**1264 **Yet certain temporal consequences of sin remain in the baptized, such as suffering, illness, death, and such frailties inherent in life as weaknesses of character, and so on, as well as an inclination to sin that Tradition calls concupiscence, or metaphorically, “the tinder for sin” (fomes peccati); since concupiscence “is left for us to wrestle with, it cannot harm those who do not consent but manfully resist it by the grace of Jesus Christ.” Indeed, “an athlete is not crowned unless he competes according to the rules.”Such is not the case. No external action is needed for internal consent. Ones internal consent of course is an action too by the way
If I decide to kill my wife…even if I repent before I do it…it is still a mortal sin if chosen with full knowledge and deliberate consent
It seems we are negotiating over what
- “wrestle with”
- “resist”
- “competes according to the rules”
The more serious the sin the higher degree of wrestling, & resisting, and competing for good there will be…true?
If you don’t act on the temptation, how much consent do you give to the temptation?
