The thing is, with Michael Moore, we will never know what the true facts are. He is know for leaving things out, taking things out of context, and inserting things that have nothing to do with the subject at hand.

His movies are not documentries, they are fiction.
He has been accused of this before, so he regularly lists his sources for his information on his website. Perhaps you could look and see for yourself.

How can looking at his website prove whether he left out interviews that contradicted his thesis? We know this happened in F 9-11. He stopped Republican congressmen and asked them why they hadnt let their kids go to the war. Three of them he stopped had children in Iraq and said how proud they were of them. none of them made the movie.

I was responding to a post that claimed his facts were incorrect, not that things were left out.

I suppose any movie, book, newscast etc could be attacked for leaving things out. If Moore left important things out, I’m sure someone will create their own follow-up documentary. They would have no problem raising the funds to do so. 😉

Here is a choice for anyone who supports Michael Moore’s thesis.

You (or better yet, your child) is in need of a serious operation. Here are your two options:
  1. Care will be given at a randomly chosen hospital in Cuba. Care is restricted to the facilities, medicines, and doctors on hand at that hospital.
  2. Care will be given at a randomly chosen hospital in the US. Care is restricted to the facilities, medicines, and doctors on hand at that hospital.
You choose.

Sounds like a new thread.

But, back in reality, no one would randomly choose either of those.

I would find the best possible surgeon in the area, beg him/her to get my child scheduled ASAP, mortgage my house, liquidate the retirement funds, and probably end up bankrupt within the year. And yes, I have good insurance. With a little luck, they would contribute, too. That’s reality.

But the premise is that the Cuban HC system is better than the US HC system. Since what you describe is possible in the US and would not be possible in Cuba your answer shows you support a market driven solution over a communist/socialist solution when the rubber meets the road.

I haven’t seen the movie, but from what I heard in news reports, read in newpapers, you’re misrepresenting what the premise is.

The premise is that the US healthcase system is seriously flawed and needs reform. That also seems to be what the moderator said.

As for market driven vs socialist; we already have both, they are just out of balance and unchecked. IF insurance companies are intentionally finding ways NOT to pay their share, they are violating their agrrement, and acting fraudulently; and they are getting away with it. I know that is a recurring theme in the movie and has happened to me in real life.

With this movie and his accompanying media blitz Michael Moore is actively campaigning for the US to adopt a communist/socialist healthcare system. He does not want reform of the existing system that has a free market basis, he wants private enterprise completely removed from the system.

This movie is propaganda and part of an organized political campaign to institute communism/socialism in the United States.

I could not agree more.

The fact is … that “Sicko” is a movie. And movies are appeals to the emotions.

If you read the transcript of a movie, there is no substance to it. And if you watch a movie with the sound off, there is also no substance to it … without the sound, a movie becomes an obviously edited piece of spliced make believe. Even so-called documentaries are no more than a bunch of clips spliced together. I have seen “documentaries” made by friends and have been bothered by the deletions that were politically incorrect.

Anyway, we need to educate ourselves as to what movies do.

Here is one thing that you CAN DO AT HOME… watch a movie with the sound off…it’s a real education on movie editing and manipulation.

The first time I did this was on a trans-Atlantic flight when I chose to read instead of watching the movie. The film was “Jaws”. What a hoot … watching Bruce, the mechanical shark, without a sound track. You could see the hinged jaws that gave the special effects people so much trouble.

Wow - commies and everything.

I just thought it was the same working class Irish-American Catholic trying to speak up for the common working man, the same way he started 20 years ago with “Roger and Me” .
He’s not doing anything new, here.

OK, it’s an organized political campaign. I guess all you need to do now is to provide some proof for that statement. You know, links that prove contributions from the communist party, (if we even still have one)…that kind of thing. We can’t as Catholics just toss out accusations like that. Bearing false witness and all that.

I didn’t mean to claim that the Communist Party was behind the campaign. My claim is that the end result of what he advocates is communistic/socialistic economic principles. The point of my question was to point out that if the US were to institute what Michael Moore advocates, we would loose our freedom to make our own healthcare decisions.

Sure the current system may bankrupt the person who requires healthcare beyond their own resources but the alternative is the loss of freedom.

I’ll choose freedom over wealth.

Again, I want to emphasize, our Catholic faith impels us to help others, it does not impel to use the government as the means.

Morre admits that that is exactly what he wants to do.

So the lowest wait time in any Canadian Hosptial was at least 4 times as long as Moores “happy” patients. TThats the point I was making.
no. what the report actually says:
The time spent waiting to be seen by a physician in the ED varied in 2005–2006 by the acuity of patients’ conditions. Overall, for example, 50% of patients triaged as CTAS I were seen by a physician within 6 minutes and 86% were seen within 30 minutes of arriving at the ED. In contrast, the 50% of patients triaged as CTAS IV or V who were seen most quickly waited an hour or less, while 1 in 10 waited three hours or more.
so the shortest wait time was less than 6 minutes. the longer times listed apply to CTAS 4 or 5, which is triage-speak for the equivalent of what indyann and i had when we waited 4 hours in a US emergency room: sore throat, earache, mild stomachache.

Sure did love Michael Moore’s movie, Sicko. Have been a fan of his ever since I saw the movie Corporation.

“The Corporation” is great - everybody should see it, IMO. But I wasn’t aware that M. Moore was involved in it. 🤷

 Yeah I have a lot of respect for a guy who ambush-interviews people, and re-edits old interviews so it looks like the person said something totally different than what they did.

We should definitely all be letting him influence our thinking.😛

From the website of The Corporation: “a film by Mark Achbar, Jennifer Abbott, and Joel Bakan” It’s not a Michael Moore film.
