convinced of pants #2:

a few days ago another lady of my neighbourhood agreed to publish her way to modesty in this forum; she is 45, married, 3 children; until last year she was used to skirts and dresses, but not aware of the modesty question:

after we talked a few times about female modesty, she decided to change her clothing habits and wear pants on a daily basis; she felt better then knowing her legs would be coverd:

after switching to her daily pants outfit; she happily made this memory photo; the content of a complete drawer could be defeated and disposed; no more pantyhose ! 👍

Cathy~

Your neighborhood friend looks great (though the pink might be too much for me ;)).

Growing up I was a “girly girl.” I LOVED to wear dresses and tights and skirts (knee-length). Once I entered middle school I changed. I would actually tell people that I was allergic to skirts and dresses and they believed me! 😛

During my teenage years I’d experiment with make up (and end up with disasterous results :p) and for a while I gave up.

At the age I’m at now (30) I still love my jeans but I DO wear skirts to work some days. Usually knee-length (maybe a bit longer, but NEVER shorter) and wear subtle make up. Some eye-liner, mascara, light blush, eye shadow, and a nice shade of lipstick.

I am large chested so my tops are a size larger than people would imagine (L–just in case) and I DO cover myself up. My jeans are “flattering” but not tight–that would HURT!!(

Some of the outfits I see young girls wear at church make me go “omg!”

I see nothing objectionable about that outfit, especially for Florida’s climate. (You and my wife have very similar taste in clothes, it seems.)

Kimothy,
i love the kind of shoes you wear at the photo ! these i use to wear a real big part of the year with my long pants; they don’t require any kind of sheer nylon hose, they are worn with my favorite black cotton socks; zero heel, perfect comfort and modesty !

Thanks Cathy2!

Those are my Nike sneakers. I bought them almost a year ago and they are sooo comfortable!! I usually like to wear ankle socks hence why you can’t see them. 😛

Right now I’m wearing an orange top, white “capri” pants (on me, capri are just a smidge past my knees b/c I’m so petite–4’10"), and white platform shoes. That same necklace and my multi hearts earrings. 🙂

finally the spring has begun here in middle europe ! many women in our city spend their time out of the house wearing short skirt or dress, bare legs or very sheer pantyhose 😦

i enjoy the spring too - today in one of my favorite pants, light blue, wide cut legs, white tee-shirt, dark blue low-heeled mary-janes, navy opaque nylon ankle-highs ! 🙂

have a good time !

after making friends in the ukrainian quarter of our town, i continued to talk to them about christian modesty sometimes. i found another lady who changed her clothing habits and agreed to appear in this forum:

she is 48, single, living here since 2008; her dresses used to cover her thigh, but expose her knee:

bilder-hochladen.net/files/thumbs/e6us-8.jpg

she joined me for a shopping tour and decided to switch to her new pants outfit in the future, that looks like this:

bilder-hochladen.net/files/thumbs/e6us-9.jpg

in my opinion the pants could be a little wider, the top a little longer; but a start is made, her legs will be covered from ow on, because she likes the advantage of pants generally since our shopping tour!

together with some pants she bought at least 10 pairs of nylon anhkle-highs (you see them on the second photo above her shoes). the same day a whole content of a pantyhose drawer found its way to the waste:

bilder-hochladen.net/files/thumbs/e6us-a.jpg

she is very happy with her new clothing routine !

I am having trouble finding pants like these in our area (Utah) even at second hand stores. So, what I did (I don’t have time to sew) is buy some long skirts and some modest large tees (I couldn’t find blouses either to match).

They may have these pants in some department stores, but am really too busy even as a senior retiree to do much shopping.

I do have some loose pants that I wear to the regular Masses, but to the traditional Latin Masses we attend about once a month or so, I do wear these skirts.

Unfortunately I do have to wear panty hose with these though because of my full figure but at least I have a modest appearance.

I think that this Ukranian girl looks very good in this outfit. I think only by example can we show proper wear to church, which includes no tight slacks or tops, tube tops or such and never shorts.

Remember that priests are also men, and the last thing we want to do is also to tempt them.:):)🙂

does that mean you have to wear pantyhose even under your pants ???

:eek::eek::eek:

my mom, who is 60+, practices this habit; i could never understand, why she didn’t switch to ankle-highs long ago !

i am able to contribute a very recent example, how effectively an inappropriate female outfit can changed to modesty:

yesterday we arranged a welcome party for ukrainian immigrants in the church garden, which is very nearby my own house. i met there this young lady of 22, who still wore one of the short skirts, that are common in her home country:

bilder-hochladen.net/files/thumbs/e6us-b.jpg

during the day i started a conversation with her, when we found out, that we both have the same dress size. i took her to my house and let her try some of my clothes, that i was willing to give away. i was able to enthuse her about the fact, how benefiting she could look in a pretty pair of dress pants. the result of our try-on:

bilder-hochladen.net/files/thumbs/e6us-c.jpg

her outfit is always the same as before, just having replaced the short skirt by a matching dress pants! A lot of participants of the welcome party congratulated her on the new look. i guees she learned a lesson in modesty yesterday.

her own idea after that was to go shopping today for a pair of black ankle-boots, which make any sheer hosiery disposable (at the 2. photo she’s still wearing her pantyhose, which she characterizes as very uncomfortable under pants!).

So true… I’d be miserable in a dress and heals every Sunday.
And I, on the other hand, LOVE it! 😃

I work in a bakery and I have a uniform… khaki-colored jeans and a navy blue polo shirt and sneakers or slip-resistant shoes. No jewelry (except stud earrings) and I have to tie my hair up to put in a hairnet. Since I live in the sticks (30-minute commute from work or any other big city), I mostly wear jeans and t-shirts at home. So when the opportunity comes to “socialize” (even if it’s just to run to the bank!), I dress up a bit: good jeans, dress boots or sandals with a little heel, a dressy top, earrings that are not just studs, and I brush my hair out.

As for church, I figure if I’d gotten an invitation to the White House for dinner, I’d be dressing far more formally than I already do to approach the Lord’s Supper. For me, dressing up for Mass is a no-brainer!

A little OT: I was also thinking about the posters who say their daughters are fighting wearing a dress or skirt to Mass. My 16-year-old son lives in loose-fitting, faded jeans (not the kind that hang down to his knees–totally not tolerated in our house!), t-shirts with graphics, and sneakers that look only slightly smaller and less flashy than a Mardi Gras parade float (tied shoelaces optional.) But for Mass, it’s dress pants, dress shoes and a shirt with a collar (tie optional.) He has friends who are Protestants who think that he dresses TOO CASUALLY for church (they wear jackets and ties, no exception!) And now that he’s looking for a job, he realizes that dressing in a neat, mature manner makes a favorable impression on prospective employers.

It’s true our society puts an unnecessary amount of emphasis on outward appearance. That’s not going to change. So long as we don’t become obsessed with our appearance (whether it has to do with being modest or showing too much) and strive to project a positive image of a joyful, faithful Christian, there’s nothing wrong with dressing up.

it’s me again with news from our ukrainian quarter in the town:

i’m still busy to look out for clothing habits when i meet new immigrants, who usually settle down in that quarter.

so i met ludmila, 51, who agreed to appaer in this forum as an example. i saw her a few times during june 2010, she usually wore what we call “ukrainian length” meanwhile here: skirts with hem above the knee, showing too much leg, especial when the wearer sits down:

bilder-hochladen.net/files/thumbs/fhmf-2.jpg

when we talked about the modesty topic, she changed her clothing habits within a few days. she acquired a basic equipment of 5 pairs of pants in different colors, that match every situation and make her short skirts completely dispensable. here is one of her new standard outfits:

bilder-hochladen.net/files/thumbs/fhmf-3.jpg

her own rating of the new appearance: people seem to look more into her face since she switched to pants ! i think this effect was even worth the change !

There is NOTHING modest about how that woman is sitting!!! :bigyikes: What is she thinking!!! This horribly immodest!!! There is far more to modesty in how a woman presents herself than what clothing she is wearing. My goodness.

Do you feel wearing makeup and high heels is immodest? If so, that’s interesting, I’d be interested to hear your reasons why. I go without makeup a lot, but I like to ‘‘play’’ with some color at times…like some eye shadows and such…I wear it lightly, and modestly. I don’t think heavy makeup is becoming on a woman, and if it’s heavy, it might appear immodest. Do you think light makeup is immodest? :o
I’m a guy so I see it from a very different perspective, but I’d rather admire the REAL face of a woman than the fake make-up plastered face.

I hope that didn’t sound insulting. Heck, men don’t wear make-up, so why should women have to cover up any defects they may have, or artificially enhance their looks?

Two words: Bad skin. Plus, I like looking pretty. 🙂

Didn’t you know that women are supposed to be hot, or else they fail? 😛

Yeah, because we can? And we like looking pretty. When women do it well, I think the first reaction from even a natural-loving guy like you wouldn’t be “look at all that make-up!” You’d just think the girl looked nice. If you’re married, I think a good rule of thumb is just ask your husband what he likes and go from there.
