Anna, I’d like to know your story of how you ended up in the CoJCoLDS and what made you decide to leave and convert to the anglican church.
I think they should start a new thread and tell us about their experiences.

Anna or Steve, please let us know if you do.
I’d rather not start a new thread.

Here are links for anyone interested in reading about my experience with the Mormon Church. Please sent me a PM if you have any questions, etc. that are not relevant to our current thread. šŸ™‚

Steve,
I remember. I quoted your post in the one I linked. It is truly amazing to me how the Holy Spirit can intervene in such a powerful way to help us discern what is evil and not of God.

Sometimes, we hear God in that ā€œstill small voice.ā€ Other times, as in reading the Book of Mormon, we hear and feel it in both spirit and body. I praise God. He is always faithful to us.

Anna
Amen!

Anna, I went back and read post #89 above. What a great thread that was and I was struck by what you wrote. Regarding the comment below…and I hesitate to ask…can you explain more…I had not heard this…until now. :frighten:
I was never told that the Messiah was a polygamist.
Thanks,

Pork.

There’s really not a lot to tell. When I was in college I was visited by some Mormon missionaries and basically because I felt sorry for them I agreed to accept a copy of the Book of Mormon. Some friends had told me about some of the errors (Jesus being born in Jerusalem, for instance) it contained and so I decided, out of pure curiosity, to peruse it.

When I opened it I had this creepy, skin crawling feeling and started feeling nauseous. I only got through a couple of pages and the bad feelings turned from physical to spiritual. My inner voice told me to put it down and put it down now. It was a definite darkness. You might say I had the opposite experience of what LDS call the ā€œburning in the bosomā€.

Joseph Smith may very well have been visited by spiritual beings, but they were not from above. šŸ™‚
Steve: I had a similar experience. My Lds boss was pouring in on thick re: the glories of mormonism - I worked in this 95% mormon environment for 14 years. I listened to his missionary talk, walked to the doorway & heard a voice without my ears: Pepband Mom, go do your homework" !!! I did and never, ever looked back. I evidently had a ā€œLOCUTIONā€ from either the Trinity or my guardian angel.

All thanks be to GOD! He protected me!!:harp:

Good0 thing it wasn’t an ā€œElectroā€-Locution 😃

I saw an ad on Pandora Radio today for a mormon chat room which is available on the main mormon website.

I went ahead and visited to ask them some questions as well as try my hand at a bit of entry level apologetic’s. I ended up talking to two different people, who were very nice, but every time I go to what I thought was a good question they said they would email me some more information and that they had to go. They also offered to schedule a time to chat more later.

My question is, do you think this is a good use of my (or anyone’s) time, going to their chat service and trying to lead them to the Church? I understand that if you’re not strong in your faith it might not be a good idea, but for those of us who are I mean.

Any insight is appreciated. Also, if you think it is a good idea, maybe include some good questions to ask them as soon as you connect since they don’t seem to want to chat for too long to any one person.

Thanks!
It’s quite fun to mess with those people…
almost as fun as going to the local Jehovah Witness hall with Christmas cards and candy canes

Yeah, its kind of like looking in the fridge and seeing something that you know you should not eat. It just has that look and smell. What I looked at in the Book of Mormon made me gag.

and it came to pass that I read the Book of Mormon. And it came to pass that I was confused by what I read. And It came to pass that I was increasingly confused because it was written in 1820s in the United States by an uneducated man allegedly translating from Reformed Egyptian. And it came to pass that what I read sounded just like the 1500s British English by Scholars translating from Latin and Hebrew. And it came to pass that to make it sound more Biblical, Joseph Smith did decide verily to pepper his book with a plethora of ā€œit came to passā€. And it came to pass that I simply could not take it anymore. And it came to pass that I put down said book and picked up the Bible. And it came to pass that I was comforted by the Bible and did become Catholic. And it came to pass that I passed on becoming Mormon a second time.

wow! lol That’s a lot of ā€œit came to passes.ā€ It’s funny also because I thought the same thing, it’s trying to sound like the bible, but it’s not. Not even close.

Feelings and reactions here to Smith’s words are not ā€˜burning in the bosom.’

Rather, ā€˜where is the nearest EXIT door?!!!’

Here’s more.

. . . .Celsus was a heathen philosopher; and what does he say upon the subject of Christ and his Apostles, and their belief? He says, ā€œThe grand reason why the Gentiles and philosophers of his school persecuted Jesus Christ, was, because he had so many wives; there were Elizabeth, and Mary, and a host of others that followed him.ā€ After Jesus went from the stage of action, the Apostles followed the example of their master. For instance, John the beloved disciple, writes in his second Epistle, ā€œUnto the elect lady and her children, whom I love in the truth.ā€ Again, he says, ā€œHaving many things to write unto you (or communicate), I would not write with paper and ink: but I trust to come unto you, and speak face to face, that our joy may be

full.ā€ Againā€”ā€œThe children of thy elect sister greet thee.ā€ This ancient philosopher says they were both John’s wives. Paul says, ā€œMine answer to them that do examine me is this …
Have we not power to lead about a sister, a wife, as well as other apostles, and as the brethren of the Lord, and Cephas.ā€ He, according to Celsus, had a numerous train of wives.
**The grand reason of the burst of public sentiment in anathemas upon Christ and his disciples, causing his crucifixion, was evidently based upon polygamy, according to the testimony of the philosophers who rose in that age. A belief in the doctrine of a plurality of wives caused the persecution of Jesus and his followers. We might almost think they were ā€œMormons.ā€

. . . .If there were none but Latter-day Saints living in Utah, we should have no occasion to speak upon this subject as we do; but being infested by those ā€œwho profess the pure morality of the religion of Jesus,ā€ such as the Charleston Mercury endorses and eulogizes, we are constrained to speak in great plainness. I will now leave this subject, knowing that he or she that is righteous will be righteous still; and they who are filthy will be filthy still.

I discover that some of the Eastern papers represent me as a great blasphemer, because **I said, in my lecture on Marriage, at our last Conference, that Jesus Christ was married at Cana of Galilee, that Mary, Martha, and others were his wives, and that he begat children. **

All that I have to say in reply to that charge is this—they worship a Savior that is too pure and holy to fulfil the commands of his Father. I worship one that is just pure and holy enough ā€œto fulfil all righteousness;ā€ not only the righteous law of baptism, but the still more righteous and important law ā€œto multiply and replenish the earth.ā€ Startle not at this! **For even the Father himself honored that law by coming down to Mary, without a natural body, and begetting a son; and if Jesus begat children, he only ā€œdid that which he had seen his Father do.ā€. . .

. . . .The Scripture says that He, the Lord, came walking in the Temple, with His train; I do not know who they were, unless His wives and children; but at any rate they filled the Temple, and how many there were who could not get into the Temple I cannot say. This is the account given by Isaiah, whether he told the truth or not I leave everybody to judge for himself… . . .

Pork,
Also, regarding my Post #89, just want to add something about God residing on or near the star or planet Kolob:
Code:
**LDS General Conference, 1962, April, Saturday Afternoon, Spencer W. Kimball**
ā€œAnd the Lord said unto me: These are the governing ones; and the name of the great one is Kolob, because it is near unto me, for I am the Lord thy God; I have set this one to govern all those which belong to the same order as that upon which thou standestā€ (Abr. 3:1-3).

The worlds were created, organized, and made to function by Jesus Christ our Lord, all this at the instance of and under the direction of his Father Elohim, our Heavenly Father. Abraham knew, as we know, that the works of God in all creations were infinite, purposeful, efficient, limitless.

The Lord continues in his revelation to the Prophet, "And there are many kingdoms, for there is no space in which there is no kingdom . . .

ā€œUnto every kingdom is given a lawā€ (see (D&C 88:37-38). He knew the bounds set to heaven, earth, sun, stars, their times, revolutions, laws and glories—which orbs borrow their light from Kolob, the greatest of all the stars (Abr. 3:3,16). He actually tells us about the throne of God and that he resides ā€œon a globe like a sea of glass and fire, [which]—is a great Urim and Thummimā€ (D&C 130:7-8).

He continues in his inspired treatise, ā€œAnd the Lord said unto me, by the Urim and Thummim, that Kolob was after the manner of the Lordā€ (Abr. 3:4), and that one revolution of it was equal to one thousand years on earth.
We quote again, ā€œKolob, signifying the first creation, nearest to the celestial, or the residence of God. First in government, the last pertaining to the measurement of timeā€ (Fac. 2:1).

It’s complicated.

Anna

Anna, thank you for taking the time to post links for us. I can’t begin to imagine how deceived you must have felt and rightfully so.

God Bless!
maltmom,

Glad to do it.

It was a gut-wrenching experience. After realizing the deception and what I had embraced; I was literally on the floor, on my face before God, repenting and thanking Him for rescuing me. I felt like the lost sheep caught in the thicket–pulled out and carried on the shoulders of our Lord Jesus back to the fold.

It’s still very embarrassing to admit that I was pulled into the Mormon deception. My friendship with the Mormon Bishop and his family was a huge factor. It was a particularly vulnerable time in my life, which made me a prime target.

I pray others will not be deceived.

Still working out my salvation in fear and trembling,
Anna

Pepband Mom,
I can’t imagine working in a 95% Mormon environment for 14 years. You definitely needed a guardian angel. God does protect His children.

Thank you, Anna for sharing all of that information. It is scary what they believe! Poor things. I think I better pray for the conversion of those I was once friends with who are or were Mormon when I knew them.

I talked to them once, it was pretty interesting. The fact is, in debate, the only way they can defend their religion’s doctrine is by saying something about how they ā€œfeelā€ it is right. Somehow, feeling seemed to them more reliable than history and logic. I wouldnt waste my time trying to talk with them again

Issa87,

Prayer is powerful; and many cradle Mormons are leaving the LDS church. So, there is hope. šŸ™‚
