While I was channel surfing Chris Matthews said Romney looked like he was wheeled out like a statue at the convention. Back to Fox I went.

Personal attacks from liberals are ridiculous. When you hear a fox news host critique a democrat it is policy

The acerbic tone of Chris Matthews is generally tempered with humor. I personally find him hilarious. Are you so sure about the purity of Fox news hosts?

I find him hilarious as well. Too bad there are so many people out there who think he has a legitimate news program. Maybe he can join John Stewart…although I find Stewart more enlightening than Matthews.

I’d ask any critic of Fox news host to find a guest personally attacked like MSNBC hosts do to republicans

Some of these host/journalists should go on each others shows instead of preaching to the choir all the time. I want to see Hannity take on two or 3 liberals and not just the one token liberal and two consrvatives. Matthews against O’Reilly (who is really a conservative in independent clothing) and so on. There are some many substantive battles to be had.

I want to see a real defense of the issues to the point that the other guy/gal gets shut down. If something is false, it’s false. If you’ve been espousing false information, take it like a man when your proven wrong. Never happens though. That’s why many see phonyness in it all.

Well, I find Matthews funny, not only because he is so often so wrong on most issues, but because of the pompous and petulant manner in which he bathes in his own love of error. He is like the “mean girl” at school who gets elected as homecoming queen and waves it in everyone face. Someone just needs to follow it up with an over-ripe tomato.

Even with his own, largely Democratic, guests.

People decry the bias in these networks, but in reality it’s what they want. People want their opinions reinforced by these networks, they aren’t interested in hearing opinions that conflict with theirs. Despite having more outlets for news and information than ever, we increasingly spend our days in echo chambers (see Wikipedia under media echo chambers for a list of authors who have written on this-it’s the easiest list).

The thing that makes me laugh is people on the Right and the Left think the “other side” is the only group that does it! We all do it, we’re kind of tribal by nature and we seek out like minded folks naturally.

Like minded folks is great but if something is false, it’s false. The brainwashing techniques of the past are in full effect. It’s a “repeat after me” approach until your dumbed down that shows no sign of changing.

Because it works! It works in advertising and it works in politics. People make money and gain power because they have learned how to repeat the same lies over and over until people accept them as truth. And standing on each side are the “true believers” who are convinced that their side is the one telling the truth 100% of the time and the other side lies 100% of the time.

Who really loses in this mess are the folks who know perfectly well that both sides lie when it’s convenient or profitable for them and the noise of the"true believers" is drowning out all common sense.

**The following is NOT TRUE! **< Don’t you wish all political info came with this disclaimer? 🙂

A friendly national radio talk show host asks the Romney Campaign for a recorded soundbite of the candidate’s views on “traditional marriage.”

A packet arrives, but its not a CD or tape. It’s a record. Vinyl.

The show’s engineer cues up the record but*** bbrrrrriiiipt*** - the needle slips and scratches it. The host points to the engineer SO he plays it anyway …

Host: "And we have here Mitt Romney’s OWN words regarding his** deeply held religious beliefs** on the subject of* “traditional marriage”* :okpeople: - tdla …tdla …tdla …tdla …TDL- AHH …

Voice: "Thank you Rush. I’m Mitt Romney and

I want to promise you, the American people,

that holding FAST to the tenets of the faith I received from my family

I believe that Marriage should be ***strictly defined *** as being between a MAN …

bbrrrrrrriiiipt and a WOMAN and (click) and a* WOMAN* (click) and a WOMAN (click) and a WOMAN (click) … :bigyikes:

Moral(s) of the story: Watch out for Murphy’s law; stay up on your technology, never go live; be careful of recordings – and during campaign season (if you’re Mormon), remember not to be caught singing “Gimme that*** ol’ time*** Religion!”

Sudden thought - Maybe a lifelong Mormon with a 30 year marriage to ONE woman IS pretty conservative! 😉 And can change with the times when needed.

It looks like - though polygamy got the Mormon faith off the ground, “it” has repented of the practice - it’s penance being occasional teasing from others.

As a Catholic I’m not sure if my Church’s theologically is closer to Romney’s Church than Obama’s (thinking the “Reverend Wright” one he long belonged to) … but for contrast:

I remember the Mormon Tabernacle Choir singing "…God shed his grace on thee …"

and Reverend Wright shouting "No, no, NO …God D* America!"**

Not joining either denomination … but I know who I’d rather have lunch with. (Coffee? You don’t have COFFEE?) :tiphat:

Romney Camp Launches Site Touting Romney’s Bain Career
After months of attacks on Bain Capital, Mitt Romney appears to have decided to highlight — and defend — his time there, rather than play defense. Last week, he wrote an op-ed for the Journal
called “What I Learned at Bain Capital.” Today, his campaign launched a new site: sterlingbusinesscareer.com that features video testimonials from those whose companies benefited from Bain.

With all this, it will be surprising if a significant chunk of his convention speech isn’t devoted to his career at Bain

:yup: He got away with that “I had a thrill go down my leg …” free ad for Obama’s irresistible charisma and still kept his job as (an impartial?) news reporter/commentator - yet when a conservative misspeaks, or even just runs (when the polls say he can’t win and will only hurt the (less conservative) candidate that CAN - he is supposed to “step down,” be asked to - or FORCED to).

Matthews is a Catholic (?) and when a Catholic politician* he interviewed told him the Church teaches that abortion is a grievous sin, he (Matthews) just sighed and softly said “I know.”

But he seems to heartily support (and not very stealthily) famously pro-abortion candidates. Particularly “the Thriller!”

Here’s hoping he is more professionally neutral THIS time out.

** possibly ex-congressman Bob Dornan if memory serves. *

i gave up watching chris matthews long ago. he just isn’t worth watching nor is the aggravation worth it from watching him and listening to him.
i think for a time i could tolerate him. i wasn’t a regular viewer of his show, but now i cannot stand to watch him. i can only imagine when the campaign season heats up these last couple of months before the election what he will be saying about romney and ryan.
