My wife of 16 years is going through a midlife “change”. I am Catholic and she became Catholic when we were married. We have 5 adopted special needs children who have taken all our time and energy, so much so that we (myself especially) have not given anytime to the marriage. She has also taken a lot of emotional abuse from our oldest adopted daughter who is diagnosed with Reactive Attachment Disorder.
She has been a struggling for a long time and finally in July told me she is going through a midlife crisis and she “love me, but was not in love with me” and will be leaving me soon. Really our marriage was not what it should be. She also mentioned she has checked out of parenting the kids it has been too much.
Since that time I have made her the number one priority in my life. Unfortunately this has only pushed her away even more. She told me she want’s to have a talk about her leaving, kids, finances, etc that we are a team in this and if not she will be making those decision on her own.
After much prayer I have decided when she brings it up I am not going to even discuss it. I am going to tell her as politely as I can that we were I don’t believe it in. I am not entering into this discussion.
Do I need to explain anymore? Should I push her about Counseling even though the more I do things the more she ramps up this idea of leaving. I think because she wants to leave the old husband, not leaving this “new” one. Do I mention the kids at all and the effect on them. She has not fallen away from the Church at all, but it is definitely not a priority.
Most of all just say prayers. I am not sure what is in God’s plan, but please say prayers. I know God knew this needed to happen our marriage could not have gone on the way it had, I just don’t know what his overall plan is and how much pain and suffering I need to go through.
