While I totally agree with the message and admire what the filmmakers were trying to do, I thought it was a terrible movie. If I had a wife who was that selfish, I’d be a porno freak as well. I thought it was anti male, too balanced in favor of the wife character, badly acted, and too simplistic.

It seems to me that you could make an interesting movie that was also steeped in morality.

I don’t know about anti male (although you’re probably right about it), but I agree that it was not particularly well done. It fell into the trap of forgetting to show, not tell. As with most Christian movies, there’s an annoying point in the film where you are pretty much lectured about what to do and the trials and challenges of marriage. Never do this in any movie. The action and dialogue interactions are supposed to do this naturally.

Just saw this.

Oh… where do I begin?

Let’s just say, four years ago friends and my sister were begging me to watch this film. I was stubborn, defensive. I said, “I’m not watching any stupid Christian film. It’s sophomoric with horrible acting.”

Yeah. I wish I had. I’ve been divorced and remarried since. (I lived the alternate ending where Catherine divorces her husband to shack up with co-worker Dr. Keller.) The movie was a very emotional experience. I was glad to have seen it. I even bought the dollar “Love Dare” app for my iPhone.

I do think it’s important we support productions like this. As another poster mentioned, yeah, some of these guys are anti-Catholic, but we can’t be the ones to make this divisiveness worse.

I would buy copies of this film and give them out on street corners if I could. Now if we could get more mainstream, Hollywood films with better production values and higher priced actors like this…👍

Honestly, I felt the same way, also. I am a therapist and my husband is a law enforcement officer, and we both thought it was a negative portrayal of marriage in general. Essentially, the wife did little changing and flirted with an affair while the husband had to do the stereotypical ‘romantic’ things to win back the wife. I think movies and messages like this can make a man feel defeated, especially when he DOES try to make his marriage works and the wife is nonresponsive (I’ve seen this played out in therapy…).

But…I know I am in the extreme minority so I have been reluctant to chime in on this movie :o

I hear you. But… to me it was positive that one person seemed to be the catalyst for change. (I’m glad to be taking a break from being a therapist and being a stay-at-home-mom right now!)

I’ve been divorced and it’s hopeful to me that one person could get the ball rolling. You can’t change the other person, we know that. Think of the “Serenity Prayer.” It’s good to be believe that you can work toward change and your partner may follow suit.
