Long after the incident. It would appear the main issue was a the kid’s long bleached hair. Are you afraid Romney might go after pro wrestlers?
At the time when Romney was 18, there were lots of long hair hippies around. Romney was from a conservative background, and he was one of many students who picked on long haired hippies, whether they were gay or not. Not that I’m saying it’s right to do that, but just saying it probably happened a lot at that time.

It was the LONG HAIR that was the issue. Not the GAYNESS, which is how they are spinning it today.

If Romney has any real integrity, he will apologize to the family of the gay student for leading a gang to assault and humiliate him. And he will use the controversy to open up a new dialogue about bullying in general and bullying of gays specifically.
And Obama would apologize to that family that owned the dog he ate.

If the left has any real dignity, it will apologize to the family of the gay student for dredging up this story about him, letting the whole world know he was gay, an alcoholic, and was humiliated by his peers. And the left already has used the controversy and its insoucient treatment of Lauber, his homosexuality, his alcoholism and generally messed up life, to open up a criticism of something classmates said Romney did 47 years ago as if it had any relevance to now.

I agree we have no way of knowing 100% if this was an attack on someone because they were suspected of being gay or because they just looked different. We may never know why Romney did it as I doubt he would ever say that he was motivated by the man’s sexuality since after all he is running for election.

I do believe that it is uncharitable to presume someone guilty without any evidence. However we have some evidence which tends to support this inference. First of all the victim was teased as a homosexual in school because of his appearance. Second, the victim later came out as a homosexual. THe fact that Mitt went after this guys long hair is also telling as long hair did not conform to his opinion on gender roles and the appropriate length of a man’s hair.

Now is this knock you out drag you out evidence that Mitt Romney bullied a kid for being gay: Of Course not. It does however raise suspicions.

That’s simply not true. The student was basically acting feminine, and since he was already presumed gay, Romney led a gang to assault him and humiliate him. Romney was known for taunting gays.

Any word on if Romney has apologized yet?

Turns out this guy is dead, so we can’t even ask him.
I didn’t see the following pages at first. Yes, he’s dead. And yes, he did “come out of the closet” later in life, but was apparently still “in the closet” when Romney and his cohorts cut his hair. So, really, the homosexual protectionist premise of this thread is bogus.

An aggressive prank at age 17 or 18, yes. An attack on a known homosexual, no.

I will say one more thing on this subject. It always troubles me when a politician…any politician …says that they have no memory of an event.

John
Hmm. Seems the older I get, the more things I find I have no memory about. For instance, I rather routinely of late enter a room only to find that I cannot remember why I went in. Sometimes I open the pantry door and then cannot remember what it was I went to the pantry to find. Sometimes I misplace my reading glasses, or my book, or the paper, or a receipt, or the phone, or my van keys, or…

Guess politics will never be for me for several reasons, among them being it seems I have no memory of several events lately.😃

I can’t remember a whole lot of stuff that happened just a few years ago, let alone when I was in high school. Can you?
👋 Count me in, because I’m with 'ya, sister! I can’t remember what I had for dinner two nights ago, let alone what I did in high school.

So you mean you aren’t bothering to read the article? It might help, if you want to make informed comments. When you read it, you will learn that Romney’s victim was basically acting feminine, and since he was already presumed gay, Romney led a gang to assault him and humiliate him. Romney was known for taunting gays.

They probably did it to a lot of students, not just this one gay one that feels so singled out and hurt, poor baby. 😉 I doubt if Romney even knew he was gay, just that he had long hair.
Desperate times call for desperate measures, I guess. Guess the Obama camp feels these are desperate times, so they will milk this event for all it is worth.

He was perpetually called a homo by classmates due to his appearance and demeanor. Surely you agree that one need not out himself to be deemed “unmanly” in the eyes of his peers.

Aggressive pranks are hazing a kid who wants to join a football team, not a group attacking a social misfit who is all by himself

Wow. Easy there, fella. You seem to be getting yourself in quite a lather here over this thing.

What’s the source for “Romney was known for taunting gays”?

Any word on if the left has apologized yet to everybody who knew Lauber and possibly cared about his memory, for dredging up this story about the homosexuality and alcoholism of Lauber?

Any word on if the left has apologized yet to Romney for improvising a teenage hazing into an allegation of a present character fault?

Wonder how many detective firms the DNC has hired in order to dig out every story it possibly can about Romney’s life, well and about his wife’s and childrens’ lives too. Wonder how many writers it has hired to fabricate some or all of it.

Wait and see what happens. The Dems will keep doing this (in between pedophile priest and charging bishops with crimes stories) more and more, departing more and more from anything factual. And know what? I’ll bet Romney doesn’t reciprocate.

They would have anyway. The left is just low-road to the core.
