If Christ can pardon the sins of those who commit such acts, I don’t see why our earthly institutions should not also be permitted to do so. I do think such pardons should follow the model we have in the Church—contrition and a firm amendment—in order to receive such a pardon.

I am not the one making those decisions, so I don’t know. But if there was repentance and evidence of sufficient amendment of life and other possibly extenuating circumstances, perhaps.

But what I think of a particular case is quite irrelevant since I don’t have any such power to pardon them. But I do think our system should permit the pardoning of such crimes.

But let’s turn the question around. “Do you believe that murderers, rapists, and pedophiles should be pardoned” by priests?
 
Well now you know it is. Look it up. So from now on you can use the appropriate term “Democratic Party”.

As another poster pointed out, but you ignored them, you seem to confuse sins and crimes.
If a criminal in jail truly repents and confesses they will be forgiven by God but that is a completely separate matter from committing a crime and serving jail time. Jesus forgave sins but upheld the law and even said to obey the commandments. Do not confuse the two.
Murderers, rapists, and pedophiles should never be pardoned
 
There is a big difference between sins being forgiven and letting a rapist or pedophile be pardoned.
Rapists and pedophiles cannot be cured. They ALWAYS reoffend.
 
There are no rapists and pedophiles that have gone on to live holy lives.
 
Of course we know. They are registered sex offenders and are monitored wherever they go.
 
Sentences are too low. Rapists and pedophiles should be jailed for life so there are too many sex offenders not in jail.
 
At least you admit it’s not a Church teaching. Why say things that are false?
Catholics are free to disagree with the opinions of Popes. Pope Benedict specifically said that so it’s not a matter of who is better.
Nobody is beyond hope of repenting for sins but it does not happen with rapists and pedophiles. They cannot be cured.
 
You said there are thousands of registered sex offenders who have repented.
I ask again how do you know that. Don’t scratch around a hundred years ago. YOU said registered sex offenders in their thousands have repented. Please give us the information to support this claim.

I didn’t miss the response nor am I confused. Perhaps you missed my reply, but I wrote how sin and crime are related and how the pardon powers of the president and priest are imperfectly related.

I ask you again. Even if a rapist or pedophile “repented” of their sin would you agree that they should be pardoned by the President. I am not talking about priests. We are discussing a Presidential pardon.

This poor man has been unjustly persecuted since the day after he won the 2016 election. No other human being could have withstood the shame, ridicule, harassment, persecution that Donald J. Trump did from a political party that threw a temper tantrum from day 1 after his victory.

The jealousy that people have for this man’s success is mind boggling.

The democrats have only created and woken up a new
segment of the republican party by their antics.

Glad to see the back of Trump on January 20. His biggest achievement was causing hatred in the country and dividing it.
Let’s hope and pray he never makes a comeback or worse still puts his children forward!
 
The democrats are the guilty party for creating mayhem, hysteria and division in our country the past 4 years. The democrats did not attend his inauguration, they were planning his impeachment and spying on him after he defeated Hillary. The liberal media worked with the democrat party for 4 years trying to convince the American people how bad Trump was and trying to convince everyone how bad his supporters were at the same time. The liberal media helped the democrats spread their lies about Trump for 4 years. They never gave the President a moment’s peace from criticism - day in, day out 24 hours a day. As far as they were concerned Trump was not capable of any successes. What Americans and President Trump and his family had to endure the past 4 years should never happen again. One political party cannot be expected to have so much power they can attempt a coup on a presidency over and over again!
