Thanks for the link. 🙂

There are some theological and historical errors in the answer given in the second link. They include:
  • Jesus dying to save man from orgiinal sin and from hell
  • No source of evidence for Saul/Paul simply appearing on the scene.
  • The Spirit of Truth being sent to complete religion
  • Jews not following Jesus because he was the Messiah
  • Saul/Paul making up the divinity of Christ
  • God coming in the shape of Jesus
Here are corrections to said errors:
  • Jesus, because He is the Lamb of God, died to save man from sin
  • As recorded in Acts 9:1-22, Saul/Paul was an enemy of the Catholic Church, but Jesus appeared to him dazzling bright, blinding him; Jesus also appeared to Annias in a dream and said Saul/Paul was to be His Apostle (v 15); Saul/Paul’s vision was restored to him and he began to preach Jesus is the Son of God
  • The Spirit of Truth is the same Spirit who descended on the Apostles at Pentecost, as promised by Jesus numerous times
  • The Jews didn’t follow Jesus because they believe He had blasphemized, i.e., declared Himself God.
  • Jesus declared Himself God numerous times, as recorded in the four gospels - most especially in the gospel of John with the “I Am” statements
  • God became man, an act which is only possible for God.
Regarding the first link, it is suspseciously silent on how Jesus is the Mesisah. Did He fulfill the prophecies, or not? If He fulfilled them, than He is the Messiah. If He did not fulfill them, than He is not the Messiah. Furthermore, if you believe He fulfilled them, please show the prophecies He fulfilled and how He fulfilled them, and please show the prophecies He has not fulfilled yet.

This would take some time, so I’ll wait patiently 🙂

Oh, and do use the New American Bible, not the King James Bible. The KJB is heretical, and hence, is not accepted by all or even most Christans. It is especially not accepted by Catholics.

It is well known by a confirmed Hadith that a Masiha was propmised by the prophet fro the Ummah like a Masiha for the Jews. From that hadith, it appears that that Masiha is not the old Israeli prophet, i.e. the son of Mary. It will have to be a new person and he will be a leader (Imam) for the Muslims.

There will be no religious wars. Nobody should kill any one for the sake of religion only.

Neither of these give an explination of the word within the context of Islam. Again, it makes it look like it is just a title used by Allah for no reason.

If that is the case, then it really makes Islam look made up and not inspired.

So, to try to sum it up, Jesus is refered to in the Qur’an as the Messiah, but there is no clear meaning to that term. Nothing in the Qur’an explains it and there is no ahadith to define it.

It is just a title used by Allah for no reason.
Why don’t you look at the definition of it in Arabic? I thought I suggested it earlier, actually, but maybe I didn’t.

When something appears in the Qur’an without a clear exact meaning there is always some analysis–if no more information is available in the Qur’an, or in the Sunnah, there is always linguistic analysis. What does “Al-Maseeh” literally mean in Arabic? That’s a good place to start.

I think it might be unsatisfying for you, if you have some conclusion you already want it to mean.

But no reason to go off insulting Islam just because it doesn’t affirm everything you believe in.

Jesus is called The Messiah, not a messiah. The word, if taken only linguistically, can be applied to other that Jesus.

huh 🤷

Muhammed (p) came for all , not only for Jews. God sent Jesus (p) for Jews .

You said: “Jews made a serious mistake by rejecting him. They repeated the mistake & this time sadly Christians followed them by rejecting the last Prophet.”

Paul makes it clear that Jesus was first sent to the Jews, then to all the world. Moreover, the Great Comission of the Church spoken by Jesus was to: “Go and make deciples of all nations, baptising them in the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Ghost.” Sadly, nay tragically Muhammad made a serious mistake by rejecting the Gospel. I know that your tradition says that God Himself dictated the Quran and respect the fact that this is the cournerstone of your faith. But it simply does not hold up to historic redactive analysis which can clearly trace the origins of the various parts which were assembled by Muhamad, if it was Muhamad and not the Sultan, to produce it.

You said: " Also , Messiah is used in Quran not by the Prophet but God Almighty.
"

See above. Sorry. “You shall know the truth, and the truth shall set you free.” “I Am the way, the truth and the light. No man comes to the Father except by me.”

Well, I am not a linguist. Anyway, I have been told by Arabic speakers on here that the word used is The Messiah. ANd that literally means that he is the anointed (same basic understanding so far). Now, what I want to know is what it means to be annointed and why he is the only one called it.

DOes that help?

I read the responses Muslim Woman provided, they rely on the Bible for a partial answer. I’m not really sure there is an Islamic source that reveals what Muhammad would have understood the Messiah to mean.

Ibn Kathir, who analyzed the Title linguistically, suggested that the Arabic root of Messiah means to “touch,” and so it refers to Jesus’ power to heal. It is true that the Messiah would possess such powers, but to say this is why Jesus is the Messiah is wrong.

Messiah means Anointed One, and as the Islamic responses note, Kings, Prophets, and Priests were anointed. The Messiah however, would be all three, He would be a King, a Prophet, and a Priest. And there are Messianic prophecies in the OT that reveal the Messiah would be a Divine Savior.

God bless,
Tomasz

For The Preacher, those were good words of Jesus. He sure was the way and the light for the people. Nobody in his time could go to the God except through Jesus.

Help? I think Tomas’s post after yours might help answer your troubles.

Annointing, as I understand it, is what one does to a person before he becomes king. I.e., David being annointed by Samuel to indicate that he would become king.

Islam of course has no problem understanding Jesus to be a King (after second coming), a Prophet, or even a Priest, really.

None of those explanations suggest divinity or divine lineage, or the savior/redeemer quality, which would be opposed to Islam.

So far, it’s my view (which isn’t really scholarly on this matter at all) that the title Messiah doesn’t have any conflict with Islam. It’s the other titles attributed to Jesus by Christians which are in conflict only, but that being called “Messiah” doesn’t even begin to imply those titles which according to Islam are false.

Sister Amy,
What I want is an understanding within the context of Islam as to what the Messiah is and what is role is. Muslims, Christians, and Jews all agree that it means annointed. To be annoiinted means that you are annointed for a specific job.

Now, Jews hold that the specific job that he is to be annointed to perform is one thing. Christians hold that the specific job was fulfilled by Jesus and when he returns he will judge us all. However, both of us hold that once the Messiah has come, there is no more need for prophets or any other revelation. This is one reason that have Jesus as Messiah makes it impossible to accept Muhammed. The Jews have no need to accept him, either, because they hold that only a Jew who keeps the law perfectly can be the Messiah.

What is the specific job that Isa is annointed for in Islam? Or is he simply “the Annointed?” If Jesus is the Messiah, even if we use a definition that does not include his Divinity, how can you reconcile the fact that the title makes him the last prophet?

Or do we scrap the Jewish/CHristian concept and just accept it as his title?

Not sure exactly how this is relevant to the discussion… moving on…

There is a hadith about the second coming of Jesus. In fact, there are many, authentic ahadith about the second coming of Jesus. That he will be a just ruler, that he will “break the cross” and that he will judge according to the Law of the Qur’an.

Because if our understanding is correct, there is no need for Muhammed.

That last part has me confused. People are to be judged by something Jesus did not teach?
