I really liked the psalm for this past Sunday as well. At Mass they did it with organ and guitar, and it was really beautiful I thought.

I like his compositions because they are word-for-word. He doesn’t add inclusive language or any repetitions (sometimes he does repeat a word for meter count), but all in all, his compositions are faithful to the Lectionary. I’d definately rather hear his compositions than anything from Mass of Glory.

My favorite Alleluia has to be the Chant Mode VI, though. I heard it twice at two funerals, and it was really nice, but sad in tone. I don’t know, but that’s just me. :o

I am leaving for the airport at 7 a.m. on Thursday for Rome, so I just wanted to say that I’ll remember you all when I am in Rome and Spain for World Youth Day. I’m going to miss CAF! The flight leaves Pittsburgh at 10:25 a.m., and then we enter Washington D.C. at 11:28 a.m. for four hours, and then we leave at 3:25 p.m. and fly to Frankfurt, Germany. We arrive there at 5:20 a.m. Frankfurt time, which would be Friday, and that would only be 11:20 p.m. Thursday my time! I don’t know how I’ll deal with this sleeping pattern. Then we leave Frankfurt at 7:35 a.m. and head for Rome. I believe we get in Rome at about 9:20 a.m., and we leave at 12:10 p.m. on the Assumption and head to Madrid. I’m so excited! We don’t leave Madrid until August 24!

I actually like the ones that the former organist at my previous parish wrote. They were based on modern Gregorian psalm tones and I tend to recycle them. For yesterday’s responsorial psalm, I used his tone along with the verses from the Revised Grail Psalter.

I’m hoping that all that walking will help me lose weight. I gained 10 pounds from my birthday and vacation combined, so I hope this helps. I think that we are doing more walking than eating, so that should be good. 😃

I’ll post pictures in some thread or an album when I get back!
 
Hehe…I just thought that maybe since we’re in Spain, they’ll do the Spanish translation of “Lord, You Have Come.” Haha…just a thought.

The Revised Grail Psalter has been approved and is okay to use in the liturgy, right?

The psalter is called a “liturgical” psalter and it fits with the legitimate options given by the GIRM for the Responsorial Psalm.

He hit the trail easy. I also spend a lot of similar chords in this song. It took me a while to learn good enough for me to play in public, like a year or two.
 
OT, but----

I am just dropping by to say that I arrived in Rome yesterday morning at 9:30 in the morning, and it is really beautiful! We did a Vatican tour yesterday, which means I saw St. Peter’s Basilica, the Sistine Chapel, and the other types of art here in Rome. It’s so beautiful! I also got to see the Trevi Fountain and the Pantheon. Today we toured the Coloseum and the three major basilicas - St. Mary Major, St. John Lateran, and St. Paul. I am so jealous of these here in Rome - their churches are SO beautiful! I love them! I also got to see the tombs of St. Paul and on other person that was a pope (forgot the name :o), but it is just so eye-opening.

Tomorrow we have Mass and a tour in Assisi, so I am sure that that will be beautiful. I’ll try and remember the music line-up, but I think that we get pamphlets or something since I haven’t seen a hymnal in any of the churches that I have visited.

I hope that everyone is doing well!

Somehow, that is not how I read the texts of the readings for this Sunday. It’s more along the lines of God preparing the Gentiles to become a part of the Covenant.

In light of this, here is what I have chosen:

Entrance Processional: Introit from the Simple English Propers
Offertory: How Firm a Foundation
Communion: Antiphon from SEP
At that First Eucharist
Recessional: God Is My Great Desire

Oh, that without a doubt is the primary focus of the OT readings. The funny thing is, the homily went off in a third direction about praying with faith. That too is in the Gospel. I know why this happened. It was a direct application to a current need in the parish and the universality of the Church, the stranger and the foreigner, is already addressed in many ways.

Since it is not a Holy Day of Obligation this year, we aren’t celebrating the Vigil. However, I did make some adjustments for this morning’s Mass:

Entrance Antiphon: SEP
Responsorial Psalm: Verses from the Revised Grail Psalter
Offertory: How Firm a Foundation
Communion: SEP Antiphon (My House is a House of Prayer)
At that First Eucharist
Post-Communion (during 2nd Collection) O Sanctissima
Recessional: Ye Watchers and Ye Holy Ones

We are not going to have any music at the parish Mass tomorrow; however, I am prepared with the Psalm just in case.
