Apparently your husband, like so many young LDS, knows little about his religion. Have your husband read this review from FARMS (a Mormon research and apologetics group associated with BYU) on the book “In Sacred Loneliness - the Plural Wives of Joseph Smith”. The review of the book is very favorable. The LDS Church does not try to deny that Joseph Smith practiced polygamy (it is detailed in the History of the Church). Why should your husband deny it?

Has he ever read D&C 132?

Paul
Thanks Paul, I printed that off so he can read it. Don’t know how i will give it to him though. He gets very defensive…

He said Joseph didn’t practice it. He said I was reading anti-Mormon websites. Of course he says that anytime I ask a question about his religion. Thanks for hearing me though! 😉
You are most welcome Alisha.

I suggest you gather as much information you can from both members and non-members. This site is a good place too. After this make your own deductions.

truthsilence, I want to ask you something in all sincerity and in a spirit of learning and wanting to understand the Trinity principal.

How do you explain the voice from heaven, the Holy Ghost in the form of a dove AND Jesus Christ being baptised all at the same time? This kinda supports the mormon belief of 3 distinct beings…
Hi web2009,

I understand. I was LDS too, for fifteen years. The Trinity was a difficult thing for me too. I thought what I was being taught somehow made more sense. Now I realize it did not. In fact just the opposite.

God has revealed to us that there are three Persons in the Godhead. Not three Gods.

An explanation I really like is found in a book called “Theology and Sanity” by Frank Sheed. If you were to ask each Person “Who are you?”, each would respond “Father” Son" or “Holy Spirit”. The Father is not the Son, the Son is not the Holy Spirit, and so on. So there are three Persons. Now, if you were to ask each Person “What are you?”, each Person would answer “God”.

God IS an eternal relationship of three Persons. With the help of the Holy Spirit, we come to an understanding of this.

Yes, it is still a mystery, (we’re talking about God here), 🙂 still, the knowledge we do have is trustworthy, through the scriptures, through Christ’s own words.

God bless!

Tami

Well I disagree that anyone can “loose” sin, but God, but you still haven’t answered what you “bind”? But thanks for the response! 🙂
Read the article? Read the scripture references. What do they tell us?

You’re welcome. 🙂

Thanks Tami,

Im so grateful to have come across this forum. Nice to hear of somebody else who was also part of LDS and moved on. Never thought I could find anything remotely as intellectually stimulating as the mormon church. Well I’ve found so much more with the catholic church. There is soooo much to learn, I’m excited and inspired.

You’re very welcome! 🙂

I am excited for you. There is soooo much to learn! Enjoy the journey. And if it hasn’t been recommended to you, I suggest finding a parish and sitting in on RCIA. Wow, experience the season of Lent, Holy Week, Easter.

Peace to you. You’re in my prayers,
Tami

As regarding theosis, the Catholic catechism says

scborromeo.org/ccc/p122a3p1.htm
This can only be rightly understood when invoking the authority of Christ gave His fledgling church… the Catholic Church. The Magisterium functions today as it has since the beginning by ensuring teachings are kept free of error (under the guidance of the Holy Spirit).

I know LDS claim authority, but that authority was given to Christ’s church and a man with a story of a vision in a copse of trees can not supplant it.

Which explains why what you have quoted could at first seem troubling. It is too bad you did not put as much effort into your own catechesis as you have in exploring your new faith.

Rebecca,

Can you show me where the Catholic Church teaches that Genesis is NOT the word of God. I have looked and can not find it.

Maybe I’m missing something.

I can understand why they would do that though, as it clearly teaches a different gospel than the one you teach, but I just can’t find where they say that.

MEgus
I never said any of what you wrote here. I am sorry you are not able to understand scripture.

This is not research at all. It is a point of view about research. You didn’t even look at it did you?
I said I read it. And yes, it is taking research and twisting it. Sort of like you do scripture. Nonsense that is a waste of time.

Hey Web, my husband is Mormon and he said that his church doesn’t believe in polygamy. He said that when people started practicing polygamy, that the church leaders kicked them out. Is this true?
That is the current stance. From the 1840’s to 1890 polygamy was an integral part of Mormon doctrine. From 1890 to about 1903 it was practiced underground. The Mormon splinters you see on TV, such as the FLDS in TX, split from the main Mormon church. They believe the doctrine of polygamy still, and practice it.

Today, Mormons still have this doctrine in their chuch, but do not practice it. Those that do, and are caught or confess, are excommunicated.

If you do that, and show evidence that you have done that, and think there is a problem with THEIR position, I will be more than happy to respond if we also agree to have a genuine CIVIL discussion without insults about cult membership, ad hominems and irrational attacks and sloganeering against my church.

**Hi mf, 👋

Since your group is what every educated person in the world even a Psychology major would call a cult, why do you deny your group that name? 🤷 That is like real Protestant saying they weren’t Heretics. Denying a thing that is true and provable doesn’t make it any less true or provable does it?

Accept that you are not a member of an Orthodox religion following Jesus Christ and His real teaching! Your new improved religion is just another cult that will divide, multiply and someday dsappear. I understand it is occurring already! There are even rewrites of the BOM! Why in less than 500 years you may have 61,000 groups like the Protestants do now!

The RCC will be here for the people who want to follow Jesus. That is why He established His church! I pray for the conversion of all sinners daily. I hope that your eyes are opened to the truth and that the lies and falsehoods you were taught become as obvious to you are they are to other people.

Lets pray for one another, You pray that we can find the words necessary to help you see the real truth, and we will pray that you listen to them! The real Jesus loves you, he really does!

The truth should never be taken as an insult. It wasn’t meant that way! As a follower of Jesus Christ I am forced to speak out with the truth. He commanded that we do such!👍

God(s) Bless**

Hi web, 👋

This Thread is flying! Thanks for answering my question back 50 or so posts ago. I knew the answer. I am attempting to educated the Mormons who have their heads cloulded with false hope of Godlyness! They are following Satan and think it is God.

They don’t seem to remember the way Satan tricked Adam and Eve was through PRIDE! They thought could become like God in all things! Who could believe stuff like that?

God is the Creator, He never was created! He created! There is a large distinction. God is one person, not three separate Gods! The RCC is the fulliness of Jesus teachings here on earth!

Remember to pray for them. There are a lot of people in Satan’s clutches who deserve better. Jesus can save them with our prayers!

God Bless!**

Realcatholicgk:
Real, I believe you are right! I was reading the book of Peter tonight, and all that kept coming through my head was the Mormon church. I felt like that was exactly what we were being warned about! I’ve never thought of it in terms of Genisis, but now you mention it, it makes since! Also, it is quite evident that Jesus knew there would be a huge deceitful religion because he kept saying to stay true to your faith!

So, since Joseph Smith taught a plurality of gods, do you consider him a fallen prophet?
One God three persons. You can look at it either way. It is semantics

Do you want to really discuss the trinity? It is nonsense. Tell me what “being” and “nature” is. Tell me. I dare you. I notice you have dropped the DNA issue and now are on to your usual shotgun progression. Next will probably be polygamy. You are so predictible it is actually funny.

He said Joseph didn’t practice it. He said I was reading anti-Mormon websites. Of course he says that anytime I ask a question about his religion. Thanks for hearing me though! 😉
Well, you are here, and this is an anti mormon website. Your husband is right.

Why did all the Mormons end up in Utah?
Because we were persecuted and driven out of everywhere else we went so we had to leave the United States.

Hard to imagine huh? Everyone here is so tolerant, it just makes it hard to believe, huh?

Isn’t that weird how it’s still in their doctrine, but yet they don’t abide by it. I practice everything my faith speaks of!
