I’m glad I am skipping this movie. I wish they had left the trilogy as is (Last Crusade had a perfect ending with them riding off into the sunset). Plus, with no Sallah (John Ryies Davies) the movie would be boring for me.

Ugh - boring and the crystal skull looked like a plastic prop filled with opalescent cellophane. It was too distracting for me to believe.

I even volunteered to get popcorn during the movie just for a break.

Possibly worth a rental and microwave popcorn, but not full price and full priced popcorn.

This thread reminds me of the discussions on the harry Potter movies-some loved em, some hated em. The only difference is at least no one tells me I am going to burn in hell for seeing the latest Indiana Jones movie.

There are definitely some things I would have done differently if I was a writer or director, but over all, I thoroughly enjoyed it. I feel sorry for people who can’t enjoy these movies for what they are.
I went in knowing that it was a summer movie-which I liken to a roller coaster ride. You don’t analyze it, you don’t dissect it-you just throw your arms up over your head going down that first big hill.

It was a fun movie, just cheesy enough to be an homage to the old serials that my Dad grew up on. From what I understand, both the Raiders and the Star Wars movies were intended to be modern versions of Buck Rogers and the Lone Ranger and all those serialized movies.

It was a boring movie. I find little enjoyment in booooooring.
Now I loved Iron Man. Not boring at all - cheesy, yes, but not boring.

I saw this movie yesterday and it got mixed reviews from my household. Though my son though the movie’s plot was a little far-fetched, I was able to actually enjoy and appreciate it for what it was - and Indy-movie.

Pretty cool action scenes! 👍

indiana jones wasn’t conceived as a trilogy though, it was more like chapters. temple of doom actually happened before ROTLA. originally they were going to make 5. then you have the many early adventures shown in the young indiana jones chronicles (a couple references to that in the new movie) and chapters that were later conceived as comic books and video games.

id like to see a newer more action oriented jones tv show, but lucas has his hands full with the new star wars tv show im sure.

It’s hard to enjoy a movie for what it is when it insults my intelligence.

Crusade was awesome, it was actually thought provoking with a very well written script.

Spoiler alert

I found it hard to entertain the notion that aliens came down to Earth 5000 years ago and taught the Mayans how to farm an irrigate. Not to mention a UFO buried under rock for thousands of years. DUMB!

Oh, and that any human being could survive dropping off 3 water falls that are a billion feet tall. Did anyone see the jagged rocks below? They would have been fish bait. But of course, they escaped unscathed.

Lucas didn’t even try to make the story believable.

Not nearly as plausible as a 500 year old Crusader having possesion of the Holy Grail which just happens to cure gunshot wounds when water is poured from it on said wound.

Did you even see the end of that movie? Because if you did you’d know that all that was explained by the 500 year old crusader.

Are you irritated that I didn’t agree that Crystal Skull was a good movie? I bet you wouldn’t be shooting holes in my post if I had said I liked it like you and your wife did.

I am not irritated at all.My posts to you have been tongue in cheek.

Read your post above-“it was all explained by the 500 year old crusader”. Read it a few times and Ill bet even you will see the humor.

My point was that nearly all movies insult our intelligence. Take Cinderella for instance-why didnt the glass slipper turn back to cloth a midnight like all the other bewitched items did? Ruined the movie for me!😃

Worst Movie Ever.

George Lucas has completely lost his mind. Either that, or he let a seventh grade boy write the script. The stunts were SO ridiculous and so many parts of the movie were unexplained.

I was seriously waiting for Jar Jar Binx to pop out of no where. Or Yoda to come out telling Indy to “use the force” and give him a light saber.

Lucas destroyed this movie like he did the Star Wars prequels.

Ugh. I am so disgusted. I want my $10.50 back.
I kinda feel the same. Not the best movie ever, but not the worst for me. Definitely not the best Indy movie ever. I left kinda feeling like “what just happened?” There were some of the old elements there that I loved, but, way too much sentimental stuff.

I will let Stratus-Rose speak for himself, but in my definition “implausible” would refer to things that make no sense *given the presuppositions of the movie. *It does not refer to things that I do not believe normally happen in the world I live in. (Shucks, I believe in the supernatural, as I think you do as well, so I don’t claim that the supernatural doesn’t happen in the world I live in–but probably not the kind of supernatural described in these movies!) I love fantasy movies and novels and will happily suspend disbelief for all sorts of strange things. But they need to make sense based on the presuppositions of the “secondary world” within which they happen. You seem to be working on the assumption that anything supernatural is by definition irrational, so that any further irrationality is only to be expected. Are you really willing to defend that presupposition?

First explain to me why the glass slipper didn’t turn back into cloth. 🙂

We saw it on Sunday night.

SPOILER ALERT:

I thought it could have gone deeper - I thought there was a good story there, but only the surface of it was being skimmed over.

For example, we have no idea where this woman came from - she wasn’t in any of the previous movies; not even a mention of her - yet, she is the love of Jones’ life? The woman with whom no other woman can compete, try though they might? (re: “They all had the same problem, honey - they weren’t you.”)

Also, the boy seems to come to terms with being Jones’ son a bit too quickly - there should have been some screaming arguments between them, instead of just, “I said that before I knew I was your father. Now I’m saying, go back to school and finish your education.” And the kid just gives a little token protest, and then accepts it? 🤷

I thought the battle between Indy and his father, in The Last Crusade. was a lot more believable.

I also thought that the character of the alien could have been better explored. Instead, he just shows up, eats the Russians for breakfast, and then leaves. This, after giving messages to the other professor that looked like they might be going somewhere interesting.

In summary, I thought the movie stopped short of a lot of good potential.

Well, as someone who has been obsessed with the Indiana Jones movies since childhood and wanted to be Indiana Jones for quite a long time… I thought the movie was great. I was going in with lowered expectations (George Lucas ruined Star Wars, why not Indy?) and I was most pleasantly surprised.

Harrison Ford definitely still has it. He was incredible. You could barely tell that he’s aged. He jumped right back into character and it was him that really made the movie great. All the relationships in the movie played out well, I thought.

The story was definitely creepier than Raiders and Crusade. In that way it was more similar to Temple of Doom. This is undoubtedly because Temple and Kingdom story lines deal with pagan religions that are obsessed with death as opposed to Christianity, which really can’t even be made to be creepy no matter how movie makers try. There are skulls and ancient skeletons everywhere in this one.

I thought the action and the gags were done very well. It was highly reminiscent of Raiders and Crusade. A lot of little things said and done paid direct homage to those movies. Indy’s fear of snakes is exploited hilariously in one scene.

On the whole I thought it was done extremely well. I have no complaints.
