My reason for leaving was that I was unwilling to live with the restrictions. Word of Wisdom, etc. And I was sick of living a double life, smoking while under a covenant to not do so, etc. Like Pope Francis says re Celibacy, regardless of whether it’s right, if you promise not to marry then you don’t get married! If you get married then leave the Order that requires celibacy. I wasn’t living up to the covenant so I left it.
Never had problems with living the life of a Mormon. I was very devout and TBM. But I stopped believing in their core and foundational doctrines.

So I knew it was time to leave. I couldnt stay in good conscience and pretend I still believed…So I understand what you are saying about you werent living according to the covenants you made, so you left…

I’ll pray for your discernment process during Holy Week next week. 🙂

God Bless.

And I got kicked off a Mormon blog, Times and Seasons, for telling a Mormon that his disparaging of other viewpoints was an embarassment. I’ve already lasted longer here than I did on Times and Seasons.
You are a rare one. You must feel lonely at times at the local LDS chapel.

Again, Tex, I wonder how many Catholics on this site could say with a straight face that they do not think that your posts about Mormons are rude. Or an embarassment to your community… As I felt when one of my mission companions used to say rude things about Catholics. Come to think of it, he also used to use that “truth” defense. 🤷 That rationalization didn’t impress me then and it does not impress me now.

Again, I ask you, what was the name of this mission president who supposedly told you to be rude to Catholics?

When I was an LDS missionary in the Taiwan Taipei mission, the activity rate was @ 5%. I was transfered into a district where the branch had 374 members on the rolls, but not one person showed up for sacrament meeting - even the branch president and his counselors were no-shows. So we went to visit the branch president to try to re-activate him. He laughed and said “Why should I go to your church? I’m a Buddhist!.”

So when the LDS leadership boasts in General Conference about membership stats and the growth of the LDS church, take it with a large grain of salt.

Paul (formerly LDS, now happily Catholic)

The Church has come right out and said that the LDS church is not even keeping up with the population rate. It’s on the press release website. I think you mistake simple stat numbers for boasting. Everyone knows that the only measure of church growth is new wards and stakes. And those don’t multiply when everyone’s innactive.

You accuse me of being rude. What have I said that is rude?

You have ignored oints I have made, told me I never learned charity or courtesy, accused me of being rude while ignoring the post I made about Mormons trying to kidnap my two children. You accuse me of being rude as a missionary yet ignore that it was what we were taught to say by the LDS Mission President,

I am unsure how I am the rude one while the oly one calling names and always accusing people is you.

Be Blessed

Hi Marie,

I was reacting to 'he will feel the peace’. We know he already has peace. It is living in the presence of God. It is a gift of God.

LDS inc. keeps buying land and building chapels as investments and tax shelters for all that tithe money they take in. In the Philippines, where my wife and I own a home and spend a good deal of time, there are empty LDS chapels everywhere.

Paul, given your horrible experiences with your brother I can’t blame you for being bitter against the church.

But how does building empty LDS-style chapels in the Phillipines work as an “investment”? Who buys them? If it’s that profitable, why isn’t there a whirlwind of empty chapel building? Is Phillipino real estate going a different direction than the real estate market in the rest of the world? Which island in the Phillipines are you speaking of?

Hi Marie,

If someone said the same line about an LDS leader, I don’t know any mormon that would take offense. Such things are often said in LDS church meetings about LDS leaders. Is that statement offensive generally to Catholics, or only to ones who have already don’t like Mormons?

*But the LORD replied, “Is it right for you to be angry?”
Jonah said, “I am right to be angry, even to death.” *

I dont see how telling the truth is rude? As embarassment? No. We need people like him and others to tell people what is really going on in the lds church. Its called Tough Love.

I’m very grateful for your prayers. I really need the discernment right now. 😦

What names have I called anyone? Please identify.

" You accuse me of being rude as a missionary yet ignore that it was what we were taught to say by the LDS Mission President,"

I did not ignore that. I’ve twice asked you for the name of the mission president who you say told you to say that “Catholicism is evil.” If what you say is true, that would be abusive, and it should be looked interested. Please name your mission president.

No missionary forgets the name of his mission president, right?

OK. Apparently at least one Catholic on this site does not find TexasKnight’s statements about Mormons to be an embarassment. I admit I’m wrong. And surprised.

Since TexasKnight finds my statements offensive (misconstruing what I said to be an attack on him rather than a complaint about his style), and since I find TexasKnight’s statements offensive, the best thing we can do for forum peace is to put each other on ignore. There are others here I would enjoy reading and conversing with, and I don’t think that my conversation with TexasKnight is going anywhere. If he ever does name his mission president, 😃 then someone please PM it to me.

Praying for your journey Ezekial, and that you find you spiritual home

No, I remember the names of both my mission presidents. I simply have no desire to drag one of them thru this. At the time, I considered him a great man. He was wrong in what he taught. But I still admired him. I will not give his name. That is out of respect for him.

One has spoken publicly. Others privately. Such is the nature of a board

Since TexasKnight finds my statements offensive (misconstruing what I said to be an attack on him rather than a complaint about his style),

I do not find your statements offensive. I was just humored that you would complain about me being rude while calling me names and attacking me in an effort to dodge the points I made.

and since I find TexasKnight’s statements offensive,

I do not believe you actually find my comments offensive. If the things I have said on this board truly bother you, you would not last a day in the real world. What I have posted thatbothers you are quotes from your leaders. I can’t help that what they say bothers you

the best thing we can do for forum peace is to put each other on ignore.

I will not. I need to be able to correct any misrepresentation you post. But I truly understand you ignoring me. If you cannot defeat me or fool me, then best ignore me.

There are others here I would enjoy reading and conversing with, and I don’t think that my conversation with TexasKnight is going anywhere.

When you refuse to respond to points I make, choosing instead to attack me or my posts, then there is nowhere for the conversation to go.

If he ever does name his mission president, 😃 then someone please PM it to me.

As I stated, out of respect for him, I will not post his name. I hope you understand that. He does not deserve to be discussed and his name bandied about just because he taught the LDS position on Catholics to us

Be blessed in your journey
