I was curious if other religions (Protestants, Hindu, etc.) have “miraculous” occurances. I’m wanting to test a theory that I have.

God Bless,

Jessica

Well, growing up Protestant, I never heard of anything miraculous happening in modern times, however, I always heard of miraculous things happening to individuals in the Catholic faith. I was just curious if it was only Catholics who experienced these miracles, and if not what are some examples of modern miracles that other faiths have witnessed.

I have heard of a miracle in the Hindu religion in which one of the idols that they used to represent one of the gods actually could drink milk (or at least a spoonful of milk would disappear when put to the idols mouth). It was said that people came from all over in order to see this miraculous event. I always wonder why these things happen. Any ideas?

Well, I’ve heard of miraculous healing in Protestants. I still have not heard of the magnitude of Miracles in Orthodox and Catholic history… bilocation, levitation, the incorruptibles, eucharistic bread turning into real flesh at the consectration, etc…

I personally would love to see the body of an incorruptible. I think Bernadette’s body is still being displayed, is it not? And I think Father Solanis Casey is too, but he’s not a saint… yet.

Jag I think what we see mostly today in the Roman Catholic Religion with regard to the “modern miracles” as you called it are things like bleeding or crying statues, images of Mary appearing in places etc. etc.

The miracles I personally see are more healing miracles. Either talking with folks who have come to know Christ because of a miracle they’ve encountered, or just about a year and a half ago we had a member of our church (Roxanne) develop esophageal cancer and was given basically 6 months to live. Our Elders prayed over her, did sick and shut in visits etc. etc. She’s now in complete remission and has done an about face in her spiritual life. When she was recovering from her surgery she described Christ coming to her. HE told her that her work was not complete here. When Jesus said HE had to leave Roxanne started to cry out for Jesus not to leave her. She started to wake up from her anesthesia and heard 2 of the nurses talking and saying “this woman is crying out for Jesus”.

Last year my son had a deadly brain tumor that required surgery and gamma knife treatment. Again our Elders prayed over him before all the treatment took place and it was amazing how fast he recovered. The gamma knife treatment is such a high dose of radiation that it literally kills the pituitary gland requiring life-long hormone replacement drugs. When we spoke with the endocrinologist we asked if the Pituitary gland ever recovers on its own. The response we got was “it would take an act of GOD”. Well this year we have noticed my son needing less and less of his hormone drugs. After the last visit to the endocrinologist she told us that his pituitary gland is starting to function again and that our son may not need many of the meds he is now taking. We’re talking medicine to regulate urine output, control thyroid levels etc. etc. Major things.

Both of these situations are clear miracles from GOD and happened outside of the Roman Catholic church.

Snert I disagree completely. You can’t even begin to compare a miraculous healing with levitation. What does levitation prove anyway? That could easily be satan. Please also tell me what church has had bread and wine turn into literal flesh and blood. Aside from Lanciano that is. We haven’t seen anything like that for centuries which is why over 50% of Catholics don’t even believe in transubstantiation anymore. As far as incorruptibles the bodies are embalmed and kept in air-tight containers. It’s no surprise they would still look well preserved. That doesn’t prove a miracle happened.

Like I said to Jag the miracles reported by Protestants seem to be much different than Roman Catholics. Makes you wonder why.

NDFan,
Thank you for you sharing your stories. The miracles that I’m mostly referring to are the healing miracles. I recently heard of a testimony of a man who was found nearly dead in his home one morning. By the time he reached the hospital, his heart was in flat line. He was like this for one or two (maybe more) days. They were getting ready to pronounce him dead and prepare for the funeral when he woke and and started taking off the IV, breathing tubes, etc. He had been visited by Jesus and given a second chance. One of the doctors became a priest after this. He now goes around the world sharing his story. He’s Catholic. It just made me wonder if others witness these same experiences. I know a man who had severe back problems for years. He was in so much pain and was told it would be permanent. He went to a healing ceremony (in the Catholic Church) and was healed completely and has not had a back pain since.

… gods actually could drink milk (or at least a spoonful of milk would disappear when put to the idols mouth).
Not all the statues drank milk . only statues made by a special metal sucked milk of a little amount . Nothing miracle at all . It was because of the metal that it looked like so .

To the OP , Muslims beleive several Prophets (pbut ) performed miracles by the will of God Almighty . Such as Moses (pbuh) divided sea , Jesus (pbuh) cured blind , gave life to dead etc. To us , holy Quran is the best miracle 🙂 It’s the final , uncorruped holy book of God Almighty that will remain unchanged till the Last Day.

Despite the hostile anti-Islamic propaganda since centuries & even after 9/11 , non-Muslims are accepting Islam – to me , it’s another miracle 😃

  1. They are not clear miracles from God.
  2. They can be explained via natural sciences.
  3. The human body is amazing and highly adaptive.
God is not needed to heal anyone, as the body is capable of doing it on it’s own with the assistance of highly trained Doctors and modern medical science.

A **clear **miracle would be someones severed limbs instantly and miraculously growing back into perfectly normal limbs and there is no natural explanation.

That never, ever happens. ( Because there are no supernatural miracles)

What you consider a miracle, is in fact subjective and if something is subjective, it is obviously not a clear miracle.

JAG yes absolutely others do share these stories. Have you ever read 90 minutes in heaven? The gentlemen was pronounced dead for 90 minutes by the paramedics after a horrific car accident. A pastor (non-Catholic) states that he felt the need to just sit with the gentlemen and pray. As the story goes he woke up. Now he has had to have several surgeries to repair injuries to his legs but he should technically be deceased.

My mother-in-law visited a church with a friend of hers that I believe is Pentecostal about 2 years ago. The Pastor is known apparently for his healing powers. Now my mother-in-law was extremely skeptical of this as we all probably would be. But she was suffering from a terrible lower back condition that inhibited her walking ability. She went up to the front of the church with an open mind and the Pastor touched her on the head. She said she immediately blacked-out and can only remember feeling a closeness to GOD that never felt before. When she came to, the gentlemen there helped her to her feet and her back was healed completely. She has not had one day of back pain since.

16,000 children die of starvation everyday of the year and you folk are getting excited about the Creator of the Universe healing someones chronic back pain?

Phantasm I wouldn’t disagree with you about the body being amazing and adaptive. But that’s only because GOD created it that way.
God is not needed to heal anyone, as the body is capable of doing it on it’s own with the assistance of highly trained Doctors and modern medical science.
Hmm so my son’s pituitary gland which was essentially a dead organ resurrected itself and started functioning again on its own?
A **clear **miracle would be someones severed limbs instantly and miraculously growing back into perfectly normal limbs and there is no natural explanation.
Oh this is such rubbish and has to be the oldest atheistic statement ever made.
That never, ever happens. ( Because there are no supernatural miracles)

Well sorry but you stand corrected. A dead organ cannot bring itself back to life.

I must assume you only desire to discuss “modern” miracles from your lead in statement. I presume really modern miracles are what has happened in the 20th Century. There are wonderful miracles that have and do happen today for individuals of all beliefs. Yet, IMO, these are akin to private miracles as seeing what occurred is limited or can be validated by a few if any.

Your remark regarding the incorrupt bodies associated with a select few is interesting. As we know, embalming was not a common item in Europe, unless you were one of those wealthy crusaders, noblemen, priests or nuns. Of course, I don’t believe too many of those incorrupt bodies of those priests or nuns were from wealthy backgrounds,….in fact, just the opposite!

Furthermore, I can’t find out when air tight containers were invented,……but considering that some of these relics are several centuries old, your remark about being enclosed in air tight containers misses the mark here.

I don’t know why an example of levitation was used, but there are other Eucharistic miracles one can research. And what is really curious, they all involve type AB blood, you know, that same type that is in 6% of the world’s population!?

Finally, your statement about over 50% of the world’s Catholics don’t believe in transubstantiation anymore, what does that have to do with the OP? I never knew about Lanciano until this Internet thing was invented, but that didn’t change anything for me.

I feel certain all here feel good for you, your son and family. Perhaps that is why you are here, to learn a little more about why do all these things that we “all” can see, why do they seemingly always happen to this one particular Church? Fatima happened less than 100 years ago. Is that modern enough? Or go through the records of Lourdes this past century. Be assured you and your family are in my prayers tonight.

🙂

I’m sure the Doctors did not leave a dead rotting organ inside of your son

If the organ was absolutely dead, with no blood flow, I assure you, it would have been removed by the surgeons.

In other words, you would not believe even a miracle. There is a bible verse that speaks to this. I just can’t remember the reference

Is that an exact figure? I thought that it would be higher.😦

I have always thought that God has given man the tools to solve most of our own problems. Think of how much peace and prosperity could exist in the world if all mankind was selfless and truly loved their fellow man. Instead of helping one another, many people only care about their own needs. A lot of modern starvation is caused by corrupt governments, for example.

If I didn’t believe that man was made in the image of God, then I would have to think of us as just another species on this earth. If other species starve to death, and are forced to suffer, then why shouldn’t we, humans?

If other species starve to death, and are forced to suffer, then why shouldn’t we, humans?
I suppose God is too busy miraculously healing back pain and arthritis, than to save those children from certain death.

In a natural universe, void of any supernatural Deity, there is no reason why we should not also suffer, due to the pitiless indifference of a cold universe.

If there is a supernatural God who supposedly heals chronic back pain while children are abused, murdered and starve to death.

Perhaps this God should spend more time on those children, than on those Westerners with their aches and pains.
🤷

I.

Yes, no God, means that a human life should be no more important then a cute little bunny rabbit, or my sweet beagle.

Wildkit I didn’t say I only desired to discuss “modern” miracles. The OP referenced “modern” miracles so I responded based on that premise.
Your remark regarding the incorrupt bodies associated with a select few is interesting. Well that’s not entirely true. Embalming was most certainly practiced widespread in Europe from around 500ad forward. Writings of contemporary physicians have been discovered that describe the methods used as well as mummified bodies.
Furthermore, I can’t find out when air tight containers were invented,……but considering that some of these relics are several centuries old, your remark about being enclosed in air tight containers misses the mark here.
No it does not miss the mark. Most incorruptible bodies get exhumed from their tombs to see if they are intact. The tombs alone act to preserve the body. That’s what I’m referring to regarding air tight containers. Try laying in a sealed tomb and see how for long you can breath. There have been several incorruptible bodies that once exhumed started to decay over time. What I find most interesting is that we would even put a premium on a body not decaying after death as if it somehow guarantees GODLY intervention and is supporting proof for that person to be declared a saint. That is purely a paganistic practice.
I don’t know why an example of levitation was used, but there are other Eucharistic miracles one can research. And what is really curious, they all involve type AB blood, you know, that same type that is in 6% of the world’s population!?
We can disregard levitation but as far as Eucharistic miracles please name one that has happened within the past say 500 years.
Finally, your statement about over 50% of the world’s Catholics don’t believe in transubstantiation anymore, what does that have to do with the OP? I never knew about Lanciano until this Internet thing was invented, but that didn’t change anything for me.
Keep in mind we’re talking again about “modern” miracles as stated by the OP. I mentioned the unbelief among current Catholics on transubstantiation because miracles like the supposed one in Lanciano have pretty much disappeared for a very long time. Many scholars believe this is a contributing factor to the unbelief. We could probably argue whether it is or isn’t but it’s not worth it.

Well I’m very guarded about Fatima given the content and timing of the message. But I’m sure something interesting was going on there whatever it was.

As far as my son I certainly appreciate your prayers and agree that our sharing of miracles can only strengthen our faith. For me personally something like Fatima or Lourdes has no impact on my faith as these types of phenomena can certainly be the work of an evil spirit. Fatima claimed that the path to GOD was through her now which is a complete contradiction of scripture.
