Thanks for telling us your personal opinion. I told you what the Mormon Church currently teaches. I say “currently” because I’m sure in a few years it will change its beliefs, just as it always has. For example, the church used to say blacks can’t be priests, but now they can. This doctrinal change would make sense if it was a development of doctrine, that is, a deepening of the understanding of Public Revelation, one doctrine on top of the other, like a ladder reaching up to God and down to man all at once (for God gave the revelation and man’s understanding about is raised) - however, since Mormons see fit to change instead of develope their doctrines, it dose not make sense and sees to be a simple and cunning means to cover up past errors and faults and to be more in tune with the truth.
I think you misunderstand the difference between doctrines and policies. Doctines are eternal principles or laws that never change. Policies can change according to the timing of God’s will.
For example, when Christ was on the earth he commanded his apostles to not preach to the Gentiles, but to only preach and baptize the house of Israel.
Matt 10:5-6 “These twelve Jesus sent forth, and commanded them, saying, Go not into the way of the Gentiles, and into any city of the Samaritans enter ye not:
But go rather to the lost sheep of the house of Israel.”
Then after Christ died, Peter received a revelation that now the gospel should also be taught among the Gentiles.
Acts 10:28 “And he said unto them, Ye know how that it is an unlawful thing for a man that is a Jew to keep company, or come unto one of another nation; but God hath shewed me that I should not call any man common or unclean.”
**The church policy changed **and now the gospel was preached also to the Gentiles. Christ wasn’t pregidice against the Gentiles. He had a purpose. Man’s ways are not God’s ways and we don’t always fully understand why God does certain things. But we trust that He knows best.
In this case it follows that the first will be last and the last will be first. In the last days the Gentiles FIRST receive the gospel – that’s us. We live in the times of the Gentiles. The time will come soon that the times of the Gentiles will be fulfilled and then the gospel will also go to the Jews. This is in fulfillment of prophecy.
God also commanded King David to take multiple wives, as did Abraham, Jacob and others. This was the policy at the time.
2 Samuel 12:7-8 “7 And Nathan said to David, Thou art the man. Thus saith the Lord God of Israel, I anointed thee king over Israel, and I delivered thee out of the hand of Saul;
8 And **I gave thee thy master’s house, and thy master’s wives **into thy bosom, and gave thee the house of Israel and of Judah; and if that had been too little, I would moreover have given unto thee such and such things.”
During the time of Jacob in the Book of Mormon they were commanded to NOT do these things.
Jacob 2:27-28 “Wherefore, my brethren, hear me, and hearken to the word of the Lord: For there shall not any man among you have save it be one wife; and concubines he shall have none;
For I, the Lord God, delight in the chastity of women. And whoredoms are an abomination before me; thus saith the Lord of Hosts.”
The Lord has a purpose for all these things, and will change his policy as needs be. However, the doctrines have never changed. That is why it is called the everlasting gospel.
