Well now we have 2 sides to the story. The thing is from the follow up story we have the LSD leaders (that were not there) telling us it did not happen as frist reported. I tend to believe the Priest in the first report as being closer to the truth (maybe a little over stated ) We do not know what had happened prior to this that may have contributed to the whole scene. I do know from the few LDS missionaries that i have run It is not a pleasant experience. I was stopped on the street by about 6 of them that started telling me how wrong the catholic church was. That the only church that contained the truth was the LDS the problem was that they were blocking my way i had to shove my way through them as they would not let me pass. So My experience tend to lead me to see the story of the the Priest as being closer to what really happened than that by LDS leaders that were not there.
You are overlooking post # 34. It seems pretty clear that they were invited and stood in the back.

In an honest discussion of event that’s all you can do is present both sides, then one makes up their mind as to what appears more reasonable. Many here have seemed to have made up their mind and that’s fine by me.

I didn’t have a problem with the priest wanting them out the door, I believe he was well within his rights to ask, or even demand it. What I thought was over the top was to petition the government to have the church mission kick out of the country, that smacks of a political agenda.

There is a link else where that shows a Protestant individual ranting around the congregation during a Catholic service, should the officiating priest go to the Governor and ask for this person’s church to be kicked of the state. I would be interested in hearing some opinions about this scenario.

WASHINGTON — The Supreme Court declined yesterday to hear arguments on whether the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints should be allowed to limit speech it deems offensive in a park it purchased from Salt Lake City.

The Court’s decision lets stand an October ruling by the 10th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals that said because the church had guaranteed the city pedestrian access through the park at the time of the purchase, free-speech rights along the sidewalks through the plaza must be retained.

I granted that the priest had the right to exercise authority, control, and access to church property. I don’t get your point, no one is asking for people to be thrown out of the city or the park, just asking for a little dignity.

That kind of fits with what the person was saying on the Sophia mission website that this particular “priest is aligned with the Ataka party and was previously involved in the attempt to remove all “outside” religions and “sects” from Burgas.” So there seems to be a pre-existing intolerance behind what happened.

Paul
Oh I dunno, seems to be a disingenuous stance by mormons. The only reason a mormon missionary agrees to go to Mass is that they are doing it as part of proselyting. In the spirit of, I’ll go to Mass if you go to a mormon sacrament meeting. They are proselyting and to act like it is just acting on an invitation with no proselyting motive behind it is lying.

The priest is acting within the laws of Bulgaria. That mormons don’t like the laws because it doesn’t suit their purposes is let-me-cry-a-river-for-you.

As part of their conversion efforts. In effect, making a mockery of what they were observing.

I was ignoring nothing, We still do not know if there had been prior dealing between this Priest and theses LDS members( or others) and we do not know how reliable that Quote was from the “witness”. I for one have experienced first hand the aggressive tactics of LDS missionaries.

Question I would ask. If they were invited why were they standing in the back and not seated with the lady that invited them?

I do not know what happened there and unless you were there you do not either. What I do know from personal experience is it i entirely possible that the Priest over reacted tho the poor behavior of these people.

And that priest priest calls himself a christian. In many orthodox societies, ie, Russia, there is an intolerance toward other faiths by the orthodox church, especially toward the lds and JWs. There is a problem among some orthodox priests in accepting newness.
I am not sure it newness. I think it more that they have a problem with cults that other than the names they use have little to no bases in Scripture.

And the people these missionaries had been talking to may have been individuals who are particularly vulnerable to cult involvement.

A particular weakness of secular atheism, which is what this entire country was living under for decades.

Isn’t this the same point you are trying to make. So what has changed, and how does it relate to the Bulgarian situation.

I know you like to use the words disingenuous and lying almost in the same sentence and what you say may be true, after all that is what they leave home to do, but if there was a “proselyting motive” behind it, it would have been for the person who invited them, not the whole congregation, and certainly not with the intent of disrupting any service.

I can be completely confident in saying no rational north American priest would do such a thing, as also I am sure that the priest in the video handled the real disruption to his service with Christian dignity.

I’m having a hard time trying see the connections, without further comment from you on the point you are trying to make. Are you saying that what the priest and the LDS church did, as far as petitioning of their respective federal governments, amounts to the same thing? - If so, are you suggesting that my statement hypocritical in view of the LDS action? If this is the reasoning behind your links could you explain to us how you came to this conclusion?

I’d like to see a link to the story about evengelical Chritians being arrested on the Mormon plaza. Like the details. Were they protelytizing on a hollowed ground for Mormons? Like I said, i want to read the full details here.

You still need to explain your reasoning.

Let’s see. I said that the priest was well with in his rights and the law to ask or demand not talk to any one on church property, and ask or demand the missionaries leave church property, and in additions I’m going to petition the federal government to try and get you kicked out of the country.

LDS position your welcome on church property, we are going to petition the federal government for the right to insist on the respectful use of speech on our property. The church did not initialize bring this to court it was the civil liberties folks - again different.

So how are these scenarios similar again.
