I have seen modesty threads but they’re usually directed at modesty for women. What are some modesty tips and tricks for men?

Just like for women: don’t dress in a way that draws unnecessary attention to yourself; instead, show respect for yourself as a child of God.

What do you mean, “tips and tricks”?

The idea of modesty is to avoid providing a near occasion of the sins of lust or coveteousness or jealousy in others or pride in yourself. What that means in exact terms depends very much on the culture you live in.

Here is an interesting quote from the Trappist, Thomas Merton:
Poverty—can bear on things like our opinion, our “style,” anything that tends to affirm us as distinct from others, as superior to others in such a way that we take satisfaction in these peculiarities and treat them as “possessions.” “Poverty” should not make us peculiar. The eccentric man is not poor in spirit.

If you are showing yourself off, you’re not modest. If you’re trying to dress so that others see you care about whether you are appropriate, that may be modest even though you could have worn something less costly. Perhaps you choose what is appropriate over what might be more comfortable for you. The idea is that you don’t make dressing yourself all about you any more than you’d make anything else you do all about you. That is the essence of modesty.

The men I see usually all dress modestly. Only thing I’m not a fan of is when men’s nipples are poking out real bad, it’s like dude throw on an undershirt. But in general I think men need to be commended for their common sense approach to dressing in a dignified way 👍

The one thing that gets me is the tshirts with HUGE cut out armholes. Might as well not bother wearing a shirt.
And skinny jeans must go! They look silly on men.

Yeahh, I had to sell them when I worked in a men´s fashion store…horrible!! They are in every sense immodest, insead of the part of immodesty that means sexual temptating. I never saw anything that ugly and unattractive 😃 😃

At least, it´s the same old story all the time. In 16th century italy, we have the same tight trousers as today, and there were also people complaining about 😉

In my case, modesty serves to not upset people by forcing them to see the bags, sags and wrinkles of a 60 y.o. man… at least the ones not on my face or under my eyes. 😛

Wear your best dress clothes to mass!!!
I prefer simplicity. Nice shirt and trousers, long sleeves and possibly a sweater on top in winter, short sleeves in summer.

I gave up ties when the dress code where I worked no longer required them. I only wear them at weddings, funerals or if I’m going to meet the pope… 🙂

No skinny jeans.
No crocs.
Wear formal clothing for serious occasions.
Don’t go in a t-shirt to mass.
Don’t ever wear a man bun.
Shower regularly.
Put on cologne.
Don’t wear a fedora, unless you’re in a blues band.
Dress to impress.
Stay clean.
Be well groomed.
Trim your beard nicely, if you have one.
When you go out, look good, smell good, feel good.
Don’t wear your heart on your sleeve. Act like a man.
Stay clean cut.
Look fresh.

Matthew 6:16-18 “And when you fast, do not look gloomy like the hypocrites, for they disfigure their faces that their fasting may be seen by others. Truly, I say to you, they have received their reward. But when you fast, anoint your head and wash your face, that your fasting may not be seen by others but by your Father who is in secret. And your Father who sees in secret will reward you.”

And last but not least, have a good sense of humor and be confident. 🙂

When you go to Mass, you go see God himself. Why does he get less extravagance?

Not another men’s modesty thread. But I would suggest not wearing shorts.

I am attached to a monastic community. The monks wear very simple black habits at Mass. Simplicity is a virtue that Benedictines cultivate, and I follow their example.

God looks at the heart, not the clothes. Only humans pay attention to such matters. The offering pleasing to God is a contrite heart.

Note that simplicity does not mean sloppy. I always dress neatly for Mass. Extravagance though, is not my thing.
