We did John Foley’s “For You Are My God” today at my parish, and we haven’t done that in such a long time. I was kind of wary about it because it changes tune in some parts in the verses due to the lyrical format, but the assembly seemed to follow perfectly. I don’t know if my music director plans on using it more often or not.
I think, though, that he implemented Schutte’s “Sing, O Sing” more. We haven’t done that in a while, but it came back. I’m not really a fan of it.
It really was a Schutte-fest today at Mass. Two out of four songs done by hymn today.

Yeah, our contemporary guitar-and-drums group did those Masses. The Mass setting they use is not that good and probably not allowed. I messed up on the psalm because I could not see the notes very well. The celebrant was very tolerant, though.
I used the Gloria from a New Mass for a Congregation and then went with A Community *** from the late Richard Proulx.

I found it odd, though, that “Sing to the Mountains” was done as a Preparation of the Gifts song. It seems more of a processional or recessional.

I’m going to go out on a limb here, but it was probably Mass of Glory. That seems to be a favorite of many contemporary choirs nowadays.

Yes, if you’re ever in western Massachusetts when we have big diocesan Masses, you should come to it! The choir is amazing and the cathedral is beautiful, if I do say so myself.I like your cathedral’s selections more.

Yes, when I was in grade school in the 1970s. I love the Salesians, but, liturgically, their music left a lot to be desired. Lamentably, they’ve regressed considerably. Now, the poor kids are subjected to Spirit and Song, as well as “liturgical” dance.
