Exactly. It’s a just stupid game. If she wants to play and is good enough, who cares?

Actually I agree with what MattinTex said, NO kids should be playing football.
‘’’’

I agree. My son is disabled and competes in martial arts. Women and men spar routinely, and the women beat the men as often as not. But the sparring is carefully monitored by highly trained MA masters and major physical damage is rare. Two sparring partners, strict rules on what’s permissible, 2 minutes of sparring, 3 (count 'em 3) judges standing just feet away watching every second of play and any undue force and the entire match is over and the undue force punished. Football on the other hand seems to be an out of control sport with far reaching permanent brain damage and other physical effects. It occupies too much attention in schools but I leave it to families to make their own decisions.

I find it telling that many professional football players are now saying they are steering their own children out of the sport and regret the day they ever got involved. I recall seeing one retired pro player saying he limped around the block for his exercise now. When asked if he had memory gaps from the brain damage caused by the head trauma suffered in football he replied to the extent that he “thinks” he only forgets a few things a week, but its hard to remember anything anymore. Sounds like a morally upright sport to me.

Personally, I wouldn’t let my dog play football, much less my son or daughter. But its a family’s choice. But permanent brain damage shouldn’t be a “boys only” ruling.

I have a friend who’s daughter plays on the HS wrestling team with boys. She beats the you know what out of most of them. She placed 2nd place in stateside regionals behind a young man who beat her by a point.

I’d say wrestling is about as much contact sport as you can get. Believe me, none of the men are “turned on” by her contact when she’s done. They look forward to a lot of ice and pain killers. She graduates this year and hopes to get admitted into the Navy where one of her brothers already serves. She’s in better shape and stronger than many of her male peers.

I’ve seen fat firefighters who had no chance in h*ll of carrying me down a ladder without a stroke. And I know a police cadet who is 118 lbs and can drag a 400 lb weight 200 feet and beat out the men in her class (lifelong dream, she’s been training since junior high). Time to be pragmatic.

Heaven forbid women were able to excel in a common sport. It’s bad enough they are educated and have become CEO’s of multi million dollar companies, scientists, engineers, telephone line workers, professors, mathematicians, inventors, innovators. Goodness knows after they were granted to right to “vote”, it started to go downhill from there. They started to want to drive a car, buy a car, own a car, buy their own home, invest in their 401K, all without “permission” from their husbands or the government. Instead of going to college to get their “MRS” degree, they decided to start a career, make their “own” money and then settle down. Very wise in this economy.

Geez louise, they want to play hockey, football, basketball, baseball over softball. They should be happy with croquet and badminton. Oh, and boxing, can you believe it, boxing:eek: And now our federal government said they can be in the front lines in combat. I don’t know, with an AR15 going off they might break a nail.🤷

much a do about nothing. If a girl/woman has the physical, mental and desire to play football, she should be able to play, period. She should be drafted based upon her abilities to play the game and play it well, just like the boys.

Reminds me of a wise Priest I used to know, who was head of a Catholic high school, back about 30 yrs ago. It seems a female student became pregnant, and the school board decided to suspend her based on her moral conduct. This wise Priest asked if the father of the child was a student at the Catholic high school. The answer was yes. He called the parents of both parties, the school board for a meeting. The school board had the Diocese blessing to suspend the girl. The Priest on the other hand, said, “Well, then we must suspend the boy as well.” The school board was shocked…whatever for? The Priest said, he is just as culpable, is he not?" But…but…the parents of the boy said, he is the quarterback for the football team, he has a game on Saturday, you can’t…that’s not fair…" The school board chimed in and agreed with the boys parents, The Priest said, “well, I can’t help that, rules are rules. Either they are both suspended or they both stay in school.” Imagine that, it’s the “girls” fault and she pays the price for the pregnancy and the boy goes on to win one for the team. Rah, Rah. Long story short, they both stayed in school and were not suspended. I believe it was because of football. Go figure.🤷
Catholic in the last 2000 years have accomplishments martching anything women have achieved in the last 50 years.
Even in our time the largest EWTN was started by a women.
In an error where thinking mothers are stearing their sons away from football because of head injuries
Is this something I want my daughter.
Although I played football.Blue collar kids didn’t know any better.
I didn’t allow my son play.
My daughter hated sports except gymnastics

👍 Yes to all of this.

I don’t have a problem with there existing institutions, such as football, where boys are allowed to congregate and be boys on their own. without girls being a part of it.

It is not that there are no girls that are capable of playing football. The masculine bonding that takes place in football, and the development of masculine values that can take place in such gender-specific traditions such as football are something that are good in developing a boy’s character.
There is absolutely no reason that girls need to be into everything that boys are into. There are precious few places left where boys can congregate together as boys, just on their own. Football is one of those few places left that can still pass as a boys club.

Women have proven to the world in the last few generations that there is nothing that they cannot do. They can run the world, for sure. There is not shortage of boys too, shacked up in their basements with their video games and their beer, who are not willing to let women do just that, if that is what they want.
Football is one of those sports that affirms a boys masculinity and encourages boys to be aggressive in socially acceptable ways. It encourages men to be men, and teaches them the values that will get them out of those basements and into positions of leadership, where they will take charge and be encouraged to do just that.

Women lack for nothing in our societies.
Except for men— which is to say those males of the species that are capable of being responsible for them and their families.

But men are not born that way. They are made that way.

Football and other such boys clubs where testosterone and masculinity are encouraged are what make boys into men.

Catholic schools are still aware of this.

It’s just a game. 🙂

Boys and girls wrestling with each other? I assume in the teenager years? No on sees a problem with this? Our society has gone completely mad.

When you see two boys wrestling, do you think about it as being sexual? Of course not, it’s a SPORT.

Our fallen culture sees fake equality as a god. That is our idol.

Funny you should mention that. There was a group of boys who wanted to play middle school volley ball in one area catholic school. There is no boys volleyball league, so they were allowed to play against the girls teams. It was one of the most fun matches of the year when they played my daughter’s team! I think that was a good decision…and I think it worked out great for everyone that they weren’t put in their tidy little gender boxes and that was that.

If a girl is good enough to compete in football, then let her play.
It is not about being equal in ability. I know that is contrary to feminism and our cultural worship of equality or sameness.

It makes sense to make a distinction between genders when it really IS a distinction…women can bear children, men cannot.

But when it comes to sports, both genders are given the physical attributes and ability to play them.
If this girl is the same size and has the same ability as the boys on the team, there is no logical reason to not let her play. It is wonderful for a girl’s esteem to excel at a sport like this and get this exercise that she loves.

Not letting this girl play is indeed oppressing her, and it is wrong.
Silly feminism. Pure and simple.

It’s got nothing to do with feminism.
It’s about being fair among students and athletes.
As far as I can tell, they don’t have a female football team. Are they not allowing this girl to play just because it’s a “contact” sport? But…why and who decided the girls are not allowed to play a contact sport? She’s obviously physically* able* to do it. I loved playing football when I was young and played it with my brothers and other girls all the time.

It’s got nothing to do with being the same or different in gender.
She’s good at a sport, she’s better than most of the boys on the team, therefore she should play.
It’s not as though she’s asking to have a sex-change operation for heaven’s sake.
It’s SPORTS!

These are old, antiquated rules that should have been updated decades ago!
Sure, maybe some girls are content to be cheerleaders, or play “softer” sports like…badminton. But GOD gave some girls fantastic athletic ability and strength and agility and this girl excels and loves this sport and it makes no sense whatsoever to not let her play.

Perhaps those in charge just don’t like to see a girl being better at something than a boy.
Please cite some studies (especially ones focused on players just starting puberty) that have been done on mixed gender sports that indicate that a female student is not at increased risk of being injured or having negative health issues when playing on a mixed gender team for a football team or for a team in a similar sport. The cry of “they’re just being sexist” isn’t very effective without support proving they are just being sexist.

I can’t seem to open this article. Anyone else having the same problem?

When you see two boys wrestling, do you think about it as being sexual? Of course not, it’s a SPORT.
Wrestling is segregated according to weight. It doesn’t account for physical differences between boys and girls of course, where girls as a rule just do not have the upper body strength of boys post-puberty.
Wrestling of course is inherently non-sexual. Adrenaline is the hormone more associated with the fight or flight response, and the tremendous physical exertion involved in wrestling does not really leave much room for sexual passions to be aroused.

Still, it is good that most wrestling recognizes that segregation according to sex is the fairest for both boys and girls to get the most our of the sport.

It does not matter what I see. I would be willing to bet a pretty penny what 95% of 16 year old boys, upon finding themselves wrestling a girl would think about it as something sexual. As for football, if girls playing became widespread there would be much sexual harassment ( of a very physical nature) going on in the game at all times. Many boys who play are not saints, I can tell you what goes on in the pike if bodies fighting for a fumble is not always nice. What goes on at the line of scrimmage between lineman would likewise not be nice. It is idiocy to pretend this stuff will not happen.

Boys and girls competing together in a contact sport is madness.

The liberal mind says if something can be done then it must be done. If it seems unequal or unfair then it must be wrong and society must be changed.

Explain to me how a minor female child can be deemed competent enough to “know” the health risks associated with engaging in sports on a male level but is deemed not competent enough when it comes to civil and criminal law, health care (except, for some reason, getting an abortion), finances, and living on her own without a legal guardian.
If the “males” are bright enough to know and are “minors” and mommy and daddy sign off on it, what’s the difference?🤷

Abortion is not part of this thread…geez louise

You know, I think die hard feminists would agree with you on this. 😉
