MN Bishops Ask for Income Tax Increase

Wanted to post two things before this thread gets closed because of all the name-calling:
  1. The top 50% of federal taxpayers in 2002 paid 96.5% of all taxes. Here is the Excel worksheet from the IRS if you want to see for yourself. (Go to Table 2, “Total income tax share (percentage)”.) If you feel that the top 50% of wage earners should be paying more in taxes, please see item 2, below.
  2. If you feel guilty about not paying enough in taxes, you can always, at any time, make an unconditional gift to the US federal government. The program is called Gifts to the United States. Make a check out to United States Treasury and the government will gladly take your money.
Citizens of this country are way overtaxed, whether at the state level, federal level, or other level. With all respect due to the bishops in Minnesota, raising taxes is not going to solve any social problems anywhere.

The principle is, you can’t tax your way to prosperity. Low taxes promote growth, which promotes jobs. That’s true in Minnesota, just as it is in Florida.

Now don’t get hissy. I figured you’d take it as a compliment that I assumed your were drinking “commercial” beverage rather than the home brew.😉
