The Rev. Michael Pfleger, suspended by the archdiocese after suggesting he would leave the church if he is removed from his parish, says he will begin preaching at other churches if he is not reinstated by this weekend.

Pfleger made the comment Tuesday during a meeting with parishioners at St. Sabina Catholic Church. Pfleger told about 150 people he has received offers to preach from churches around the U.S. He added he needs to get back to preaching.

This is such a thorny and sticky issue, I just pray that he doesn’t go through with this.
 
He should have been rotated out of that parish years ago, as is the norm.
 
I’m not surprised. One of the occupational hazards of being a member of the hierarchy is pride and arrogance. He needs our prayers. But I wouldn’t be surprised to see him jump ship.
 
I wouldn’t want him to leave the Church.

However, if his heterodox teachings threaten the faithful, it may be in the Church’s interest to let him follow his wayward path and depart until he sees what he’s missing from the outside.

Having race-fear mongerer Jesse Jackson behind him in the photo does not help the priest’s image here. It’s not a white-black issue: it’s a matter of Church teaching.

Always keep him and his followers in your prayers–they need them to be steadfast and not sway to the winds of popular culture and new-age claptrap.
 
I am praying also for Cardinal George to stand his ground. I think with the latest comment from Pfleger, if it were me I would cut him loose now. I wouldn’t let him give me this ultimatum. This reflects a certain sort of arrogance on his part.

Cider is correct…this might all have been avoided had he been moved as he should have been. The fallout isn’t worth it. Cardinal George needs courage to do the right thing.
 
He should have been removed long ago because of his liturgies, antics, and lack of pastoral care. Some have mentioned that this is an example of why pastors should be moved every few years. I do not think this is true. He should not have been moved from one parish to another but removed from where he was. He is not fit to oversee a flock.
A pastor staying a long time at a parish can be a great thing. A pastor is to be a father and provide stability. There is something beautfiful about the pastors who would marry two or three generations in one family. Shuffling pastors every few years is not ideal and hopefully we will soon have enough faithful priests that this will not have to continue.
 
This man is working very hard to become excommunicated. he is effectively at war with his church, believing that HE is more important than Bishop’s, the Vatican, etc.

I sincerely hope that he is excommunicated, before he leads hundreds if not thousands) of the faithful into his errors.
 
He left the Church long ago.One of the vows a priest takes is obedience to his Bishop.Colour him gone.He became a protestant long ago.This is PURE Cult of Personality and he worships that tiny god he sees in his bathroom mirror.Don’t let the door hit you in the butt on the way out.Laicisation please.The Church is NOT about him-it is about the Mass.

His Bishop already GAVE him the ultimatum which FREAKED Phleger out and his “co-minister”,a WOMAN.He either repents or is gone.The Bishop referred to him having already left the Church and that he was not fit to pastor a Church.His hubris will destroy him.God gave him Free Will-he exercised it.Rejoice that a disobedient heterodox priest is being shown to the door.The seminaries are bursting with orthodox young men.No loss,in fact our gain but DO pray for this pathetic priests soul.
 
Personally, I pray that this can stop being vetted in public. I pray that the Cardinal and the Father can come to a just reconciliation.

Worst comes to worst, I hope he is defrocked and not excommunicated. Excommunication just opens up a another can of worms.

Yes, but that is regarding a statement made by Fr. Pfleger on the radio a month ago. What I mentioned is regarding his statements made in a private meeting with St. Sabina parishioners yesterday. The Chicago Tribune, which sneaked a reporter into the meeting, claimed he gave a deadline of this weekend. Parishioners, today, denied that.

I have no idea what was said or what was meant. I do think that the situation is fraught with troubles, both current and potential. Prayer, rather than judgment, is probably more helpful until public statements or actions are made.

I find it hard to believe that this is a Catholic Parish. The website doesn’t mention the Mass or Holy Mother Church. It resembles a protestant website.

Not only does the site not mention Mass, Confession, or any of the other Sacraments available - but also missing is any reference to the “Catechism of the Catholic Church, Second Edition”.
Heresy and Schism is what can happen (as with Pfleger) when a Diocese Cardinal or Bishop does not actively promote the reading of the CCC by the Laity in each of his Parishes. The people who are supporting Pfleger have never been taught the truth.

Pfleger has been running his Parish according to the Church of Pfleger far too long.

You got that right! Personally, I have seen enough of the heresy from our clergy in the past several decades that I am really sensitive to things “out of line” at this point. Have been led down the wrong path myself by priests that did their darndest to “protestanize” our church. They are leading parishioners to perdition, and truthfully, I am down right angry about it. Once heresy affects you personally, trust me, you won’t tolerate an inch of it. These poor people at St. Sabina’s deserve to be ministered to with the truth of the Catholic Church, not be sidelined on social justice as if that is the only teaching of the Catholic Church. Not so sure about the social justice Pfleger is promoting, but I won’t open THAT can of worms right now. One thing you can pretty much bet on…they have been led astray.

It will be interesting to see if he persists in taking a whole church with me when he leaves. He sure is self important.
