Back to the topic (again) which is not Mr. Voris con or pro, if he wishes to report on generalities based on out of context remarks and using the secular style of shock rhetoric, there is nothing wrong with that. However, I think it crosses the line when he chooses to castigate other wonderful Catholic ministries and accuse them of making deliberate choices based on rather base motives. That is what this thread is about. “I have my way of reporting, you have yours, but yours is not serving the Church and mine is.”

I am sure that most of us are well-versed in Catholic teaching, have read many encyclicals and bishops statements. So, in the Catholic media, who sounds more like the Catholic Church? I still think that the Catholic Church is big enough for all types and I hope some day Mr. Voris will have an apostolate in the Church. On the other hand, if he thinks he can only follow God being independent, that is between him and God.

Action (or inaction) speaks louder than words.

The title of this thread is deceptive/misleading as Voris does not “Take to task” EWTN, he mentions many Catholic media outlets, and EWTN is just one of them.

Michael Voris’s apostolate is just as much “in the Church” as any other lay-run apostolate.

Remember my Blitzkrieg story.

For example, say it is 1940 and the Blitzkrieg is raging over Britain. I would expect all media outlets to be covering it extensively.

In contrast, I don’t expect all news programs to cover a specific DUI incident.

This takes us back to the fact that the difference is not Voris and his delivery, but what we consider serious problems in the Church.

If there is a certain park in your city that is full of predators and the news says little or nothing about it you would think the park is safe.

Full circle, some of us believe that there are serious problems in the Church and that we should be in combat gear and there are some of us that think the skies are clear.

I don’t think that’s what this is about. It’s not about whether or not we recognize the big problems. It’s about sticking to verified facts in reporting.

Full circle on calling specific errors in Voris reporting. Where’s the syllabus of errors?

As this thread is about one specific video that Voris made (and in light of the thread cleansing), I think it best to stick to the video in question. I think I outlined all my concerns about this video pretty extensively in post #19.

There is no need to produce a laundry list of other errors. In discussing the video in question, Voris’ other errors (or lack there of) is irrelevant. He could be 100% right on everything else he has ever said and still be wrong in this video.

If people here are ever interested in asking Michael questions directly instead of on an obscure Catholic Answers thread that he will never read, make an appointment with his scheduler at bridgetgallagher@churchmilitant.tv. Michael is busy traveling and speaking, but if you make an appointment, he will gladly set aside time to speak with anyone.

You can also write contact@churchmilitant.tv to send any queries, although I can’t guarantee a response, since he gets hundreds of e-mails a week. He does read them all–but just understand that he cannot respond to every single one because of time constraints.

Finally, a good episode on “the Vineyard.” He was able to speak out in Napa Valley, CA a few weeks ago and did a nice Vortex in one of the beautiful vineyards there…

Nice use of hyperbole, but the fact remains that very few within the church (lay or clergy) want to “rock the boat” and face the facts, for whatever reason.

I agree with Voris in that most Catholic media outlets are milquetoast in their approach to the festering rot within the Church. The inaction on the part of the Catholic media is just as bad as straightforward action (e.g. heresy, attack, scandal)) against Holy Mother Church, IMO.

Agreed. I too thought the name was unfair. He criticized many for not reporting his way.

He is in the Church. His organization is not a Catholic apostolate as he it is not recognized by the Church and under its authority as they are at CA, for example. It is not necessarily wrong, but it is outside authority of the Church.

Fixed it for you 😉
Ditto.

Seriously. Unless you can show where the Catholic Church has joined Mr. Voris in this campaign, then I am skeptical of where you get your Truth from. I get mine from the Church, as I am sure you do. Do you not think that opinions can differ on such matters as journalism and burden of proof?

Full circle on my previous point that everything that comes out of the Vatican is sufficient. If Paul took that advice he would have never rebuked Peter.

The sex scandal went unabated for years. Did the Church lead the charge against it?

If there are rampant problems in the Church, you don’t just say “well the Church must know what it is doing.”

“If the Church isn’t reporting it then we don’t”…

It took non-diocesan lay reportes like American Life League, Reform CCHD Now Coalition,LifesiteNews.com, Bellarmine Veritas Ministry, and ChurchMilitant.TV to blow the lid off the Catholic Campaign for Human Development, which is the domestic charitable arm of the USCCB.

Not a peep from the USCCB for DECADES about the fact that the CCHD was regularly giving hundreds of thousands of dollars of YOUR MONEY (taken from the annual collection) to pro-gay, pro-contraception, pro-abortion non-profits.

Not a peep from the USCCB that the CCHD Executive Director, Ralph McCloud, supported and campaigned for the pro-abort Democratic candidate in his home state.

Not a peep from the USCCB that John Carr, Director of USCCB’s Justice & Peace, was an active member of ardently pro-gay, pro-abortion Center for Community Change for years while he was directing the CCHD.

It took these non-diocesan groups to bring the truth to light–and their reports made it to the Vatican, Pope Benedict saw them, took action, and issued the Motu Proprio just late last year “On the Service of Charity,” giving clear guidelines absolutely forbidding any Church grants to be given to groups that work in direct contravention of Church teaching.

We never heard any criticism of the CCHD from the mainstream Catholic media. If they had bothered to speak up, maybe we could have had these problems fixed sooner. Maybe we could have brought more pressure to bear on this organization to clean house and be faithful to Church teaching.

As it is, the continued silence only emboldens the CCHD to flagrantly ignore the directives coming from the Holy See.

Michael did a report on this Motu Proprio:
