Another report on the Motu Proprio, and this one is apparently directly from the Pope’s mouth:

wdtprs.com/blog/2007/06/una-voce-reports-conversation-with-holy-father-about-motu-proprio-soon/

The reps of Una Voce were in Rome. They met with… well… read what they reported on their site (emphases mine):

FIUV Meetings in Rome – 200711th/13th June 2007
short preliminary report

Dear Friends,

**Leo Darroch, Monika Rheinschmitt and I have just returned from a visit to Rome.** On Tuesday 12th June We were received in separate meetings by Dario Cardinal Castrillon Hoyos and Mgr Perl of the Pontifical Commission Ecclesia Dei and Archbishop Ranjith of the Congregation of Divine Worship.

**On Wednesday morning 13th June we were at the General Audience of Pope Benedict** and were granted seats on the "Prima Fila" (="first row"). **This gave us the opportunity of having some private words with the Holy Father for a couple of minutes.** Conversations with the Holy Father are confidential but **we can confirm by the words of His Holiness that the Motu Proprio will come soon.**

Both Cardinal Castrillon Hoyos and Archbishop Ranjith were very open and friendly. We gave them some papers about the situation in our countries and said that a great many lay people and priests are waiting patiently, and impatiently, for news from Rome about greater freedom for the traditional liturgy; not only the Mass but all the liturgical books. We gave them each a bound volume of all the public manifestos that have been published around the world in the past few months in support of the Holy Father.

We expressed our regret that some bishops conferences had written to Rome against the forthcoming indult but gave our opinion that they had not consulted anyone about their decisions and, in this matter, they did not speak for their people or for many of their priests. We were urged to pray for the Holy Father and the whole Church in these difficult days.

Best regards
In Christo

It is going to be very interesting to see exactly which bishops fall on each side of this issue.

Actually, that would in fact be interesting if the MP still allows bishops to forbid the Tridentine Mass in their dioceses. That way we would be able to tell the wolves from the sheep.

One of the rumors is there is a mechanism for bishops to exclude it for reason, but it can be appealed. Ecclesia Dei allowed bishops to allow it, while the MP may allow bishops to exclude it.

If there is such a clause I really wonder what kind of “excuses” they will come up with…
If there is such a clause, that is “veddy veddy bad!”

(Please Note: This uploaded content is no longer available.)

Basically speaking, nothing will change. The bishops who don’t like the TLM will prohibit it, and the faithful there should write forceful letters to the bishop scolding them for their insensitivity and non-inclusiveness.

Actually, the way I heard it was that the clause allowed a bishop to prevent an individual TLM Mass for a good reason, but that Ecclesia Dei would be responsible for deciding if the reason was sufficient. In other words, it would be the bishop that would have to appeal to Ecclesia Dei to prevent a TLM. One reason that would NOT be sufficient would be simply not having a priest capable of saying the Mass. In none could be located, Ecclesia Dei would be responsible for working with the parish to find someone capable of saying a TLM Mass.

There is a HUGE difference between prohibiting it and not having a priest available.

All the publicity this MP has generated for the last 2 years should have at least increased the desire of individual priests to say the Traditional Latin Mass, if not the older priests, certainly the new ones. If one can’t find a priest to say the Traditional Latin Mass pretty soon, one can easily conclude that something definitely is wrong with the whole vocational process, at least locally.

Well, I don’t think that finding a priest who can say the Classical Roman Rite Mass will be a problem.

The Institute of Christ the King Sovereign Priest offers classes on it:
institute-christ-king.org/Training.htm

The FSSP vocations are growing. So much they can’t accept everyone that apply!

unavoceca.org/Archives/2003/20030928.html
If you read the last FSSP newsletter you know that they had 128 applications this past year, but were only able to accept 18 young men to begin Priestly formation.
And this is 2003!

I wouldn’t worry. There’s plenty of priests to meet the demand of the Classical Roman Rite.

You’ll pardon me if I remain skeptical.

Besides it matters not WHEN the Motu Proprio happens, but rather what form it takes.

I believe that it’ll do nothing more than flip the (purported) legal status of the Tridentine Mass from forbidden unless expressly permitted to permitted unless expressly forbidden.

There will be some modest increase in Tridentine Masses, probably only in the dioceses of those bishops too apathetic to bother forbidding it. I say nothing of bishops favorable to the Tridentine Mass because there aren’t any. They have had it within their power to allow as many Tridentine Masses as they felt inclined, and you’re lucky to find a diocese that has more than one, while most have interpreted the papal exhortation for “generous application” of the Indult to mean a Mass every first and third Sunday in some obscure (dangerous) urban parish or nusing home chapel (Cleveland diocese for many years) at an inconvenient time (like 3PM). Often it’s at a parish which is financially troubled in order to draw people (and some collection money) into the city from the more affluent suburbs. Or else it’s close to an SSPX center in an attempt to draw the Traditional Catholics away.
Wow Lasz, your perpetual optimism is inspiring 👍
(anyone have a wall I can borrow ?)

Hi!

I tried lloking at the article referenced in the OP, but I could not find it, do any of you have a copy of it that you could post here.🙂

Also, PLEASE forgive my ignorance, I am NEW here;)
But, what is Motu Propio?

Finally, I do not have access to a Latin Mass of any type in my
area at all:o :o I was told once when I asked about it, that “Latin
was Dead” :o :o 😦
Is there anything I can do, and or write to someone to try to
get at least one traditional Tridentine Latin Mass?
Thank you!
Peace!🙂

Wow, this is pretty old news. 🙂

The Motu Proprio was issued on July 7 of 2007.
In it, the Pope stated the TLM was never officially banned, and in fact all priests have the right to say it. The individual priest does not even need the permission of his Bishop.

It is truly one of the most important documents since the Council, the only one that comes close is Humane Vitae.

However, why isn’t it being done all over? Why are there parishes and or cities without any
Latin Masses at all?:o
Peace:)
