Oh my goodness, yes! My FIL converted to Catholicism 30 years ago and still gets Mormon visitors at his door.
Our stake president asked us to knock on the door of every member of record. The tough ones were assigned to the bishopric. If they asked that nobody from the ward contact them, then we were to ask them if they would like their names removed from the rolls of the church. Some would say yes, but most said no. So we would continue to annoy them about once every six months.

It was not uncommon to have members threaten to call the police on us if we kept coming to the door. One member even went so far as to greet us at the door with a Glock in his hand.

Fun times!

Unfortunately, my slowness has nothing to do with doctrinal reluctance and everything to do with my spouse’s reaction to the idea of my becoming Catholic.
I appreciate your answers to my questions. I wish you well in dealing with your spouse’s concerns.

If it’s a lie. I have no reason to doubt his testimony.
I have nothing to gain by telling such a story but I will add that this man was actually polite to us and never pointed his gun at us but just held it in his hand hung down by his side. He was just nicely trying to make the point that we were not welcome. No biggie.

I see that this CAF forum is closing. Too bad. It was fun while it lasted. I wish I could share more stories. But I’ll share with you my ex-Mormon testimony.

I know that the first vision was a made up lie. I know it.

I know that Joseph Smith wrote the fictional Book of Mormon.

I know that Joseph Smith was a con man and serial adulterer.

I know that Joseph Smith was a compulsive liar, much like many of today’s Mormon leaders, Jeffrey Holland being one of the worst. And for those interested in understanding Mormons “lying for the Lord” Google Paul H. Dunn and see what great lengths the general authorities go to not only lie to preach their false gospel but also to protect each other.

I know that the Book of Abraham is a lie–and not even a good one.

I know that Russel Nelson is a false prophet.

I know that the whole Mormon religion is a pack of lies.

And with that I’ll bid you all farewell.

How is that “nice”? It’s an implicit threat of deadly force. If you’re just trying to “make the point that you’re not welcome”, what’s wrong with just saying “I’m not interested, please don’t come again. Thanks, have a good one.”

I’m not sure how this thread degraded into a Hate the Mormons frenzy because I think the question is a pretty good one. Every church has its more or less orthodox members, i.e people who more or less strictly adhere to the church’s teachings. The greater question about how a church should accommodate a struggling member is still wide open and not discussed. And what to do about members who are indifferent or insincere? I think the mentions of penance were more to the point.
