I am curious to know what CTR means? I tried searching it but didn’t find what I am looking for. I guess I don’t really know what I am looking for but I am pretty sure it isn’t about communications.

Any help and information you could give me would be great.

Thanks,

ok…but what is the context for that? What is that referring to?

Choose the right

it doesn’t have any context, it is just a reminder for mormons to always do good.

Why would someone give my blatantly Catholic girls CTR rings?

What kind of message are they trying to give?

While I believe Mormonism is a false doctrine promulgated by a corrupt man, I don’t think there is any sinister motive here.

It’s just like the WWJD bracelets.

It appears that it is mostly for LDS children. Why on Earth would someone give these rings to my kids. Is this a new method of trying to convert them?

I am truly confused.

I don’t think there’s any generalized sinister motive here. As another poster noted, the CTR rings are the Mormon equivalent of the WWJD bracelets. Simply a reminder to do the right thing always.

I don’t think you can accurately attribute a “sinister motive” to the giving of such rings in general, rather you could only attribute that motive to an individual (of whom I have no idea what his/her motives were).

Thanks for your (name removed by moderator)ut. I still am not sure why they recieved them. I can tell you I am uncomfortable with the idea of them being given to my kids as a gift.

I don’t believe that the rings were given without an ulterior motive.

I don’t know how old your kids are or who gave them to them but if your kids are younger then they might not realize the CTR if an LDS thing. While CTR implies you are mormon the actual purpose of the ring is just a reminder to do the right thing at all times.

Yeah, well you know the people who gave them to your children and I don’t, so your character analysis of them are likely more accurate than any speculation I could offer.

I will tell you however that growing up Mormon, the CTR rights function secondarily as a means of group identification. If your children wear them, they may be misidentified as Mormons by other Mormons and then quickly fellowshipped for such.

Nothing inherently wrong or evil, but if it bothers you then kindly return them to the giver.

They are proselytizing your children.

Ya…my M-I-L gave them to my girls. I know she hasn’t approved of me since day one since I am Catholic, but my hubby assures me that she loves me just as I am Catholic and all. If that were the case she wouldn’t do things to try to undermine my authority and continually slip in little LDS things all the time.

It sounds like a typical passive aggressive manuevre. Mormon culture does not allow people to be confrontational and direct, so many Mormons are stuck reverting to passive aggressive procedures to make a point (and I know there are plenyt of Mormons out there who acknowledge this as the truth too). Sounds like she’s expressing her annoyance to me.

Ah mother-in-law. That’s a whole different can of worms there, as usually M-I-Ls do EVERYTHING with an ulterior motive. 😉

Depending on where your husband stands on the whole Mormonism issue (I’m assuming he’s a Mormon, or at least a jack Mormon) you might want to not return them. It will be seen as rude and insensitive.

Maybe they can be retired to the same spot that other unwanted gifts go? (You know, the pile of “I’ll wear this when the giver is present” paraphernalia).

Ha ha! I don’t plan on letting my children keep them. I don’t know where I’ll keep them. I knew that they must be an LDS thing, but wasn’t searching the right stuff. I really wish she would just give them a nice generic gift when she feels the need for sending them stuff. A nice ITunes gift card would be fabulous.

Ahhhh wishful thinking. I love my mother-in-law anyway. She is a wonderful woman.
