, or some other Catholic source would be good to show what we believe. Since the question isn’t what scripture says, but what the Church believes. Scripture could be used to back it up after the point is made of what we believe. Also, if you can use something from a Catholic source it will prevent them from being able to argue that you are not telling the truth about it.

I looked briefly to see if I could find something, but it is very late, and I have to work in the morning. Maybe someone else has some ideas.

the Catechism of the Catholic Church is a good idea, but more for when his gf and his mil want to actually study it. what they need right now is literature that has what they believe and a comparison
right next to it in a column as to what we believe. May I suggest to you Chris, getting the little booklet from CAF, pillar of fire, pillar of truth? That is nice little booklet, and it can help you immensely.

Yes absolutely, something easy to understand. That is kind of what I had in mind, but I didn’t have time last night to find something. I think what they need is something that shows them what Catholics believe, something that they can’t dispute. If they don’t know what Catholicism teaches then you can’t compare it with anything else.

I have found with my JW’s that sometimes they have a false impression of what the Church teaches.
