The Mass is the perpetual sacrifice that Melchizedek foretold…the perfect sacrifice…

👍 And Malachi also prophesied.

Mal 1.
11 For from the rising of the sun to its setting my name is great among the nations, and in every place incense is offered to my name, and a pure offering; for my name is great among the nations, says the LORD of hosts.

Peace
🙂

Thank you…Christ is the figurehead drawn from the image of the perfect priest in those days of Melchizdek.

The priesthood of Aaron ended with Hebrew apostasy in worshipping the Golden Calf. When Moses came down from Mt Sinai, he then saw that the Jewish people broke all the law in this false worship, and threw the clay tablets down to the ground, for the Law was broken.

When the veil on the tabernacle was torn at Christ’s death, and then the eventual destruction of the Jewish Temple, Christ said He would restore the Temple in 3 days…on His resurrection day…

The New Temple is Jesus Christ. He told the Apostles, "Do this in remembrance of Me…at the beginning of the Last Supper…the new model for divinely inspired worship. Christ instituted His priesthood at the Last Supper. He gave them the power to forgive sin on the evening of the Resurrection before His glorious ascension into heaven.

Pentecost is the beginning of His church. Church practices rapidly came set and generalized.

Yes, yes and yes

Speaking of apostacy : We have learned that it is individual persons who apostatize, not the whole Church which Jesus Christ founded, for according to Scripture, that would be impossible.

2Thessalonians 2:1-3
“Now we beseech you, brethren, by the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, and by our gathering together unto him, that ye be not soon shaken in mind, or be troubled, neither by spirit, nor by word, nor by letter as from us, as that the day of Christ is at hand. Let, no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition;”
Does this verse speak of a falling away of all the faithful of the Church? Man of Perdition ?

Secular dictionaries, and Holy Scripture, both confirm that the term “apostasy” is applied only on an individual basis.

Those who insist that the Catholic Church apostatized in the early centuries of its existence, must explain how an entire Church could apostatize, unless every single member of it agreed to do so, and all apostatized at the same point in time?

If the false charges against the Catholic Church persist, I think it appropriate to ask for the bible verse so, we ask please chapter and verse.?

Here’s some interesting verses :

Did you know that Holy Scripture is very precise in revealing just WHO Antichrist really is?

1.“Dear children, it is the last hour; and as you have heard that Antichrist is coming, so now many antichrists have risen; whereby we know it is the last hour.”
1John 2:18

2.“Who is the liar but he who denies that Jesus is the Christ? He is the antichrist who denies the Father and the Son.”
1John 2:22

3.“And every spirit that severs Jesus, is not of GOD, but is of antichrist of whom you have heard that he is coming, and now is already in the world.”
1John 4:3.

4.“For many deceivers have gone forth into the world who do not confess Jesus as the Christ coming in the flesh. This is the deceiver and the antichrist.”
2John 1:7.

There you have it. Antichrist is mentioned only four times in Scripture and only in two Epistles of Saint John. No mention of Auntie:D in Revelation.

“Oh Well” 🤷

…He told the Apostles, "Do this in remembrance of Me…at the beginning of the Last Supper…the new model for divinely inspired worship…
Pentecost is the beginning of His church.
Kathleen,
“In remembrance”, yes–that is correct.

Pentecost wasn’t the beginning of His church–of course not. His church was in existence while He was on the earth–namely, His followers, His congregation of believers.

:thumbsup:Matt 16:18 And I tell you, you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the powers of death shall not prevail against it.

Do thou in remembrance was the dictate Christ used for the Apostles in forming the new worship…it is directed only to the Apostles…we faithful go to Mass to receive…

The Catholic Church follows in the Jewish tradition as encountering God within community.

The apostasy, as another has said here, are individuals…Martin Luther was definitely an authoritarian personality in his own right, and took it upon himself to remove 7 books of the Bible as well as some epistles…

A quick bounce back to the sacrament of penance…I read a post by Pitcharin in his conversion process…he deliberately went to confession 12 years ago to a scandalous priest. He then went to a virtuous priest and was shocked that they both gave him the same advice and absolution.

Again, another action of consistency, evidence of the movement of the Holy Spirit.

Do you have a link to Pitcharin’s conversion please?

Kathleen, the story sounds interesting but I’m sure you know it doesn’t even start to prove anything about confession
  • sample size of one?
  • are priests trained to follow a forumula or table?

Todd,

I have never broached the clergy on the formation of giving confession. I am sure they follow norms. We are told to pray for the confessor before going in if we have special needs or concerns that need to be addressed.

Yes, the bishops are successors to the apostles and are given the faculty of ordaining clergy.

When you were Catholic, did you ever go to confession?

Miriam, It is on the current thread, ‘can priests forgive sins…’…post 37

Jesus had His followers…many abandoned Him, others did not. Recall His entrance into Jerusalem and where the crowd demanded the release of a criminal and called for the crucifixion of Christ.

Pilate had no religion but knew Christ was without fault.

Most of the apostles hid themselves out of fear. There could be no church until Christ’s mission on earth was completed…then there was the 40 days of spiritual suffering of the apostles and those faithful to Christ…they could do nothing.

It was Pentecost…when the Holy Spirit descended upon the Apostles, Mary and other followers representing the body of the church…Who empowered them and taught them, and Who took away their fear and replaced them with strength and confirmation of faith in Christ.

It has been the Holy Spirit Who has guided the church for 2,000 years, never breaking away from upholding the common unity of believers.

Disclaimer:

Keep in mind when we are speaking to Mormons we are speaking to a group who has for its savior a completely different Jesus, as only the name Jesus is the same. So when one says “He” we really need to be aware that it is not the “He” That we know. That’s why when the LDS make the claim that they are Christians because the name of their church is the Church of Jesus Christ it’s an invalid claim at least to Christians who understand their faith and have made a good honest study of the Mormon Church.

Say we were friends in high school and just met after 10 years and began to speak about our common friend Mark. “Yes I new Mark too, great quarterback, and he married Jill do you remember her? Wait, the Mark I knew was into soccer, he is married to Gail who died of Cancer three years ago.

I tell you this, how could we both continue to speak about Mark even after we find out he is not the same Mark? We could ignore this fact, but the conversation would be insane right?

So here we are, I included speaking about things like Apostasy, the Lords Supper, line of succession, etc… as if we were speaking about the same Jesus that they are speaking about.

We just have to keep this is the back of our mind when conversing with this certain church. We also need to remind them, Catholics as well, (me included) when this gets buried under the conversation we may be having with them.
Just some food for thought

If someone wants to make a true comparison between the Mormon Jesus and the Christian Jesus that would be great.
