The Today’s Liturgy magazine for Lent-Easter ended today, so the new one begins next Sunday. We are having our music planning meeting tomorrow evening, so I’ll post what we are doing for Trinity Sunday tomorrow.

Adding on to VAC’s inquiry - what is everyone’s plans for Trinity Sunday? I think we’ll probably end up picking one of the well know Trinitarian hymns “All Praise and Glad Thanksgiving” or “O God, Almighty Father”. Maybe we’ll pick “Eternal Father, Strong to Save”, referencing Memorial Day but keeping in mind the central celebration.

Ordinary Time is the hardest season to select music, I think, because it doesn’t really have specific hymns relating to the season. We can always use well-known Easter hymns during the Easter season or Christmas carols during Christmas, but Ordinary Time you actually have to “think”.

I still can’t believe how fast the Easter season has gone. I can remember the Chrism Mass like it was yesterday, and I was thinking, “Well, we have a long time until Pentecost!”

I love “let All Mortal Souls Keep Silence.” I have never heard it sung in the Catholic Church, but I hope to change that in the very near future. :D:D
Great - One of the "goose pimplers…:harp:
Certainly heard, though some variation in the lyrics, during the Advent and Christmas :christmastree1:Seasons in many Catholic Parishes and the song is included in many Catholic Hymnals. After all…St. James has always been a stumbling Block for many a Protestant deviation…😊

Hi Sarabande, Yes, there are quite a few Catholic hymns/songs I’ve not been exposed to. Most all of the masses I have attended have consisted of mostly contemporary music. It has been exposure to this forum and Musica Sacra that has helped me to learn the rich heritage of Catholic hymns that are available. I am trying to blend in some of the hymns as welll as having the choir sing one each week as a Prelude (in harmony). My hope is that in blending in the hymns with the contemporary music the congregation is used to singing, that they will sing along happily and not revolt! Most any hymn or song I have heard about in this forum or Musica Sacra I have researched and some of these forgotten hymns are amazingly beautiful in theme, melody, and lyrics.

My background before crossing the Tiber 4 years ago was Baptist music so I’m delighted to have the rich heritage of all Catholic music to explore. I’m thinking it will take me the rest of this life at least to “catch up.”

I will have to research the Advent/Christmas lyrics for the “goose pimpler”. I will start planning Advent/Christmas music in August so will keep that in mind. I also love Immortal, Invisible, God Only Wise…and ALL the Marian music (that was a wonderful music bonus to learn). Basically, I love the music that SOUNDS Catholic, in reverence, theme, music, and lyrics. I love the idea of our raising our hearts and voices to God with reverence. Oh well, my 2 cents…

I have so much to learn, and so many have been so helpful to answer questions.

“The musical tradition of the universal Church is a treasure of inestimable value, greater even than that of any other art.” {Constitution on the Liturgy- 1963?}👍

:twocents:I think that implies a little less Cow Bell…Perhaps more Cow Bell and fewer decibels from the Electric Bass Guitars and Overwhelming Percussion…😉

Let us pray…

A great hymn - translated and wriiten by Gerard Moultrie an Anglican. It is a shame that that this hymn is more popular in Anglican and Lutherna churches that Catholic ones as it makes a stunning post-communion hymn at any time of year.

DEFINITELY LESS COW BELL!!! :rotfl::rotfl::whacky::whacky:

Hope I don’t think of cow bell Sunday morning! !!!

Some gals in the choir recently said they thought they needed tambourines…changing us over to more sacred (less cow bell) music…is DEFINITELY a process! The trick is to effect this change without their noticing…and withOUT revolt!

Sigh…yes, let us pray – for each other, and often!

I loved Mass today. Our organist pulled out all the stops on the Old Hundredth at the recessional. Such a powerful little hymn!

And why does Hawaii only have two Holy Days? …They are still north of the equator!

Any Hawaiin Music Selections ?
