Still in the top 10 movies being seen the second weekend it has come out. In fact, in our area, more movie theaters are now showing it. Happy Days! So what are you waiting for…go see it today!!

I wish I could remember where I read or heard this, but a couple who had filed for divorce did go to see it. Afterwards they had a heart to heart talk, and decided to try again - they cancelled the divorce on the next business day. And I think they are not the only ones who have had that experience. Is it a movie for those going through separation?
Thanks Viki.I wish I could remember where I read or heard this, but a couple who had filed for divorce did go to see it. We need more movies that show us how to live, instead of how to shoot up gangsters or jump from moving vehicles. The trick is to make it interesting. Some reviewers said this would be a good movie for a couples’ marriage class held in a church, which is a put-down.
This is something that lots of us need. God bless the producers for their efforts, even though they’re not perfect.
Box Office Mojo estimates that the weekend gross for Fireproof is $6.5 million. This puts it at #4 among movies currently showing in the US, and would give an average per theater gross of $7,764 (which is extremely good).

I would say that Fireproof is a success.
Not only are the accents the real mccoy, but my brother is in the movie. He is one of the deputies who volunteered to play one of the deputies in one of the fire scenes. It was refreshing to see a movie without a single curse word, and all those southern accents! And not the kind some Hollywood actor is trying to mimic but the real mccoy. It was filmed in Albany, Ga and I have good friend living there.
^Cool!… my brother is in the movie. He is one of the deputies who volunteered to play one of the deputies in one of the fire scenes … the CIty of Albany donated the use of the fire equipment as well as the fire stations.![]()
Unfortunately, their anti-Catholic sentiments are not in the past. About every 6 months or so, their senior pastor, Michael Catt, incorporates something into his sermons about the Catholic Church. I work security there off duty and I’ve heard him.^Cool!
Note also, that Fireproof has taken in almost 17 million dollars so far at the theaters (the movie only cost 1/2 million dollars to make).
I’d also like to mention that on the RealCatholictv.com forums, I had posted about how much I liked the movie.
But one of their Mods gave it a “thumbs down” (without even having seen the film) claiming that some of the people involved in the movie have at one time or another been anti-Catholic.
I said “Who cares, I’m not judging their past behavior, just the value/content of this one movie. I had SEEN movie, and it is free of any anti-Catholicism and is great!”
It seems that sometimes, the Mods are just as much a problem as they are a help …
This is rather common among uninformed Baptists. It is enlightening to hear Baptist converts on the Journey Home program on EWTN explain the hurdles they had to over come because of the misconceptions held by many Baptist ministers.Unfortunately, their anti-Catholic sentiments are not in the past. I agree with you 100%. I haven’t seen the movie yet but I plan to. Our diocesean newspaper, The Southern Cross, dedicated two full pages to the movie and gave it absolutely glowing reviews. They mentioned about how the pastoral office was contacted by Sherwood and given the opportunity to view the movie back in May because they wanted Catholic support. This is rather common among uninformed Baptists. It certainly does not detract from the message of the film. Although the evangelical style of the Baptist is evident in the film.

I have to agree with you Fireman Frank. I think the moderator it not just monitoring the site but using his position to impose his personal beliefs and opinions. Yes, the moderator is also the Critic, Mr. Simon Rafe and is also married to the very lovely, Lizaanne.^Cool!

It may not effect the content of the movie, but it does effect whether or not I want to support a group that feels the way the they do about my faith. And that effects the content of this one single movie how?
Yup. It doesn’t …
Catholic marriage advocacy leaders touched by ‘Fireproof’It may not effect the content of the movie, but it does effect whether or not I want to support a group that feels the way the they do about my faith.
I was a member of a civic club one time and really enjoyed going to the club for dinner, etc. After my membership lapsed, I found out that the club didn’t allow black members. Now, that didn’t effect me either, but had I known, I would never have joined in the first place. But that’s just me.
I’m not saying it’s not a good movie; everyone who has seen it says it’s wonderful including the pastoral office of my diocese. It’s comments made by the people who made the movie about the Catholic Church on a regular basis that concerns me. That’s all in a nutshell.
