okay, i didn’t read the whole thread cause i thought i’d forget this;
i don’t think it’s a sin or anything, but if it makes you uncomfortable to be in her house, inciston meeting her in a local restaurant or outside or something. if she makes you uncomfortable, excuse yourself, but i have friends who are wiccan and their some of the nicest ppl i know. it’s just fine to like them and to be friends with them.
i’ve never seen things like you have, but i think it’s a big religious booster when you see mary :D. i did have my own hallalujah moment tho. i locked myselfin my room for 47 hours and cried for 15 of those hours, nothing but sobbing and begging god to forgive me, it says in the bible that god’s most prided possession is the tears of a repenter.
im proud of you in your faith.
but yes, it’s fine to be around her, just try not to be a part of her religion. 😛

I would be very careful about Wiccans. I really don’t think it is a matter of sin. You could go to her house, however this may put you in danger.

I would advise living a good catholic life, and wear a St. Benedict medal that is blessed properly. You will be protected from demonic entities by the intercession of St. Benedict.

Hi all! firstly, i want to thank everyone for their spectacular advice (and viewpoints!). i thought you might want to know that i also asked Bro. Ignatius Mary from the Padre Pio Center for Deliverance for advice, and this is his reply (its an amazing website, by the way! tons of prayers and info and all sorts of stuff www.saint-mike.org)
God Bless you all!

Question Answered by Bro. Ignatius Mary, OLSM

Dear Bec:

Well, your husband needs to understand that there is nothing “innocent” about witchcraft. Witchcraft is a grave sin, a violation of the First Commandment to worship God alone, and in addition it is an abomination before our Lord. There are only a few sins that God calls an abomination and witchcraft is one of them.

The Catechism has this to say:

2115 God can reveal the future to his prophets or to other saints. Still, a sound Christian attitude consists in putting oneself confidently into the hands of Providence for whatever concerns the future, and giving up all unhealthy curiosity about it. Improvidence, however, can constitute a lack of responsibility.

2116 All forms of divination are to be rejected: recourse to Satan or demons, conjuring up the dead or other practices falsely supposed to “unveil” the future. Consulting horoscopes, astrology, palm reading, interpretation of omens and lots, the phenomena of clairvoyance, and recourse to mediums all conceal a desire for power over time, history, and, in the last analysis, other human beings, as well as a wish to conciliate hidden powers. They contradict the honor, respect, and loving fear that we owe to God alone.

2117 All practices of magic or sorcery, by which one attempts to tame occult powers, so as to place them at one’s service and have a supernatural power over others - even if this were for the sake of restoring their health - are gravely contrary to the virtue of religion. These practices are even more to be condemned when accompanied by the intention of harming someone, or when they have recourse to the intervention of demons. Wearing charms is also reprehensible. Spiritism often implies divination or magical practices; the Church for her part warns the faithful against it. Recourse to so-called traditional cures does not justify either the invocation of evil powers or the exploitation of another’s credulity.

Deuteronomy 18:9-14 says:

Deu 18:9 "When you enter the land which the LORD your God gives you, you shall not learn to imitate the detestable things of those nations.

Deu 18:10 "There shall not be found among you anyone who makes his son or his daughter pass through the fire, one who uses divination, one who practices witchcraft, or one who interprets omens, or a sorcerer,

Deu 18:11 or one who casts a spell, or a medium, or a spiritist, or one who calls up the dead.

Deu 18:12 "For whoever does these things is detestable to the LORD; and because of these detestable things the LORD your God will drive them out before you.

Deu 18:13 "You shall be blameless before the LORD your God.

Deu 18:14 "For those nations, which you shall dispossess, listen to those who practice witchcraft and to diviners, but as for you, the LORD your God has not allowed you to do so.

We are ABSOLUTELY forbidden to practice witchcraft. We are not to imitate people who do. We are not to associate with people who do.

I would advise that you not go to this person’s house and to not accept “gifts” from her of any kind. These gifts can and probably do have spells upon them. Items for “protection” have protection spells. Do not eat food prepared by this person as witches will contaminate the food with items to form a spell or a curse. Some of these items can be disgusting.

Your husband needs to understand the danger here. If your husband’s best friend is into this too, then that friendship should be terminated.

You mention being “part of the family”. Is this referring to someone other than your husband’s “best friend.”

In any event, you and your husband ought to pray the prayer to Renounce Ancestral Sins, the Hedge of Protection, and the Breaking Spells and Curses all found in our prayer catalog linked below.

You both need to sever relationships with this woman and any others who are into witchcraft. Do not allow this woman to touch you again or to come into your house or your property or car.

Any items that are in your house that were given to you by this witch, or given by this witch to someone to give to you, should be destroyed (not merely thrown away, but destroyed and then thrown away). It does not matter what these items might be, whether or not they are expensive or cheap. They can be books, flower vases, dishes, housewares, artwork, little charms, herbs and other food items, whatever. It all must go.

Then you need to bless and cleanse your house. A priest can bless your house, and there is also a specific house cleansing ritual in our prayer catalog.

All this might seem extreme, but it is not. I have more than 20 years experience in dealing with things like this and have had clients who were demonized because of things like this.

Thus, all this is proactive setting up good spiritual hygiene for your house and life.

God Bless,
Bro. Ignatius Mary

I am very happy that you spoke to Bro. Ignatius Mary. His advice it wonderful, and educated. And I pray that your husband will respect it, and do what is needed for the both of you. And I pray that this woman will be convicted of the Truth, and come to be a follower of Christ Jesus, Who wants her to be counted as one who accepts His Salvation.

Hi guys! 🙂 firstly, im new to the website, i absolutely LOVE IT! that being short and sweet, im hoping for some advice on a particular dilemma from my fellow Catholic brothers and sisters…
so, my husband’s best friends mother (who is the “family” friend) is VERY wiccan. shes now about 50 yrs old and has been a witch for i would guess a good 90% of her life. now, i have mixed feelings about this because as a person i love her and respect her, however(!) there are times when i cannot go to her house. its like i feel this incredible urge to jump up and RUN out of the house because it gives me a weird “i-need-to-leave” feeling. besides that, i’ve had some weird experiences in my own past that to this day freak me out: i.e. when i was converting back to Catholicism from being (or trying to be) muslim, i was extremely distraught (understatement!!) and it felt like a true fight for my soul between heaven and hell, tracing the edge of the precipice of despair, and *in my minds eye *i saw all these demons swirling and writhing around me trying to keep me from going back to the Truth and then Our Lady stood above them all and was reaching out Her hand to lift me out. (really, i am not crazy!) i prayed the whole Rosary 4 times that night and finally fell asleep in peace. (and this is connected to what i was originally posting lol i promise!) so anyways, obviously im VERY Catholic now lol and havent had any such experiences since then, however, i have seen in this woman’s eyes something strange, that reminds me of those demons i saw. she sometimes goes into “witch-mode” for lack of a better explanation, its almost like a weird momentary trance, and i remember vividly that when she looked at me in the midst of this strange moment that it wasnt her, it didnt seem human. it was EXTREMELY freaky. like there wasnt the glow a person should have in her eyes or the sparkle that she gets when shes happy. theres a few times ive seen her in this mode, the first being the first time i met her, about a month after my husband and i got married and we were home for the holidays. we thought i was pregnant and so when she offered us wine i politely declined. my husband went into the kitchen to talk with her (he told me this part later) and she said, shes pregnant isnt she? he said we werent sure. so i was heading into the kitchen, she met me on the way, put her hand on my stomach and gave me this horrible intense look (kinda like the one i mentioned above, only this gave me shivers up my spine!) and said, “you are. its a boy.”. FREAKY. she was SOOOOO convinced that she was right. she said you dont need to go to the store to get a test. my hubbie was right there agreeing with what she was saying  (mind you, she has this weird way with her “sons” (being her actual biological sons and her “adopted” sons who are her biological sons friends if you get what i mean) and theyd wait on her hand and foot if she asked them to, more so than their OWN biological parents…😦 ) we did end up getting a test and i wasnt pregnant (haha). she also gave us a basket of “gathered things” thats not just an ordinary basket which also had a satchel of wiccan protective stuff that my husband brought with him to iraq (we were just friends back then) and i was extremely uneasy with it being in my (VERY) Catholic house. luckily, i found a Catholic way to destroy occult items and i did it when my husband was away on military training (i know it was sneaky, but i put the basket in the rubbish and he took it out and i put it back and he didnt say anything, so better forgotten (and nonexistant), right?). she also told me that i am “under the protection” now because i am part of the family. i was smiling with one of those  moments inside saying i dont need YOUR “protection” because i have Jesus and Mary! i never go to her house without my Rosary or blessing myself with holy water. now i pray for Christ to destroy anything that is evil and occult that has been placed upon my husband, me, us, our families and friends. im more at peace when i dont have to be there…

my question to all of you is, what do i do? visit? dont visit? what is the RIGHT thing to do?? the Christian thing to do?
thanks for your help and i hope i made enough sense!
Love and peace in Christ!🙂
becks:)
Hello

I haven’t posted with you yet, so I will introduce myself. My name is Christopher and I am fairly new to the forums. I live in a town that has a particularly high Wiccan population and I know quite a few that I encounter daily, some of which I would consider to be friends, of course with the intent of their salvation.

Your question is
my question to all of you is, what do i do? visit? dont visit? what is the RIGHT thing to do?? the Christian thing to do?
Lets first take a look at what God says about the topic…
Then one of the Pharisees asked Him to eat with him. And He went to the Pharisee’s house, and sat down to eat. Luke 7:36
and
While Jesus was having dinner at Matthew’s house, many tax collectors and “sinners” came and ate with him and his disciples. Matthew 9:10
This shows us our Lord Jesus was more than alright with eating with unrepentent sinners and going to their house when he was invited. Paul expresses this biblical truth
If any of those who do not believe invites you to dinner, and you desire to go, eat whatever is set before you, asking no question for conscience’ sake. 1 Corinthians 10:27
So we can affirm that, in general it is OKAY to eat/dine with those that do not hold the faith. It can be argued that, in general, it is even encouraged in The Apostle’s letter to the church in Corinth.

Should you go?

This woman (and possibly her house) are dangerous to those outside of the Church. As a Christian you have the all-powerful Father.
You are of God, little children, and have overcome them, because He who is in you is greater than he who is in the world. John 4:4
If you go to this woman’s house, do so out of love for her and faith that the Father will protect you. The primary reason that you go should be to glorify the Lord in this woman’s salvation. Trust completely in His love to work through your words and actions. Trust fully in His ability to protect you against anything that you may encounter.

Don’t worry about bringing your rosary beads or water, they won’t change the situation one way or the other. Simply trust in the Lord that He will guide you and protect you. Pray that He will guide this lost sheep back to the narrow path. Pray that He will empty your words out and speak through you to her lost soul.

If you trust in the Lord that He will protect you, go to this woman’s house. If you are already experiencing doubts, the enemy might already be working and I suggest that you stay away from this woman and her property.
My prayer is not that you take them out of the world but that you protect them from the evil one. John 17:15
His love

Christopher

Though i DO understand that Jesus sat and dined with sinners and such, which was the reason of one of my original wonderings as to what the best thing to do was, i would listen to the advice of Bro. Ignatius Mary. This does not mean that i will not pray for this woman and these people that are in the ‘clique’ shall we say, and im sure that Jesus would understand. i dont think He would want me to put myself willingly and knowingly in danger. the Our Father says,"…and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil." i think that means to keep us from temptation and occassions of sin or places that are bad for our well-being (something maybe like to guide us from a bad path or situation and those that we might put ourselves in as well), and to keep us from any danger therein. i think about what missionaries do in places that are full of black magick (island tribes, africa, etc.), who knowingly put themselves in “dark” places. i believe that they are called to be in those places and they have the Sacraments closer at hand, besides that they are probably more “spiritually fit” than the average lay person. that doesnt mean not to strive for those things, or that they arent readily available to us, but i think it wise for myself and especially my husband because he isnt a practicing Christian strong in his faith (he is against organized religion ever since he came back from being in iraq when he was in the army) and he takes a bit of this and a bit of that from other religions (which do have elements of truth in them, though as a whole they are not true) and so i think that he is more susceptable to attack and being under the deception that wicca is good because he is not aware of that which is going on and very real around him. in this war against evil and darkness, believe there are some who are called to be on the frontlines and others who are their “invisible” backup artillery support. it doesnt mean that im not fighting, or that its in any less of an effective way, it just means im fighting in a different place than those on the forefront.
this does not mean that i do not believe the Father (indeed, the Most Holy Trinity as well as all of Heaven) is protecting me when i go (well, in the past) to her house, however, i will stay away from places that are dark and occasions to sin, whether or not *I INTEND TO SIN *(which i obviously wouldnt want to happen). its so easy in this house to get into things without wanting or intending to. (i.e. when i had a paradoxical reaction to some meds i started the same day we were at her house and she used reiki on me to even it out and make it better. it seemed good because it worked, though i was confused as to if it was truly good or not, but now i know that its NOT good and it could have opened up a door that NEEDS to be shut.(the saint-mike website has all sorts of info on the “new age” stuff and how its occultism even though it seems “good”).
the best thing that i can do in this given situation is to not be there and to sever ties with her. that does not mean that i will “abandon” her spiritually, even if i sever ties physically, i will be praying very very hard for her because she is a very lost and extremely broken and unhappy person and i believe that she needs help in learning about Jesus’ love for her. and i fully believe that that is the best thing that i can do for her OUT OF LOVE FOR HER AS A FELLOW CHILD OF GOD; spiritual works of mercy. if she received the grace to come to Christ, then yes, i would support her and help her and have a physical relationship with her once again, but its faaaar too dangerous at the moment to be there. its almost like something trying to swallow me in and i REFUSE to budge from Christ. at the same time, i fear my own weakness, which isnt good because i need to trust completely in Christ our Lord.

God will get me through every situation that comes my way, though i would prefer to not be the one to blame for putting myself in horrible situations. i know that if i end up in a given situation out of no fault of my own, just the way the cookie crumbles, then God is surely with me. that doesnt mean He isnt with me through all the things i do that are dumb or of my own fault (for better or worse), but i dont think that God would want me to put myself in this situation because of the effect it has on my own spiritual well-being (and that of my husband): its very oppressive there and negative, it makes me chaotic on the inside and confuses me as to good or bad (like is she good or is she bad? i see her as intrinsically good because God created all things good, but her actions and words and the way her house “feels” isnt good or appears to be good on the surface but isnt on the inside(by the way, an interesting note: Bro. Ignatius Mary was talking about her food and cooking. i am the only one who notices that her food is sour and bitter. everyone else (those who see no harm in wicca that are around her and are deceived) thinks its the best thing next to sliced bread! she makes this salad dressing and it reminds me of bile (i know, thats gross, but i cant think of another way to describe it).)i don’t believe the Lord would want me to be in such a place that causes such emotions and things. its a feeling like everytime i think i should stay away that tries to get patched over from her side to try to convince me that shes good and loves me (if that doesnt make sense let me know and ill explain), but her actions belie her words. shes VERY manipulative.
and lately ive been thinking (actually for a long time) that we need to get away. the longer the distance the less proximity of seeing her. if we are close its going to be harder to keep my husband away.
thats what im worried about more now that i now what to do because he doesnt understand. he thinks that its as easy as something of a matter of difference of opinion and beliefs. and i think he does think im over-paranoid and crazy, which isnt fair on my part because its not like im saying things for no reason or without just cause or because of no experience. i had plenty of experience when i delved into spirituality and thats allllll i needed to know. i dont NEED TO KNOW more, the only thing i need to know is how to protect my family and house and everything else from the effects of her spells and whatever else might be on us or that she might do in her “goodness” (hence www.saint-mike.org)).

id really appreciate everyones prayers if they dont mind! i need to get some prayer warriors up and on this cause cos i need a HUGE miracle!
God Bless!
Pax in Christ!

Why is it necessary to visit her house? Tell your husband that you would rather not go and find something to make yourself busy with. You don’t need that sort of thing in your life.

medallionsnijme, if you don’t mind my asking, how are things between your husband and yourself. When approaching this subject, is he willing to discuss this with you, or does he just blow you off. And, what have you told him, what does he say?

I am praying that your marriage is strong. I am praying that the love and respect the two of you have for each other will not be hindered by your decision to break all ties with her. I am paying that he doesn’t turn on you and take her side over you.

If the questions in the first paragraph were too personal, forgive me. I ask out of concern, but I certainly do not need the answers. I was looking for an update into how things were going for you and he, and what steps you have taken, and how he has reacted to them. Answer if you choose. I will not be upset at all if you choose to keep that information to yourself. I am not trying to pry. I just pray and hope that he doesn’t hurt your heart, as I pray that his heart and soul will not be hurt by this woman’s influence on him. the 3 of you are in my prayers.

Did it ever occur to anyone that this Wiccan we’re talking about might rather not have a visitor who felt the was the OP does? If it were me, I just as soon she stayed home rather than come to mine and be a jumble of nerves, scared, paranoid and reading who-knows-what into my every more and even my decor. Sheesh. I mean, the OPs feelings are hardly conductive to even a casual friendship, so why pretend otherwise. I’m sure the Wiccan would appreciate the honesty and the fact that you’re saving her the time and effort of engagine in a fruitless exchange.

God Bless!

You don’t need to explain yourself to me or anyone of the rest of us, just simply ask God to guide your decision. Ask Him if He wants you to go into this woman’s house. If He does, do it in faith. If He doesn’t, do it in faith. Don’t go, just because you feel that you should and don’t NOT go just because you’re afraid to. Whichever He tells you to do, don’t be afraid of these things. They are certainly nothing to mess with, but you are a daughter of the King. Greater is in you…

however(!) there are times when i cannot go to her house. its like i feel this incredible urge to jump up and RUN out of the house because it gives me a weird “i-need-to-leave” feeling. besides that, i’ve had some weird experiences in my own past that to this day freak me out: i.e. when i was converting back to Catholicism from being (or trying to be) muslim, i was extremely distraught (understatement!!) and it felt like a true fight for my soul between heaven and hell, tracing the edge of the precipice of despair, and *in my minds eye *i saw all these demons swirling and writhing around me trying to keep me from going back to the Truth and then Our Lady stood above them all and was reaching out Her hand to lift me out. …obviously im VERY Catholic now lol and havent had any such experiences since then, however, i have seen in this woman’s eyes something strange, that reminds me of those demons i saw. she sometimes goes into “witch-mode” for lack of a better explanation, its almost like a weird momentary trance, and i remember vividly that when she looked at me in the midst of this strange moment that it wasnt her, it didnt seem human. it was EXTREMELY freaky. like there wasnt the glow a person should have in her eyes or the sparkle that she gets when shes happy.
That alone is extremely disturbing. And I realize this is something of an old topic at this point, but staying far away (at least for the most part) is certainly a very good idea. But at the same time, never stop praying for her salvation.
she also gave us a basket of “gathered things” thats not just an ordinary basket which also had a satchel of wiccan protective stuff…
I truly wonder what would happen if YOU were to give HER a basket full of sacramentals. Green Scapulars and Holy Water being top of the list. Heck, those two alone might be more than enough… forget the basket. Plant green scapulars inside items in her house, and sprinkle various objects with holy water… alright, on second thought, this probably isn’t the best idea in the world, perhaps a bit too confrontational. (I just really really really like the idea in theory.) 😃 Because depending on her reaction to the blessed objects, that would probably tell you for sure if there was any significant level of demonic activity involved.

This is probably a better version of that idea, if you’re up for it: aside from constantly praying for her salvation, give her gifts, such as an oven mitt, or a pillow, or something that you can physically attach a green scapular to, preferably inside and not easily removable. And maybe try to keep giving her gifts like this, around Christmas, Easter, or her birthday, or whenever… don’t stop unless she very clearly becomes upset and bothered by it. Green scapulars are absolutely amazing sacramentals… for what it’s worth, you could even just make sure that you and your husband carry one with you if ever have to go over, for whatever reason. :twocents:

Swan, why do you believe as you do?
It’s a long story and not a pretty one. In a nutshell, I’m a former Christian (Catholic and Protestant) who through personal experience and reason has finally concluded that I can no longer accept Christianity (or the other “revealed” relgions). I have struggled with it for decades and am somewhat saddened by my conclusion, but it is what it is. Much of my experience as a person with bipolar disorder influenced my belief (or lack thereof).

sorry im so late in responding! i didnt realize there were more messages! oops:)

i dont mind you asking me about my married life, thats fine by all means! (im really happy just to have people who are Catholic to talk to about everything God has put in my life! its nice to have fellowship:))things between my husband and myself are alright. were still sort of new-ish being that weve only been married since december '06 (it got blessed in june '06, so whichever you consider as our anniversary lol). we are very different people, though. we are similar enough to get along but different enough that sometimes its very frustrating. especially when it comes to faith. im trying to root out of my life those relationships and happenings or things that arent conductive to being a good Catholic, and he sees nothing wrong with them (like listening to angry rock or heavy metal (megadeth, korn, and metallica are on the top of my want to destroy list, next to the fact that they tweek my noise nerve something fierce!), this given relationship with the witch, drinking to get drunk, etc. (stupid puerile stuff)). i think that he lacks maturity in certain aspects where i have already had enough experiences (like drinking for “fun” to get drunk, for example). so far as this family friend situation, i could bet you that this would cause WWIII! i mean, for example, there was a time (and mind you, this has happened MANY times and i abhorr it!) where he was coming from her house to pick me up from his parents house so we could go home. i was going to clean because my mom was coming to visit. on the way home, we also backtrack to the area where this woman lives, and he tells me that her son and a bunch of their friends were over for dinner and that they were waiting on us. mind you, he didnt tell me this. i told him i thought we were going home, that i NEEDED to go home because of my mom coming in a couple days and i told him previously i wasnt going to put it off until the last minute. he had gotten really mad and said that well, he was going to dinner and hed have someone drop him off after. fine. whatever. i mean its happened a bunch of times where its like we have to drop everything we are doing to beckon to her whim and call. now i learned from growing up with my mother dealing with similar situations with her in-laws that nobodys going to control MY family. my family makes its own decisions, whether or not it “obeys” the “hivemind” (haha). i suppose more than that, she considers him her “best son” because hes more conscientious towards her than her other actual children or her “adopted” children. i think that he has an extremely tight bond with her because he feels that he can talk to her about anything, especially the things that hes not comfortable talking about with his parents. (they are, as my mom calls them, the salt of the earth. they are very good people, my inlaws, and i think underneath it all, he knows its wrong (like everything that he cant share with his family) but he finds “freedom” in this woman because shes more liberal and “freethinking”; like denial of the truth. on top of this, shes also very manipulative (if i havent said this already) and also very commanding, so when she says something its like a metal fist (if that makes sense). nobody wants to double-cross her.

its a very real possibility that he could turn on me. he says that he places nobody over me (except God, i hope!), but sometimes in relation to her, i question that. and especially because he doesnt see the harm, thats the bad point (err, the other bad one?)

ive decided to do a novena of Holy Communions and see what happens after that. then i will say what needs to be said. what do you think? im asking Mother Mary, St. Padre Pio and especially St. Benedict (patron against witchcraft)(and boy you should see the size of the Jubilee Medal i have of St. Benedict! its got to be about 5 inches or more across lol figured i needed a LOT of help!)and St. Michael.

anyways, ive told him why im not comfortable in her house, that sometimes i feel that i need to leave. he tries to assure me that she wouldnt let something bad happen. i argue that shes human. he says that she protected him in iraq, that shes protecting her sons who are overseas in the army, i still ask him, do you REALLY think its her? (seriously, here!) shes HUMAN. i dont know what it is but i think shes got him around her finger. AND he likes being the one whom everyone can turn to, according to her hes a “healer”. i don tknow, shes just loaded him up with a bunch of garbage, and some of it in essence might hold truthful characteristics according to his personality, but its rubbish!

i thank you very much JesusNCherie for your prayers and support! i cant ever thank you enough!

as to swan, i say that any friendship like this where you are tossed and turned between good and evil should be avoided. ive tried to be her friend, and the only thing i can do is pray for her very hard. ive had lots of people in my life that i never de-friended per se, but that i had to leave because of one reason or another. that doesnt mean i dont love them, it means i cannot be near them. it means that i pray for them because i love them.

i will write more later, at the moment i need to go because im late meeting my friend! ah!🙂
talk to you all soon!

Hi guys! :)
so, my husband’s best friends mother (who is the “family” friend) is VERY wiccan. shes now about 50 yrs old and has been a witch for i would guess a good 90% of her life…
It is the witch that is in trouble not you.
She needs help.
Go convert her. It’s your Christian obligation.

I disagree. This witch could be dangerous, and the OP needs to pay attention to that little voice when she is uncomfortable in the house.

Only God Himself can convert a dangerous pagan. Do not walk into a den of wolves.

Well, I believe that magic is dangerous as long as you believe it is dangerous. I do not deny the reality of magic altogether because we read:
St Thomas Aquinas:
I answer that, Some have asserted that witchcraft is nothing in the world but an imagining of men who ascribed to spells those natural effects the causes of which are hidden. But this is contrary to the authority of holy men who state that the demons have power over men’s bodies and imaginations, when God allows them: wherefore by their means wizards can work certain signs. Now this opinion grows from the root of unbelief or incredulity, because they do not believe that demons exist save only in the imagination of the common people, who ascribe to the demon the terrors which a man conjures from his thoughts, and because, owing to a vivid imagination, certain shapes such as he has in his thoughts become apparent to the senses, and then he believes that he sees the demons. But such assertions are rejected by the true faith whereby we believe that angels fell from heaven, and that the demons exist, and that by reason of their subtle nature they are able to do many things which we cannot; and those who induce them to do such things are called wizards.
But practically, for Christians, a magician is, firstly, a neighbour in trouble, secondly, a battlefield where they are to prove to the world God’s power. We say: CREDO IN VNVM DEVM PATREM OMNIPOTENTEM and we must act as we believe, because the world may be unsure about these words. God sees us as His children, His omnipotence is somehow at our disposal too.

To the OP, the Holy Communion Novena is a very good idea. I only suggest that during this novena, you go to confession if it’s been more than a month since you have last gone. Prayer and loving your husband will get you farther than arguing every time. Remember to pray before broaching the subject with him. And, if you can manage to, when you know he is over there, pray a Rosary at that moment.

I think you’re doing well. The three of you are in my prayers, and will continue to be so. Please let us know how things are progressing.

Love in Christ,
Cherie
