Catholic bashers are about to rejoice. This movie is coming to theaters soon. I expect the movie will be some truth mixes with some lies and some spin. I was wondering if there is a response from the U.S. Bishops (I can dream.), Catholic Answers, Catholic League, or someone which would help separate fact from fiction.

Has anyone seen or heard anything about this film? I just found the trailer on the Apple Trailers webpage. I have a feeling that a film like this is going to blow up pretty big. Nothing makes money like a scandal in the most powerful institution on earth. What should I say (or what are you guys planning on saying to people) when they ask what we have to say regarding a film like this? Or the situation in general? Luckly, I have never been approaced with comments regarding a sex scandal in the church, I have never had to think about what should be said.

Sheesh. Man, the Church hierarchy has really blew in regards to the scandal.

When the Council of Trent opened, one of the cardinals stood up and basically admitted that the whole Reformation and corruption of the church was their fault. I have a feeling that the bishops are going to have to take the blame. In the end it really is their fault.

I’ll leave their judgment to God.
 
Hi all,You cannot leave there judgment to God ,If you do that and not talk about the scandal and ask for those who covered up the abuse, to be thrown out of the church your actions are saying the victims do not matter yours michael

Hello,

What I meant was that final judgement should be left to God. However, those bishops involved in the cover ups deserve all the punishment normally reserved for criminals of this sort.

Lock’em up and throw away the key.

What does that mean? That you arent willing to see them put on trial and go to jail? Of course its all up to God, but they must be made to pay with human justice as well - just like rapists, murders, robbers, etc. Religious dont get free passes in this area as far as I am concerned. In fact they should be treated even more harshly due to the fact of what they swore and oathed to do with their lives. I have a real problem with them hiding behind the confessional in this matter.
 
The movie looks very sad.
Did any of you go to express your opinion?

I will probably say, yes, it happened. And I will probably say that one movie would only scratch the surface of the problem.

I worked with priests who are guilty of this. I remember more than one “emergency faculty meeting” that started; “If any members of the press approach you today…remain silent”

One actually did go to jail. One was relocated after a scandal and actually beagn to rewrite his resume to leave out his last school. Yes, that would be lying.

Philadelphia DA had posted on their home page their entire investigation into the sex abuse by by priests. Over 400 pages. In fact, I linked to it 2 days on another thread. It has vanished! Nope, here it is, slightly hidden.

I don’t recommend reading it unless you really HAVE to know about it. I found it absolutely painful to see priests I knew listed in that document. And to read time and time again, how the same two monsignors were sent out to the complaintant’s family for damage control. They said the same thing every time. First question, “have you talked to a lawyer about this?” You really shouldn’t. Next line, “this priest has NEVER done ANYTHING like this before and we’re going to get him help. Will you do your part and keep it quiet?”

That was more or less the formula with variations from case to case.

I lost one of my heros reading that thing…and confirmed alot of suspicions, too.

So do I, but let me be clear: I have a problem with them, not with confession and how the seal works. There historically have been attempts and continue to be attempts by secular authorities to crack the seal of confession and we should resist such efforts.

I don’t think this movie will be something your average co-worker will ask you about. So don’t sweat.

The only interesting and new thing about this movie is the fact that O’Grady is interviewed. Much of all this stuff has been hashed around and raked over on these forums many times. This docu/movie might be of interest to someone who hasn’t read anything much about the sex abuse scandal and maybe wants to spend a few bucks on a movie ticket …maybe.
I don’t particularly mind if this movie is here…I see it helping to reveal the sickness of homosexuality and boy/man love…even if it is at the expense of the Church…so be it.

Come on now Michaelmac
We all know that most of the abuse in the Church was about male homosexuality and boy/man sex abuse. Just because the makers of this particular movie chose O’Grady as the highlight of the show doesn’t wipe out the predominately male/male sex sins committed.

I hope that the documentary is accurate and not anti-Catholic.
