Well, when Hitler seized power in Germany, he…

Wait a minute…Hitler didn’t seize power, he was democratically elected.

Well, that makes it okay, then. Since he was democratically elected, anything that he did after that should have had everybody’s full support.

Right?
Well, stick a fork in representative democracy, folks, it’s done. Godwin’s Law wins again.

Are you advocating a return to monarchy or theocracy?

We’d be a lot better off if we had zealously defended the idea that the Constitution means what it says, and not what whoever’s in power wants it to mean.

Tu quoque and false dichotomy in one reply!

God bless you.

I agree: e. g. the unconstitutional ‘right’ to abortion.

God bless.

Vern, would you explain this comment a little more and how it applies to the current discussion?

The post just before this one is a good example:

As written, the Constitution would protect us againt such things as imposition of Sharia law – but nowadays it’s “a living document,” which means anyone can make it mean whatever he wants.

Thank you. I wasn’t sure what you meant. :o

Saying that a city will be under “Muslim” control seems to imply that an invasion has taken place that the people in that town are against.

People of the Muslim faith who are elected democratically in a municipality is not something that needs to be met with such eyebrow raising concern.

These posts smack of some of the anti-Catholicism that threatened to sink John Kennedy…then of course there was the anti-Catholicism that sunk John Kerry, ironically of course that was practiced by supposed “Catholics”
you seem to forget the faith of the people who flew the planes into the world trade towers was Islam. you also forget that while there was a little displeasure with it amungst muslims, there was no general or widespread condemnation of it. since there was no widespread cpndemnation of it I cant trust them as a whole. forst time you get me shame on you the second time its shame on me. I dont want it to get to shame on me.

You and I must have been getting our news from different sources. Among American Muslims condemnation of the attack came from nurmerous individuals and organizations, at least as I recall.
I cant trust them as a whole.
You seem to be grouping all Muslims together. This is as inappropriate as grouping all Christians together.

Yes, JFK and John Kerry were “supposed” Catholics. I long for the day when a Catholic really does reach the White House.

Where, exactly? Are you sure you quoted the correct post?

Amendments to it have been made for a very long time. Or are we talking about two different things?

We are talking about two different things – to use the example provided by someone else, the 14th Ammendment, which says the states cannot deprive any person of life, liberty or property, was interpreted to mean unborn persons can be killed on a whim.

I’m not an anti-Catholic Catholic, I’m just an anti-Kerry Catholic and an anti-Muslim Catholic.

Actually, he did seize power after he declared an emergency based on a lie.

The Constitution doesn’t protect us from anything. Our Police, armed citizens, and the military, backed by our courts are what protect us.

But they do so under the aegis of the Constitution.

Our policd, armed citizens and the military have their duties and limitations spelled out by the Constitution. Which is why playing funny games with the Constitution is so dangerous. In the example we were given (abortion), about four times as many innocent victims have died to date as died in the Nazi Holocaust.

Are you advocating a return to monarchy or theocracy?
Neither one, Mirdath. You completely missed the point of my post, which was that while our form of government does allow free and democratic elections, those who are being elected may not necessarily be the best ones to be put in power, based on what they might do after being put into office.

Hitler set about dismantling the very democratic freedoms that put him into power, and I have every reason to believe that Muslims, once elected, will do the same.

I do not remember ***ANY ***widespread condemnation from Moslems in the USA after the September 11, 2001 attacks. I do remember a small group of Moslems after 2 weeks said that what the hijackers did was “ill-advised”.

What I do remember, as clearly as the image of the planes hitting the buildings, is the **absolute silence **from the Moslem community in the USA and around the world. Silent, that is, except for praise of the hijackers.
