According to the Winter Newsletter from the Shrine of the Most Blessed Sacrament, Mother Angelica’s condition has declined to the point where she had to be put on a feeding tube.

Since our last update, Mother Angelica’s condition has
declined, and it became necessary to put her on a feeding tube.
The good part is that she now receives the necessary nutrients
she needs. There were some up and down moments, and
Mother has suffered a great deal these past months. She is
quite a trouper. God has gifted Mother with much suffering
during her life which she has always accepted, living out her
motto “Totus Jesu” - All for Jesus.

Thank you for the update.
May God bless her.
St. Joseph, patron of a peaceful death, please petition Our Lord on behalf of Mother Angelica.
Amen.

God Bless Mother Angelica. I’ll pray the Rosary for her tonight.

God bless her. I have all of her books and DVDs. She was one of the influences in my decision to become Catholic. :signofcross:

Praying for her. I still listen to a tape my mother gave me in the early 1990’s of Mother Angelica praying the rosary. I love it.

I’m sorry, but I just don’t understand this sort of thing. Her life’s journey here on earth is almost ended, why keep her from returning to God? Both my parents refused nutrition in their final days, opting only for liquids and pain medication and they both had a beautiful pain free passing.

I believe they still carry Mother Angelica & the Poor Clares praying the Rosary on EWTN. 🙂

Food and water are ordinary means of care, no matter how they are administered. Look up the Terri Schiavo case for more information.

O Lord Jesus, have mercy on this Your servant who is nearing the end of her earthly days. Amen. 🙂

Lord, have mercy on this foundational servant of our time, Mother Angelica, that her every suffering be accepted in union with your holy Passion, and that holy joy permeate her every fiber. Send angels to comfort her always and to guide any medical staff working with her. Shine your divine light through her for every moment of her life. Draw souls to the eternal banquet through her ministries. Have mercy, Lord. Our Lady, angels, and saints, pray with us. Amen.

Praying for Mother Angelica. She taught me so much and I’ll always be grateful for her. May God bring her to the Heavenly Kingdom soon.

Okay, I can accept that. I don’t mean to be callous about this as I have learned much from Mother Angelica, but at this juncture what is the point? The earthly body ceases to function, but as we all know the soul, the very life force continues on. Out of everyone on the earth, we Christians have the least to fear about moving on and of us Christians for good Mother Angelica the fear should be even less. I was with my mother when she passed and it was a beautiful moving moment, the most natural thing in the world. Sure I miss her, and I mourned her, but where she is now nothing can hurt her and that gives me great solace.

So then the question remains, when do we stop such actions? Would it be somehow wrong for a person paralyzed from the neck down to refuse a breathing machine? Or in this case to stop nutrition which when given only prolongs the inevitable? And I wonder, is this being done in accordance with her wishes?

Catholics may not deny food or hydration.

I would request that those who wish to discuss the morality/advisability of feeding tubes to start a separate thread in the Moral Theology Forum, which would be a more appropriate place. This thread is about Mother Angelica.
